CA

Hi Aristeas, I need your help. It's been a while since I started learning graphic software like Photoshop with the goal of being able to personally handle the issues in FPC and QIC, but so far I have not been able to take effective action to fix chromatic aberration. For unknown reasons despite hours of effort the output is far worse than the original image. Do you have any ideas about this? --IamMM (talk) 06:46, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi IamMM, that’s a difficult question ;–). I have to think about it. But for now, as a quick answer: It is often really difficult to fix the chromatic aberration. This is a problem not only for you, but also for experienced editors. Chromatic aberrations can have different reasons, there are lateral and longitudinal CAs and CAs caused by aberrations of higher order, and when I try to remove them from a foreign photo (I mean a photo made by someone else with a camera and a lens I don’t know), it is always trial and error for me, too – an approach which works on photo 1 does often not work well on photo 2, etc. Often I have to combine different approaches in a single photo … For example, I would really like to help with your current FP candidate File:Ratargul 785.jpg which is a really good photo besides the CAs, but I am almost sure that this is a very difficult candidate for CA removal. :–(

Maybe we can do the following: I can describe to you in detail what I did to reduce the CAs in some of the previous photos I have edited for CAs. Then you can try to repeat these steps (using the old versions of the same photos) and see if this helps. After that, it may be easier for you to handle other photos. Would this be helpful for you?

Hello again Aristeas, thank you very much for this suggestion and I apologize for the lack of access and delay in reply. Honestly, I have not had any special experience in professional photography and working with graphic software so far, and this has been formed in me under the influence of the passion for participating in Commons. I have been thinking about buying a camera for a while to take a more serious step in this field, but before that I need to get rid of the old Core2 laptop and get a more powerful device. Trying to learn Photoshop and Lightroom is also a far-sighted move for that day. I would not have bothered you if it were not for the rush to save the nomination, but I really did not expect you to get personally involved in this difficult case. I well remember how my desperate efforts to correct the CA level in File: Chłodnia Kominowa Nr 2 EC2.jpg led to nervousness. You are inspiring --IamMM (talk) 21:21, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Church plans

Hallo, da hast du vollkommen recht mit "the handling of “Topic” by File generation description is a mess – we should keep it simple, not do any magic. I will specify the category manually". Statt dieser viel zu komplexen Handhabung ist es wesenlich einfacher mit dem script - das ist leicht einzurichten. Beim Château waren nicht nur das "Topic" inkorrekt, auch das Tool und der Texthinweis. Das script macht recht plausible Voschläge, die nur noch zu prüfen sind. Eine Subkategorie "Floor plans" zu "Church plans" erscheint mir etwas zuviel der Differenzierung; diese Kategorien sollten niemals manuell spezifiziert werden! Hallo sarang, Danke für Deine Nachricht! Ach so: „Floor plans“ sollte keine Unterkategorie zu „Church plans“ sein, vielmehr eine allgemeine Kategorie für Grundrisse; „Church plans“ wäre eher umgekehrt eine Unterkategorie zu „Floor plans“. Ich finde es seltsam, dass wir eine so spezielle Kategorie wie „Church plans“ haben, dass aber die allgemeinere Kategorie „Floor plans“ für Grundrisse aller Art fehlt(e). So ist der erwähnte Plan ja gerade kein Grundriss einer Kirche und gehört also auch nicht in „Church plans“; es ist einfach ein Grundriss, daher wäre die Kategorie „Floor plans“ angemessen, „Church plans“ ist falsch.

Aber ich gebe es auch gerne auf und füge gar nichts Derartiges mehr zu meinen (wenigen) SVG-Dateien hinzu. Warum brauchen wir für SVG so komplizerte Dinge, die nur mit einem Script zu handhaben sind, und verwenden nicht, wie für Fotos auch, einfache Kategorien, die auch von Hand gepflegt werden können? Bei meinen SVG-Kategorisierungen hatte ich keine floor plans entdeckt, aber so einige Grundrisse von Sakralbauten. Da würde ich auch Tempel und Moscheen reinwerfen! Wenn mehr floor plans auftreten werde ich die von dir angelegte Kategorie zu Ehren kommen lassen. Auch umswitchen ist denkbar.
Leider ist diese Vorlage im Laufe der letzten Jahre ausgewuchert, ich bin auch nicht so angetan davon. Sie ist Teil der Bereinigungsbemühungen die sicher recht angebracht sind, angesichts des ebenfalls ausufernden Wirrwarrs in den Dateibeschreibungen... Da ist noch endlos viel zu tun. Doe eigentliche Absicht war anstatt vieler einzelner Bereinigungsschritte, mit jedesmal zurückschreiben, möglist alle / viele Schritte zusammenzufassen und nur einen / wenige updates abzusetzen. Das hat die Vorlage ins Unermessliche anschwellen lassen. Das script macht auch noch vieles ausserhalb der Vorlage, im Stil einer eierlegenden Wollmilchsau. Immerhin wird das Ziel der Bereinigung meist erreicht, und wenn ich nicht Fehler mache i.a. mit einem Update.

