Help in English needed

On your user page is written you are english native. As I'm not I hope you could explain to me the meaning of the Commons:File renaming#reasons#2? There is written "Change from completely meaningless names into suitable names". What does this "completely meaningless" mean? ...Sicherlich talk 06:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

I think, he refers to this file. I made a rename request, because in my opinion, the old file name was indeed completely meaningless. You should know, that "Cottbus" is simply the name of the city and "Spreewaldbahnhof" means "Spreewald train station", which is the name of that building. Yes, maybe I should have contacted the uploader before that rename request, but as they don't respond most of the times, I gave that up. --Indeedous (talk) 08:53, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
thanks for the update: cottbus is the city where this trainstation is located. and there are examples given to completely meaningless. none of these are even close to your definition of completely meaningless. its just given a bit more information. but to make it this way it should added that its just the building (you dont see the whole trainstation and from which direction aso. .oO ...Sicherlich talk 10:07, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
To draw an analogy, imagine if File:2012 Grand Central Terminal.JPG was named "File:New York.jpg". It isn't completely meaningless; but it is fairly unhelpful. The file name was accurate as far as it went, but it provided no idea what in a decent sized city was being depicted, and was not a skyline or cityscape shot. Courcelles 14:41, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Wrong move

Hello. This was not required. You changed the file extension which puts it now completely out of the system. Please move to the correct requested name (aka OGG -> ogg). Thank you.

Misnamed

Hello,

You've recently changed "File:Ra agung pasangan.1.png" into File:Jawa Ra Agung.png. It seems I left out the "Pasangan" part, it should be "File:Jawa Ra Agung Pasangan", and another file File:Ra agung.png as File:Jawa Ra Agung.png. Could renamed it again? Sorry for the trouble. Header

Good day. I see you deleted File:Me as the High Life Girl on Halloween.jpg. I am not challenging the deletion per se, but I do have a question about with your statement " THis is and always was a copyright violation, per Ticket#2013121910001961" at Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Me_as_the_High_Life_Girl_on_Halloween.jpg. I was the one who uploaded it to Commons. At the time, it was a public photo under a free license on Flickr. The free license was confirmed by the upload bot. I am not able to see the "ticket". Could you tell me what the problem was, and if there was something I should have checked to recognize whatever the problem was at the time? Thanks. Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Your partial renaming my uploaded Taiwanese road signs

Please explain why you would rename my uploaded Taiwanese road signs without asking me first, as well as what "FR2; meaningless" would mean:

I do not insist no name change, but I would really prefer consistent file names, so I ask you. Also, if you know how to convert from PNG to SVG as Amada44 did it to File:TW-Art030.2.svg and asked me about it years ago, I am willing to accept such a conversion, but once again, I would really prefer consistent file names especially for s:zh:道路交通標誌標線號誌設置規則 as the underlying Taiwanese traffic regulation. Thanks.--Jusjih (talk) 05:51, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Correction Needed: Maryam Mirzakhani

Hi, Courcelles. Please correct your deletion request for File:Maryam_Mirzakhani_2014-08-12_18-14.jpg. The source page clearly says, "The texts describing their work is copyright free and can be used in publications. This also applies to the photos of the prize winners below." Thank you in advance. -SusanLesch (talk) 03:37, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Courcelles. Can you remove this photo of mine from the Commons, per the subject's request? I asked Jimmy Wales about this, and he and the Wikipedia information team (info-en@wikimedia.org) told me to ask you, since you closed the last deletion discussion on it. The subject of the photo is very self-conscious about her current appearance, and her Wikipedia article already has a representative portrait of her in its Infobox. I also photographed her and her partner on November 26 to serve as a secondary image in her article, and they both approved that photo, since it's smaller, lower-res and doesn't focus on her. (It was at this meeting that they expressed their concerns to me.) Thank you, and have a happy holiday season! Nightscream (talk) 01:07, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

No one seems to be using the image, so, in light of the above, done. Courcelles 01:50, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Marguerite Van Cook

Hi. Sorry to buy you again, but regarding the Marguerite Van Cook photo, can you tell me when it'll be deleted? You said "done" on November 29, but it's still up. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 19:08, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

LOL. Don't worry about it, buddy. You can't imagine how many times I find myself in a room in my house and am forced to ask, "Now what the hell did I go into this room for again.....?". Happy Holidays. Nightscream (talk) 23:03, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Please, what happened with this deletion request?

