File:Watson bay 04.JPG do you know where this is ?[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to work out where this is, the photo is just labelled Watsons Bay - have you seen it ? Steel Point Battery ? Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 07:53, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This gun is located outside the Navy base in Watsons Bay Overlooking Camp Cove. I don't now much about its history but it may have been part of the Navel base at some stage. This is not signal hill battery or steel point Battery but it may have been once linked to a tunnel network that goes beneath the BaseAdam.J.W.C. (talk) 07:56, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. There are photos of 2 different guns there in the wiki Watsons Bay category... they look like RML 9 inch 12 ton guns to me... my records state there were 2 at South Head from 1876. Does that make sense to you ? thanks. Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 08:26, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just had a look at the two different pictures. I would say that they are of the same gun. One of the photos was taken before it was restored and the other after, they were also taken from different angles. I am not sure about the history of these 12 ton guns at Watsons bay though and there is a chance that these were put there for show. Adam.J.W.C. (talk) 06:34, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam, We are an Adelaide based design studio looking to use hi-resolution images like this File:Stadium Australia, New South Wales.jpg for one of our clients. reverted File:Botanybaybicentennialmonument.JPG[edit]

I reverted one of you uploads due to the fact that you uploaded over somebody else's photo. You should know better than to do this as you have pointed this out to me in the past. Also I drive past this location nearly every day and I plan on taking some better photos of this and a few others. Would you prefer a picture of the monument (cannons included) with the subject in focus and a blurred background or everything in focus. I would also like to try my hand at photographing the greek monument. If you have any objections please let me know Adam.J.W.C. (talk) 22:20, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I probably shouldn't have uploaded on someone else's image but in this case the old photo was quite poor and overshadowed. I didn't think there was a real need for having two, so similar, photos in wikimedia. It's the only time I've done it because I thought replacing it would be easier than to upload a new photo and replace it in all the articles in wikipedia. Thanks for pointing it out. Consider myself chastised by you.
Also, I have never had any objections with editors replacing photos in wikipedia articles with improved photos. I have only had objections to editors and deceptive sockpuppets, who delete photos from articles and do not replace them with quality ones. If you genuinely want to take some better shots of these monuments, then I think having both the foreground and background in focus is usually better. J Bar (talk) 06:23, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then. If we are going to have mediation when my block is lifted then perhaps you could bring this up. I will propose that I do not delete photos but replace them with better ones. I plan on working my way across the entire Sydney suburban area. Adam.J.W.C. (talk) 07:37, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's what you should have done in the first place. Creating sockpuppets to back up your own agenda and edits was not a smart way to make friends and influence people on wikipedia. It's not like you haven't been warned and blocked before. I know you've done some brilliant work with photos and wikipedia but what you did as PoorPhotoRemovalist was extremely deceitful and difficult to forgive. How de we know that the other editors that have given us grief over the years are not also your sockpuppets? How can you be trusted again? If your block is lifted, I hope you actually are more respectful to other editors. We're all just trying to make the articles better on wikipedia. J Bar (talk) 04:02, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Bucker Battery gun[edit]

Hello Adam, where did you find the photo of the 9.2 inch disappearing gun at the Ben Buckler Battery ? I assume it dates from the 1890s ? regards, Rod Rcbutcher (talk) 22:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gday. I found the image in this website [1]. Also there is a modern day pic of the same gun at the bottom of this page [2]. I am trying to find out if I can use some of the pictures from this sight in the article. Regards Adam.J.W.C. (talk) 01:07, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The photograph at the bottom of the Heritage NSW page is of a different gun, now restored, which was at Signal Hill. As far as I know the Ben Buckler gun is still unrestored... and possibly still buried ??? Rcbutcher (talk) 20:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for Image:Corner Booth and Johnston Streets, Annandale, NSW 1955.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Corner Booth and Johnston Streets, Annandale, NSW 1955.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the help desk or me at my talkpage. Thank you. Also I notice that you claim the photo is from 2010, while the caption on en:Wikipedia describes it as being from 1955. Could you please straighten this out? Thanks! Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 00:37, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the flickr address from where I got the photo. Hopefully no 2 on the PD AUS tag covers this as the photo is watermarked with Leichhardt Council Gallery collection. This council is a local government. The tag on the image says 'owned by a government', older than 50 years. Hopefully this is enough to keep the image Adam.J.W.C. 14:19, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Comments Not currently at required resolution. --99of9 06:51, 17 July 2010 (UTC) Support Nice image. For a QI absolutely okey. Alofok 10:56, 17 July 2010 (UTC) Sorry Alofok you are wrong. Even this pic is nice, or technically sufficient, it does not meet the size requirements. It CANNOT be a QI. Please read the guideline for QIC.--Jebulon 20:07, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong Jebulon. The size requirements are not that strictly as you are telling. It is legitim to promote below 2MP-images as well. --High Contrast 22:21, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Inadequate size (1,377 × 768 pixels)--Lmbuga 00:06, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since the only objection was size, I'm going to promote the new version. Well done. --King of Hearts 02:53, 18 July 2010 (UTC). Anyway, this pic is good and a quality image. But was not absolutely okey, as said above.--Jebulon 10:00, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Dover Heights from Watson's Bay Photo -[edit]