Mina de La Zarza-Perrunal

Hi Aristeas. About Zarza (Badajoz) - Mina de tierra blanca.jpg&curid=98974849&diff=639579693&oldid=639340316 your question on this issue, the image represent this, a part of the mine complex. I know the area and the "La Zarza" mine is known for several facilities: Corta de los Silos, Pozo Algaida, Pozo No. 4, La Zarza railway station, etc. That's why I considered giving a more concrete name. An update, Aristeas. Yesterday night I wrote to a es:wiki contact about this image, because I wanted to be 100% sure. He has just answered me. It seems that there is a confusion with another mine with the same name, located some tens of kilometers away (1, 2). As you can see here, it is an open pit mine, with a similar shape (here you have an image of the real La Zarza-Perrunal mine). This contact from es:wiki told me that the error comes from the original uploader of the image. Anyway, I apologize for my own mistake.

Taking all this into account, I think the correct name for the archive would be «La Zarza - Mina de tierra blanca», while the correct category in Commons would be this. CFA1877 (talk) 11:33, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Folklore - Nominierungen für QI?

ich entdecke beim Kategorisieren einiges an sehr schönen Bildern - gibt es irgendeine organisierte Anstrengung, die zu QIs zu machen, oder auch best practices, wie man vorgeht? Z.B., bezüglich der Anfrage bei den Fotografierenden hinsichtlich deren Zustimmung? --Kritzolina (talk) 20:24, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Hallo Kritzolina, vielen Dank für Deine wunderbare Kategorisierungs-Arbeit und für Dein Engagement! Leider gibt es m.W. bei WLF (im Gegensatz zu WLM und WLE) bisher kaum organisierte Anstrengungen zur Auswahl von QIs und FPs. Umgekehrt heißt das: Wenn Du schöne und zugleich technisch solide Bilder findest, nominiere einfach mal einige als QI. (Wenn Du magst, kann ich auch mithelfen -- wenn Du mir ein paar Links zu Bildern gibst, die Deiner Meinung nach für QI in Frage kommen, kann ich auch mitnominieren.) Und falls ein Bild so toll ist, sodass es als FP in Frage kommt, können wir es auch dafür nominieren.

Die Zustimmung der Fotografen brauchen wir nach üblicher Auffassung nicht, es ist auch nicht üblich, diese erst einzuholen. (Es gibt einige wenige Fotograf*innen hier auf Commons, die ausdrücklich nicht möchten, dass ihre Bilde für irgendetwas nominiert werden. Davon ist aber keine*r bei WLF dabei ;–). Ok, dann gucke ich mal. Ich arbeite mich ja gerade durch Malta durch, da waren ein paar sehr schöne Karnevalsbilder, wenn sie durch QI durchkommen, können wir ja wegen FP überlegen. I know that it's not polite to point out that someone was very, very wrong, but there are times I love to do so!

I did a little search, and I could only find three other FPs with 31 support votes: 1, 2 and 3. There are some with 30 S but I could not find any with 32. Perhaps there are more, but it's nevertheless a big win. Congratulations!

On a personal note, I always smile when reading the word "Birnbaum", since that was my best friend's last name in high school. Hello Cart, thank you very much for your kind words! Yes, I confess I was plain wrong here. :–) I was overhelmed by the success of this photo. At least partially that success is definitely due to the elegant crop suggested by you, so thank you again!

It's not at all that I thought people were incapable of appreciating such a photo. It’s just that I’m too cautious or too scared – in order not to be disappointed, I assume from the outset that things won’t work out, and then I’m all the more happy when they do. But you are right to point out how wrong I was! It’s time to change my attitude and be a bit more confident with the photos – then some nominations will fail, but it’s still more successful and also simply more realistic than if I continue to nominate almost none at all out of sheer fearfulness.