Hello,

Please pardon my ignorance since I have very little experience with Commons. I nominated an article for deletion here, and it seems to me that a long time has passed since then. Do you think the nomination has been forgotten, or should I continue to wait for a decision? Thanks in advance for your help. Dontreader (talk) 00:34, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Can you take a look at User_talk:INeverCry#Possible_socks? Looks like we've got some LTA socks from a sockmaster you may be familiar with. I've pinged Krd about it, but an RFCU may be needed. INeverCry 00:17, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

I checked around and found a pretty long list of locked and (now) blocked socks, which I've listed at Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Midnight Marigolds. User:Lord and Lady Tightwad is a name I know from a familiar LTA, in a slightly different spelling, I just can't remember who it was. INeverCry 02:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I was hoping the global lock log would help jog my memory, but it isn't very helpful. If I could jsut find one that SUL'ed to enwp I could check it... Courcelles 03:18, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Here's a likely sock that added a sock-uploaded image to an en.wiki article in November: w:User:I DID NOT VOTE FOR TOM WOLF. i'll look for more. INeverCry 03:33, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
This may be the guy: w:Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Josh Rumage. Same types of names, same old celebs edits, etc. INeverCry 03:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Nice, I found socks there. The users Pretty Little Pouter, Pray for Irene, Gotta Pave Your Own Path, PRAY FOR A CHANGE OF PACE and I DID NOT VOTE FOR TOM WOLF are now blocked. The problem is none of them SUL to Commons (or anywhere else)
Light show looks to be closely connected with this sockmaster: [2], [3], etc. He's blocked indef here. INeverCry 04:11, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Fine. Ok, not entirely sure what I'm supposed to have done that is sooooooo terrible? Yes I was blocked on the main Wikipedia, so I decided I could still quietly contribute on here instead. Which is what I've done. I have cxaused NO PROBLEM HERE, for ANYONE. I have uploaded a total of 5 or 6 paintings all of which have correct permission templates, descriptions etc. Again, I'm confused and a tiny bit annoyed. I thought Wikipedia was supposed to be a group "project" not a site that is almost owned by a small collection of bureaucrats that abuse the power they have? That is not fair. As I said I was happily contributing on here having disrupted no-one then I see this?! What is wrong with people?! Please do not be a moron. As I said you are supposed to be an admin, surely that involves helping others? LPC.

For the love of god.
I did not block you because you are blocked on enwp. You are blocked here on Commons, and you know this. [4]. Evading your block here is not acceptable, so I will be blocking this IP as well. Courcelles 20:50, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
I hope you didn't actually think that was me! I'm not blocked here on commons so I assume not but since you deleted my comments as well I wanted to clarify that. Although accusations, hyperbole and ignoring policy are common on the English Wikipedia, this site is a little more friendly. Reguyla (talk) 21:54, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Reguyla, that is User:LouisPhilippeCharles, who is indefinitely blocked on Commons; I didn't ever think it was you. Courcelles 22:19, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh ok, roger that. I see they are actually globally blocked. A relatively rare punishment indeed. I saw you deleted my comments with theirs and figured it might be another false assumption of disruption I was being accused of. My apologies....and back to my corner. Reguyla (talk) 22:34, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm just trying to improve the project

In case its not clear already, which it seems not to be, I am just trying to improve Wikipedia just like I have been doing for years. You can continue to find excuses to prevent that, but that's all they are, excuses. I am still the same dedicated editor I was before, the only difference is you and a few others won't let me. So, since Wikipedia policy is so irrelevant to you and can be manipulated to suit your goals, I am just going to continue to invoke IAR and keep editing. You can block me and revert my edits if you wish and continue to create a disruption simply for the sake of proving a point, but I will still be editing 10 years from now. I hope you understand how frustrating it is to want to improve the project and have a vocal minority try to bully you out because you think they should have to follow the same rules. It's understandable that you don't agree since the rules don't apply to you and your friends, but its really frustrating and disappointing as the victim. Cheers! Reguyla (talk) 04:30, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

BTW, I saw someone left a message for you on ENWP about adding a link to the username to the last manipulation to keep my ban in place. If you want a couple more accounts or IP's from last month, just let me know. I can also drop by periodically if you don't have anything better to do and let you know about a couple a month to help you keep your checkuser/admin numbers up to date. Take a look at the recent edits of 98.169.229.134, 76.84.218.24 and Mapzahn. I did over 1500 edits last month and I have done about 300 so far this month including the ones for the account you blocked. I have access to literally thousands of IP's and although I would much prefer to edit using my account, I have no intention of stopping contributing regardless of how many times a few editors manipulate policy and change the outcome of unban and unblocks to reban me again or how vigorously you defend those unethical actions. There is no reason to try to make an enemy out of a dedicated editor. Maybe we should work together to build an encyclopedia instead of fighting? Because these bans are not going to be effective when they are only done by manipulating policy and continuously creating disruptions to accuse me of. I am a long term, high output and dedicated editor regardless of the hyperbole and lies and I am not going to let a few people with admin tools and influential friends bully me out of the project I believe in and spent so much time volunteering to build. So you can either accept that and let me edit with my username or I can continue to invoke Ignore all rules and keep editing. It's totally up to you and although I know which one you are going to choose, I wanted to give you the opportunity to do the right thing. Reguyla (talk) 20:19, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm literally begging