HI Adam:

Your photos are stunning and your contributions great. I am also a new cave clan member and really like your photos on the urban underground.

I live in Dover Heights and am active in the precinct and love exploring the area. I believe you have mislabeled your photos of Dover Heights as the photo is actually of Diamond Bay and the vantage point is not Watson's Bay but rather the North end of Diamond Bay. Watson's Bay is considerably further North from where your excellent photos were taken. While Dover Heights in the the background of the photo, it really should be labeled Diamond Bay which if really what the photo is showing. Diamond Bay is just North of Dover Heights but not really a part of Dover Heights suburb or Dover Heights Precinct. Diamond Bay is a section of the Vaucluse Precinct of Hunter Ward of Waverley Council and is a small area that is different and distinct from Dover Heights. The suburb of Dover Heights ends on the North end at Oceanview Ave which is just south of Diamond Bay. See Google Maps for a better view. Thanks so much for your reply.

Sincerely

Dov Frazer

Thanks that's exactly what I thought but wasn't to sure, I'll fix it when I get the chance Adam.J.W.C. 22:40, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes the photo was taken in Vaucluse from Chris Bang Crescent looking out to Vaucluse with Dover Heights in view a bit further back. Adam.J.W.C. 23:01, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

File naming[edit]

Hi Adam, and thanks for uploading so many good quality pictures. I was about to nominate for QI this file, however I believe the file needs to be renamed first per Commons:File renaming point 7. Also the file description needs to follow Commons' Neutral point of view policy. Note that Asylum seekers are not illegal -even if treated so- until their status is determined. Note that in the media they are referred to as detainees or asylum seekers. As you will be surely aware, Australia's current detention regime itself is considered by the UN in breach of international law. Therefore I would kindly ask you to rename the file to one which reflects a neutral point of view. Thanks. --ELEKHHT 23:22, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks, I will look into this within a few moments Adam.J.W.C. 23:38, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. I have also given you rollback and filemover rights. Bidgee (talk) 01:37, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Adam.J.W.C.!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hawkesbury River images[edit]

Hi, in 2007 you took a few photos of Hawkesbury River, namely File:2007 0817klklk0035.JPG and File:2007 0817klklk0030.JPG. The description on the photos is a little vague. I'm trying to improve the page for the River. If you're able to recall, would you please advise the location where these photos were taken and the direction facing (e.g. at Brooklyn, facing east, etc.)? Many thanks for your help - and please keep up the great photography. Cheers Rangasyd (talk) 12:26, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The first image File:2007 0817klklk0035.JPG was taken from S 33.53896 E 151.23123 looking North-East, on the right hand side of the image you can see a small portion of Dangar Island. File:2007 0817klklk0030.JPG was taken looking south-east from the Brooklyn area, I cannot remember the exact location though. Hope this helps. Also the coords on the Wikipedia article lead to the middle of the ocean and need to be adjusted, I'll have a look at it but haven't done it for a while. Cheers Adam.J.W.C. 07:18, 31 December 2012 (UTC).

Thanks for uploading File:Bankstown town hall 1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Thanks for uploading File:Sydney Opera House, vivid Sydey.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it. If you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 16:11, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Photo use for book[edit]

Hi Adam, I'm working on a book and was possibly going to use your photo on the former quarry at Olympic Park Sydney. Do you remember what year that was taken? The chapter is on an incident that happened in 1996 so I needed to know if that photo was taken around that time. You can contact me at cherylca@bigpond.net.au if you are able to help. I'd also love to know if you have any other photos of that area from that period. I can give you more details about the book if needed as well. Thanks for your time. Cheryl Critchley

File renaming[edit]

Hi, Adam.J.W.C., this file should be renamed because of #2. Since you were the uploader, your help would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Lotje 16:37, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming[edit]

Hello! I just renamed one of your files: File:Australia Stadium.jpg. There was a double dot in the name. Hopefully you'll agree. --XRay talk 07:23, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