Regarding your wish “to see more ‘boring’ photos from your camera”: I would very much like to fulfil this wish, but as you know, it comes down to discovering such simple compositions in reality, and I’m not very good at that (I think). But I will make an effort and keep my eyes open ;–). In any case, the success of this picture shows that it’s worth it.

I am always curious, it's in my nature, so I took the liberty of browsing through your recent uploads. I came away impressed! You can't say you don't have an eye for minimalistic elegant compositions, because I saw plenty. :-) Most of them might be below par when it comes to the technical quality, but I guess that is just because you didn't take the same care when making them as with the more regular photos. But what you see is undeniable. Aaaand I found this! I would nominate that one in a second if I still did such things. Cart, no need to excuse for browsing my recent uploads ;–). (It’s just a pity that they are so few – I rarely find time to edit photos according to my requirements and to upload them.) From time to time I take a look at the last uploads of some users, too, in order to refresh my eyes and to see something different; for example I love your water/ice photos, they are very calming for me.

But alas, as you say I can’t maintain that I don’t have an eye for minimalistic compositions, I have no excuse ;–) anymore and certainly must look out more for them.

Sorry (again) for the long delay with my answer. I wanted to have a closer look at the photo you have mentioned and a variant of it before answering. I love this motif very much and I am happy that you like it, too.

Since I have you on the phone right now ;–), two short questions: the version you have mentioned has the more gentle light, there is also a variant with more dramatic light; I can’t decide between them, which one would you prefer? And: is the crop OK or would you remove a little bit (or add a little bit) at some of the borders?

No need EVER, to apologize for late answers. I do a lot of work on the computer so I'm usually too quick to answer. But there is a saying on English Wikipedia: "There is no deadline on Wikipedia", and the same applies for friendly chattings about photos here. With people on so many occupations and time zones, I'm always surprised if people answer promptly. ;-)

Thanks for the kind comment about the winter photos! I still have a few thousand to go through since the last two winters had very nice photo weather. I will get them done eventually. My most viewed upload right now is not a photo, but a small sketch I made for an article. I sometimes like to fill in "hard-to-illustrate" articles. The amount of views it has got really bowled me over, which is nice. :-) I also feel very proud when I can find good photos for obscure articles, the latest being a crop of Rhododendrites' chipmunk for Cheek pouch.

I like the softer version of you photo better, since I think it goes well with the structure of the old organic wall. Crop is fine and everything, the only thing I would tweak would be to reduce the "white" and "highlights" settings a tiny bit (if you use Lightroom). My example in Dropbox. The thing I like most of all with the photo, is that it's such an unlikely thing to do a moody and artistic photo of. That makes it so very interesting.

The problem is I can never resist a very good photo, no matter who is the photographer. If I see some potential, I tend to get involved. :-) Sometimes this also gets me in trouble. Best, --Cart (talk) 16:46, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

I have dialed down the hightlights a bit (v1.1), although not as strong as in your edit. Somehow I like the bright areas to be bright ;–). And after hesitating (as usual) for a day, doing other work, I have nominated it. I am really keen to know whether the FP regulars will like this photo or not. In any case, thank you very much for emphasizing it! I thought that it was just my personal idiosyncracy to like this photo, and therefore it is really amazing to know that it appeals to you, too ;–).

And yes, please continue (if you can) with your winter photos! They are so calming and relaxing – and beautiful, of course. Here in southern Germany we hardly have a real winter any more – the days when there is snow can be counted on one hand, and then it’s mostly just slush. That’s annyoing, because I really love snow ;–). That’s why I sometimes like to dream myself away to countries where it’s really winter. Hello Agnes, I think I understand now what was the reason; but it is a bit difficult to explain it ;–). The page Commons:Featured pictures/nl is not like a normal Wikipedia page, but it is a rather complex page. It is a translation of the page Commons:Featured pictures — this means that only the translatable text is exchanged, the rest of the page comes from Commons:Featured pictures. And that page is again a complex page: the list of the featured pictures it shows does not come from that page itself, but is included from this page: Commons:Featured pictures, list. Now these complex pages which are translated and include other pages mean much work for the Wikimedia Commons server, and therefore these pages are cached, i.e. the servers stored a complete version of the page Commons:Featured pictures/nl to send it faster to your, and updates that version only from time to time. Therefore your photo was missing: the server had not yet updated Commons:Featured pictures/nl to include the newest version of the list at Commons:Featured pictures, list. That was the reason.

