request use of photo[edit]

Here at the American Printing House for the Blind, a not for profit agency, it is our mission to provide educational materials for students with visual impairments and blindness. We are currently developing an atlas for students with partial sight. In the product we need a photo of a Samoan tattoo (male). We found one of yours on Wikipedia.

We noticed that you are the owner of the original image and are now seeking permission from you to use the image in our atlas, Address: Earth. We know is is available for license under the GNU category, but our institution prefers that we get direct permission from the photographer. Because our readers are middle and high schoolers, we may have to put a bathing suit on the figure to meet standard textbook guidelines for that age group. We also seek permission to do that if needed. We like your image because it has the high contrast and clarity needed by students with visual impairments and it is beautiful.

We know your photo is valuable, and we'd love to pay you for it, but have recently experienced a shortfall of nearly 30% in our funding. We are asking you to donate a license for this photo for the life of the atlas (5-10 years) or accept a small donation for it. I promise you our students will receive much educational value from your photo. We will, of course give proper credit to you and print an URL of your choice in close proximity to the photo.

Please consider our request and get back with me when you have determined your answer. If you decide to let us use the photo, we will need a high resolution image.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

Elaine Kitchel Research Scientist American Printing House for the Blind 1839 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40206 (800) 223-1839 ext: 313

Samoan tattoo photo[edit]

It would be great if you could supply a photo of the front side of a Samoan tattoo - the ones available at the moment only show the sides or back.

I need the same thing. Plz if you can contact me in my page --Helmoony (talk) 19:45, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

photo permission[edit]

I am the author of a Sociology textbook, Sociology, A Global Perspective. I am currently working on the 8th edition and am very interested in using your photo in my gender chapter which focuses on American Samoa. I can see it is available for license under GNU but I always like to get permission from the photographer directly if possible. Please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Thanks!

Hello, CloudSurfer!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Front and Back.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Request use of photo[edit]

Dear CloudSurfer,

I'd like to use your fantastic photo https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Traditional_Samoan_Tattoo_-_back.jpg in a forthcoming book on human adornment. To do so it will be necessary to increase the resolution to 300dpi (by decreasing the image size) and converting it to monochrome. I'd like to acknowledge you by name if that is possible. Please contact me at sj.davies@auckland.ac.nz

best wishes
