First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hallo AltSylt. Ganz herzlichen Dank für die Ordnung die du geschaffen hast in Category:Germany on photochrome prints. Ich hatte da begonnen aber war noch lange nicht fertig. Unterdessen wurden wieder tausende photochrome Bilder aufgeladen die alle nicht kategorisiert sind. Vielleich könntest du die Deutschen heraus picken? Wäre eine grosse Tat! Ich hatte vor einem und ein halb Jahr alle photochrome Bilder nach Nationen geordnet, und dann nach Städte. Jetzt müsste man wieder dasselbe machen. Ich sehe unterdessen dass Fae begonnen hat sie wenigstens nach Nationen zu unterteilen; es fehlen aber noch viele, und besonders alle Ortschaften, in denen jedes Bild kategorisiert werden muss. Gern. Macht Spaß die Bilder zu sortieren. Ich kenn nicht alle Orte und Städte, kanns aber gern weiterhin in die Bundesländer verschieben. Da sollen dann Leute von vor weiter nach Ort sortieren. --AltSylt (talk) 18:18, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ich weiss nicht warum Fae immer neue Kategorien öffnet anstatt die zu brauchen die es schon gibt... Mit der Zeit wird die ganze Cat Photochrome unübersichtlich mit all diesen parallelen Cats die wirklich nicht viel anders sind. Diese 19th century cat sollte einfach in der schon existierende cat hinzugefügt werden. Das denke ich. --DenghiùComm (talk) 19:29, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Im Moment erscheint sie mir so als Containerkategorie ganz hilfreich, weil das wohl alles Uploads aus einer Reihe sind. Evtl. kann man irgendwo eine Containerkategorie für alle diese bilder behalten... Kategorie Teerhof (Hamburg)[edit]

Moin! Nur als kleine Info: ich hate die Bezeichnung "Kontorhaus Teerhof" gewählt, um keine Verwechslung mit der gleichnamigen Straße unmittelbar vor dem Gebäude aufkommen zu lassen. Schlußendlich ist das aber auch irgendwie egal, da es an der Straße genau nur ein Gebäude gibt, nämlich das abgebildete. Aber vielleicht sollte man das noch in der Kategoriebeschreibung ergänzen? Kategorie Deichtortunnel[edit]

Hallo AltSylt, ich hätte da eine Frage zu einer etwas zurückliegenden Änderung von Dir: Ich würde gerne Deine Weiterleitung der Kategorie Deichtortunnel auf die Kategorie Wallringtunnel rückgängig machen, da Deichtor- und Wallringtunnel zwei unterschiedliche Bauwerke sind, die m. Wallring[edit]

ein verwandtes thema was mich neulich beschäftigte, ist der "en:Wallring" bzw. der "de:Ring 1 (plus Wallanlagen)". Hier gibt es nur den Ring 1 (was etwas schade ist), wobei er auch in category:streets in Hamburg by name einsortiert ist, obwohl Ring 1 offensichtlich kein Straßennname, sondern nur eine für verkehrstech.