I have told the server to update the page Commons:Featured pictures/nl, and now your photo should appear in that list, right?

If you miss a photo, you can tell the server to update the page! E.g. when you miss a new featured picture on page Commons:Featured pictures/nl, look out for the little pop-up menu “Meer” in the top-right corner of the page, beside the big “Doorzoek Wikimedia Commons” box. Click on that menu “Meer”. From the little pop-up menu which appears now select the entry “Purge”. If you are asked whether to purge the page or not, click “OK” or “Yes”. Now the server updates the page, i.e. it includes the latest version of all included and translated pages. Now your photo should appear. I hope this helps.

Hello Kai3952, I had noticed that you have added a special, perfectly matching category to some photo and just wanted to thank you for that.

Of course, adding the proper categories should be natural for everybody here on Wikimedia Commons, but we have millions of photos and other files which do not have any categories or just very vague ones. I am currently browsing the photos contributed for Wiki Loves Folklore 2022 and it is a mess: Most photos do not have any categories or just very vague ones, and that makes it extremely difficult to find them. Therefore I am very happy about everyone who helps to categorize such photos, and therefore I wanted to thank you. :–)

Oh, God! I am very very much sorry for the photos without add categories. Please forgive my limited ability, there is no way to take care of them. Although Taiwan is only a small island, there are quite a lot of photos. I've spent years categorizing and still haven't finished it. Because Taiwanese users are not interested in this, and some people even hate it. There are everywhere countless photos without categories, and nobody can categorize all (or only a bigger part) of them. I just wanted to thank you for your categorizing, because IMHO every single properly categorized photo is a progress; we will never catch up to get all of them done, but nevertheless each single photo which can be found and handled better thanks to proper categorization makes Wikimedia Commons a bit better. From my experience, even when I spend time trying to explain to Taiwanese users, many of them still don't understand our tasks (especially several users were extremely uncooperative with us who categorize photos), so I may be a troublemaker in their eyes. @Aristeas: Every time I say this, I always feel guilty for feeling my actions like I'm doing something wrong. Since what I do every day is like yours - just to categorize photos, I have no idea why Taiwanese users are so hostile to me. However, the admin told me that the reason I'm blocked on zh.wikipedia is that I'm not cooperating with them. Actually, I am very familiar with Taiwan and I have the ability to done that correctly categorizing photos for each the user from Taiwan, so I have no idea why they accused me of not cooperating with them. And please believe me, really, I did not lie to you. They blocked me on zh.wikipedia just for what happened on Commons. If your thank means I did the right things for you and for other people, how do you explain their claim that I'm not cooperating with them? Hello Aristeas, I'm not sure if this is entirely appropriate, and please do not hesitate to decline if you wish (completely understandable). I tried to clone out the most obvious parts (the white coloured trash) but couldn't without posterising the image. Could you try? Dabei können unter anderem Nationalparks, Naturschutzgebiete, Geotope und Naturdenkmäler fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen. Deshalb laden wir dich ein, auch dieses Jahr wieder mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Seit dem vergangenen Jahr ist der Wettbewerb zweigeteilt, das heißt wir unterscheiden zwischen den beiden Bereichen Landschaft und Detail/Makro. Zu Landschaft zählen auch geschützte Einzelbäume. Im Bereich Detail/Makro werden Pflanzen, Tiere und Pilze bewertet.

Es sind wie immer viele spannende Motive überall in Deutschland zu finden. Neben Naturdenkmälern wie alten Bäumen oder Naturparks im Gebirge und am Meer können Geotope wie Findlinge, Quellen und Aufschlüsse oder FFH-Gebiete fotografiert werden, um sie unter anderem in der Wikipedia zu dokumentieren. Auch im vergangenen Jahr sind zahlreiche neue Listen und Artikel in diesen Bereichen entstanden, für die wir uns über Fotos freuen - zum Beispiel in Bayern Liste der Naturdenkmäler im Landkreis Würzburg oder in Sachsen Liste der Naturdenkmale in Stollberg/Erzgeb.

Als Einstieg für die Suche nach Motiven hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du bei WLE 2022 – Deutschland und unter dieser Anleitung.