Oh my lord. Please just help me. :/

Don't bother begging. Courcelles is the type to enforce even the most abusive of bans and blocks and doesn't think for themselves about what they are enforcing. Even if you did thousands or tens of thousands of useful edits here it wouldn't matter because building an encyclopedia is far less important to them than showing who's in charge around here. If you want to edit just edit and make positive contributions just do it. Don't worry about getting permission fro Courcelles.Reguyla (talk) 12:15, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Contrarily, one of the things I believe in is community sovereignty, and the community of the English Wikipedia has decided you are no longer welcome to contribute there. Enforcing your ban is part of the belief in that concept; administrators and checkusers have a duty to the will of the community they serve, and their clearly expressed will is that you are banned. Now, Reguyla, can we please stop exporting enwp's issues to Commons? LPC, you were (and still are) indefinitely blocked from this project years before I blocked this latest account, so please stop posting here. Courcelles 03:26, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Actually that's not even remotely true and you either don't care to know any better or you do know better and are flat out lying. I will assume the former and not the latter as an attempt at good faith, even though you have given me no reason to assume good faith. A very small group of people, including you and your fellow arbs it seems, do not want me to participate in that project and that's pretty clear to everyone regardless of the validity of the ban. The only way the ban could get implemented was to manipulate policy, so that's what was done in order to get me out. But you don't care about that, because you got the outcome you wanted and you continue to try and turn a dedicated and positive contributor into an enemy, even perpetuating and creating an unnecessary disruption to justify why you are right.
So, instead of do the right thing, which you could have done about three years ago or at any point between now and then, you continue to choose to isolate the policies you want to follow and discard the rest. Anyone who bothers to look can see that it's only through weak justification, manipulation/violation of policy and lies that I was banned at all and that's why I have been so frustrated with the whole situation.
By enforcing only the ban and the policies that were manipulated or violated to get it, you aren't showing you believe in community sovereignty, your showing that you hold Wikipedia's policies and editors who are building the project in contempt. The "community" on three separate occasions unblocked/unbanned me and each time, one or two individuals who did not want that result, changed the outcome in order to keep me banned. But you didn't care about them and did nothing to enforce those policies. You did nothing when a couple people repeatedly submitted ban requests until one stuck; you didn't care that I was blocked to prevent me from commenting in discussions about me; you don't care that a couple people created a disruption on my talk page and then blaming me for it so they could justify revoking my ban review determination; you don't care that my block/ban is not preventative but punitive in violation of policy; you didn't care that WormThatTurned gave me a three strikes agreement and it was revoked on not even one strike; you didn't care that NeilN started forum shopping the second I was unblocked to find others who wanted my ban restored; it doesn't matter to you that the Arbcom has wanted nothing to do with my case since day one, but now wants to be the ones to agree I be allowed to edit and enforce the ban....you didn't care! Because you don't care about policy or the project. So I don't care about what you think!
I am going to continue to ignore the outcome of those few minority of individuals and your blocks and just as you are ignoring the Wikipedia policies you don't care about to help you justify and enforce a ban that you want, I am going to keep editing because Ignore all rules trumps what Courcelles wants...whether you like that or not. As long as you are willing to ontinue to try to make a good editor into a bad one solely to justify using your admin and checkuser tools and because I advocated that admins and arbs should have to follow the rules, then I will continue to give you stuff to do. Because I believe in building an encyclopedia, not your self proclaimed power. Reguyla (talk) 15:49, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry to keep bringing them here Courcelles, but you might have noticed I am currently blocked on ENWP and you will only listen to people who want to ban me and ignore me and others that don't. But since you are an admin here, I will leave you alone because I know you are looking for a reason to block me here as well. Reguyla (talk) 03:06, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm really and truly not. I've never thought of blocking you here -- there is absolutely no reason to, nor have I given you any reason to think I would. Courcelles 04:35, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh please, I am not an idiot, please don't treat me like one. Just like you justify enforcing my ban on ENWP, regardless of how every reasonable person knows that its bullshit and does nothing but harm the project. You and I both know that you could easily make up a reason and block me here, just like on ENWP and no one would lift a finger. Even if they did, you would probably just threaten to block them for usurping your block. Anyway, I'm done, because its impossible to discuss issues with unreasonable people who have their mind made up. I'll just keep evading the ban and improving the project in spite of the few on ENWP who don't want me too including you. I only want to collaborate with people who are trying to improve Wikipedia and there are plenty out there without wasting my time with those who aren't.Reguyla (talk) 04:53, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