In diesem Jahr feiert die FFH-Richtlinie ihren 30. Geburtstag. Aus diesem Grund vergeben wir fünf Sonderpreise für die Fotografen, die die meisten FFH-Gebiete fotografieren.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, vom 1. Mai bis 30. Juni 2022 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Damit bewertest du die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelst so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Juli tagen wird, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Earth 2022 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist bald hier freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Hallo Thomas, jetzt bin ich wirklich gerührt – das klingt so doof, aber ich meine es nicht ironisch, sondern ganz herzlich. Es ist schön, wenn man vermisst wird ;–). Anfang Mai hatte ich „noch etwas anderes zu tun“, und dann ist mir allerhand privates Ungemach dazwischengekommen. Jetzt habe ich mich aber aufgerafft und versuche, wenigstens noch ein paar Fotos zu bearbeiten und hochzuladen. It’s about this photo, right?

Hello Famberhorst, thank you for the question. Sorry for the delay – I had some problems with the filename, but I guess it’s about this photo? :–) Well, you are right that the best gallery is difficult here. In my opinion we can do one of three things:

1. We can treat this as a photo of a disease of the plant (oak). Then the gallery is Commons:Featured_pictures/Plants#Family_:_Fagaceae
2. We can treat this as a photo related to the Aardappelgalwesp. Then the gallery is Commons:Featured_pictures/Animals/Arthropods/Hymenoptera
3. We can say this is a photo of the plant, but “something very special”. Then the gallery is Commons:Featured_pictures/Plants#Others

IMHO this is a good photo and some of the objections (e.g. that the light is boring) are somewhat exaggerated; I wanted to show this with my edited version. – In this case it seems appropriate to me to offer the edited version as an “Alternative version” of the photo, and I have done this now (see the nomination page). Sieger 2021 – Schloss Langenburg

Vergangenes Jahr hat Matthias Süßen mit einer Drohnenaufnahme von Schloss Langenburg im Morgennebel gewonnen. Welcher Fotograf wird dieses Jahr sein Nachfolger?

Nach WLM 2022 sind wieder zahlreiche neue Denkmallisten entstanden – zum Beispiel die Denkmallisten in Cloppenburg oder in Oldenburg.

Wir haben dieses Jahr unter dem Motto „Klein aber Oho“ drei Sonderpreise für Kleindenkmale ausgelobt. Damit sollen Fotos prämiert werden, die die unterschätzten Kleindenkmale wie Grenzsteine oder Bildstöcke zeigen.

Für die Suche nach Motiven gibt es bei Wikipedia zahlreiche Listen und Karten. Als Einstieg hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du auf der Mitmach-Seite.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, ab Anfang September 2022 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Diese bewertet die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelt so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Oktober tagt, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist hier bald freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.

Привіт!

Цього року українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки» пройде з 1 по 31 жовтня — через російське вторгнення в Україну також довелося змінити умови: тільки світлини зроблені до 23 лютого 2022 року включно будуть прийматися в основній частині конкурсу.

В Україні цей конкурс пройде вже водинадцяте. На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. Як і того року — у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» можна отримати 21 бал за фотографії об'єктів, якщо світлин цієї пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено.

Нагадаємо, що всі фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Цього року знову пройде спецномінація «Відео» — для участі робіт у цій спецномінації не потрібно обирати нічого у Завантажувачі — роботи зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

Українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки» вже почалася — за 5 днів фотозмагання Україна вийшла на 12-е місце за кількістю світлин у світі. Не кількістю єдиною, звісно, але гарно було б не надто сильно відстати від російської частини конкурсу, і хоча б потрапити до почесних топ-5.

Цього року вперше у конкурсі є спеціальна номінація «Фотоплівка» — на неї можна подавати скани світлин, зроблених на фотоплівці — мова може йти й про скани самої фотоплівки і скани з віддрукованих знімків із неї. Ця спецномінація покликана мотивувати оцифровувати й ділитися своїми фотоархівами: частина об'єктів уже виглядає дуже відмінно, а частина — більше не існує… Враховуючи сучасну ситуацію із російським вторгненням і можливість потенційної втрати таких фотоархівів, ця спецномінація — актуальна. Врахуйте, що для того, щоб світлина потрапила на спецномінацію, потрібно вибрати відповідне поле у Завантажувачі.

Автори світлин маловідомих пам'яток України зможуть позмагатися за відзнаку від «Україна Інкогніта».

Також уже традиційно пройде спецномінація «Відео» — для участі робіт у цій спецномінації не потрібно обирати нічого у Завантажувачі — роботи зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 October. It will be on all wikis from 27 October (calendar).
• Some wikis will be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. It will be performed on 25 October at 07:00 UTC (targeted wikis) and on 27 October at 7:00 UTC (targeted wikis).
• Starting on Wednesday, a new set of Wikipedias will get "Add a link" (Assamese Wikipedia, Bashkir Wikipedia, Balinese Wikipedia, Bavarian Wikipedia, Samogitian Wikipedia, Bikol Central Wikipedia, Belarusian Wikipedia, Belarusian (Taraškievica) Wikipedia, Bulgarian Wikipedia, Bhojpuri Wikipedia, Bislama Wikipedia, Banjar Wikipedia, Bambara Wikipedia, Bishnupriya Wikipedia, Breton Wikipedia, Bosnian Wikipedia, Buginese Wikipedia, Buryat Wikipedia, Indonesian Wikipedia). This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to more Wikipedias. The communities can configure how this feature works locally. [24]
• Starting on Wednesday October 26, 2022, the list of mentors will be upgraded at wikis where Growth mentorship is available. The mentorship system will continue to work as it does now. The signup process will be replaced, and a new management option will be provided. Also, this change simplifies the creation of mentorship systems at Wikipedias. [25][26][27]
• Pages with titles that start with a lower-case letter according to Unicode 11 will be renamed or deleted. There is a list of affected pages at m:Unicode 11 case map migration. More information can be found at T292552.
• The Vector 2022 skin will become the default across the smallest Wikipedias. Learn more.

• The Reply tool and New Topic tool will soon get a special characters menu. [28]

Auf dieses sind bei einer Recherche gestoßen und fragen nun an, ob wir es für eine eigene Weihnachtskarte nutzen dürfen. Wir, dass ist das Diakonische Werk Dortmund und Lünen, also der evangelische Wohlfahrtsverband hier in unserer Region. Jedes Jahr schicken wir eine kleine, persönliche Karte an Mitarbeitende, Ehrenamtliche, Unterstützer und weitere Menschen, die uns begleiten und uns helfen. Die Karte hätte eine Auflage von etwa 1500 Stück. Gerne schicken wir Ihnen Exemplare zu.

Трохи статистики за результатами чотирьох тижнів конкурсу:

• завантажено понад 11000 світлин, які зображують майже 3700 об’єктів культурної спадщини;

  • з них фотографії 180 пам'яток — вперше подані на конкурс;

• понад 500 світлин подано у спецномінації «Фотоплівка»;
• вже більше 220 учасників та учасниць;

  • з них більше 130 — зареєструвалися вже під час конкурсу.

• On some wikis that use flagged revisions, a new checkbox will be added to Special:Contributions that enables you to see only the pending changes by a user. [44]

• How media is structured in the parser's HTML output will change early next week at group1 wikis (but not Wikimedia Commons or Meta-Wiki). This change improves the accessibility of content, and makes it easier to write related CSS. You may need to update your site-CSS, or userscripts and gadgets. Question from the CPUG Board

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Galerien für featured images - food and drink

Hallo Aristeas,

du bist ja jemand, der sich in dem Bereich der Galerien für FPs auskennt. Deshalb melde ich mich heute wieder einmal bei dir. Mir ist neulich schon aufgefallen, dass eine ganze Reihe von Bildern aus dem Bereich Essen und Trinken unter der ersten Unterkategorie "Brot" aufgetaucht sind, wo sie definitiv nicht hingehörten. Ich habe sie dann manuell richtig zugeordnet. Heute, bzw gestern Nacht wurde dann eines der Bilder von Wiki Loves Food gefeatured und ich habe gesehen, dass es ebenfalls unter Brot eingeordnet wurde, obwohl Ikan bei der Kandidatur eigentlich die Unterkategorie "Food" angegeben hatte. Ich habe es jetzt mal manuell frech unter "Meals" eingeordnet, aber ich fürchte, dass ein Bot hier irgendwie fehlerhaft funktioniert. Gleichzeitig frage ich mich auch, ob die Aufteilung der Unterkategorien hier sinnvoll ist. Magst du dir das alles einmal anschauen? Ja, das sieht leider wirklich nach einem Fehler des FPCBot aus, der sich um das (halb)automatische Einsortieren der frisch zum FP promovierten Bilder kümmert. Den Fehler kenne ich schon, seufz. Wenn der FPCBot den bei der Nominierung angegebenen Abschnitt auf einer Galerie-Seite nicht finden kann, nimmt er die erste <gallery>...</gallery> auf der Seite, die er findet (oder, noch schlimmer, irgendeine …). Daher landen hier also die Bilder unter Bread, weil das die erste <gallery>...</gallery> auf der Seite ist. Aber warum der FPCBot nicht den richtigen Abschnitt findet, ist mir schleierhaft; das kommt immer wieder vor, auch auf anderen Galerie-Seiten, und ich fürchte, es kommt immer öfter vor … Ich habe dem FPCBot schon öfter hinterhergeräumt, aber die Problem auf der Food-Seite waren mir bisher entgangen, daher ist es (wie gesagt) super, dass Du sie gefunden hast.

Leider ist unklar, wer sich um den FPCBot kümmert. Daher putze ich ihm immer manuell hinterher. Darf ich eine ganz unverschämte Bitte aussprechen? Könntest Du eventuell ab und zu einen Blick auf die Food-Seite werfen und falsche „Brot“-Fotos in die richtigen Abschnitte verschieben? Und teile mir auf jeden Fall mit, falls Dir solche Fehler auf anderen FP-Galerie-Seiten auffallen sollten; ich habe eine Liste im Kopf, aber sie ist offensichtlich nicht vollständig …

Hallo ihr beiden, und erstmal danke auch für die Einmischung, die ja vielleicht hilfreiche Folgen hat. Aber da ich weiß, dass sowas oft entweder dauert, oder auch gar nicht klappt .. adoptiere ich mal die Food Seite und guck ab und an auch woanders, ob mir ähnliches auffällt. Und wenn mein manuelles Putzen irgendwie irgendwo mal mehr Probleme macht als beseitigt, lasst es mich auch gerne wissen, dann versuche ich dazuzulernen. @Dschwen: Da Frank Dich bereits angesprochen hat ;–), gestatte ich mir, da mal einzuhaken. Es wäre toll, wenn wir den FPCBot ein bisschen verbessern könnten, denn er macht zumindest in letzter Zeit recht viele ärgerliche Fehler; manche davon sind schwer zu finden und bleiben daher u.U. lange unentdeckt. Ich könnte im neuen Jahr eine geordnete Liste mit Fehlern des Bots samt Beispielen (den betreffenden Edits) zusammenstellen. Vielleicht könnten wir dann zusammen (ich kann auch ein bisschen Python, nur habe ich leider gar keine Erfahrung mit dem MediaWiki-API) nach den betreffenden Stellen im Code suchen und überlegen, was da verbessert werden kann ... • Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 9 January 2023.

Recent changes

• On a user's contributions page, you can filter it for edits with a tag like 'reverted'. Now, you can also filter for all edits that are not tagged like that. This was part of a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [51]
• A new function has been used for gadget developers to add content underneath the title on article pages. This is considered a stable API that should work across all skins. Documentation is available. [52]
• One of our test wikis is now being served from a new infrastructure powered by Kubernetes (read more). More Wikis will switch to this new infrastructure in early 2023. Please test and let us know of any issues. [53]

Problems

• Last week, all wikis had no edit access for 9 minutes. This was caused by a database problem. [54]

Changes later this week

• There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
• The word "Reply" is very short in some languages, such as Arabic ("ردّ"). This makes the Discussion tools button on talk pages difficult to use. An arrow icon will be added to those languages. This will only be visible to editors who have the Beta Feature turned on. [55] [56]

Future changes

• Edits can be automatically "tagged" by the system software or the Abuse filter management system. Those tags link to a help page about the tags. Soon they will also link to Recent Changes to let you see other edits tagged this way. This was a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [57]
• The Trust & Safety tools team have shared new plans for building the Private Incident Reporting System. The system will make it easier for editors to ask for help if they are harassed or abused.
• Realtime Preview for Wikitext is coming out of beta as an enabled feature for every user of the 2010 Wikitext editor in the week of January 9, 2023. It will be available to use via the toolbar in the 2010 Wikitext editor. The feature was the 4th most popular wish of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.

• You can now register for the Wikimedia Hackathon 2023, taking place on May 19–21 in Athens, Greece. You can also apply for a scholarship until January 14th.

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. Hello C messier, that’s a good question. Coming from Germany the kourabie seem more familiar to me (they are quite similar to some typical German Christmas sweets), but on the other hand this makes the melomakarano even more interesting for me because they appear “more Greek” to me ;–).
