Your DRs

Hi, Please do not create deletion requests when the elements with a copyright are simple or de minimis. Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:06, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

@Yann: I have no idea for which nomination you are talking about. But if it was about the election posters which are the subject, as the file that you deleted: subject is copyrighted and can not be de minimis. Else, I need to see.
acagastya 13:12, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
I am talking about Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mairie Pont Ain 2.jpg, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Monument aux morts Aranc 01.jpg, and others of the same. Even this should be OK. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:23, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
@Yann: for the second nomination that you have linked, though not the main subject, it may not be main subject, but it is copyrighted covering lot of portion in the photo. I am not sure how it works here, but do we include open sky in these cases? And I think it is not de minimis, you don't think it is — since it is subjective, on-or-of wiki discussion is needed.
acagastya 13:31, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
At the very least, you need to mention what is the issue, which you didn't here. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:35, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
@Yann: I just said that: though not the main subject, it (the copyrighted architecture) covers lot of area in the photo.
acagastya 13:38, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
No. You need to mention if the issue is the posters, the monument, or the building. I suggest that you read a bit more about Commons policies, and current requests and the answers, before creating new DRs. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:09, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum, 2017

Hi , I took this picture (ballot papper) really , I wait your answer Kurdistantolive (talk)
@Kurdistantolive: then why is the EXIF data missing? And why are you using a screenshot? I am pretty sure that is not how OTRS works.
acagastya 22:22, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
I was in wekipedia 11 years , I hope you understand this , I know wekipedia

but really this picture from me , just trust me --Kurdistantolive (talk) 22:28, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are two different things. For instance, Wikipedia permits fair use media, Wikimedia does not. As far as trusting is concerned, without OTRS, I do not thing this can be allowed.
acagastya 22:35, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

I know different but I mean 11 years here wikimedia and wikipedia in arabic ,swedish and english really

Just you trust me --Kurdistantolive (talk) 22:40, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
You know, licensing and/or OTRS does not work like that.
acagastya 22:42, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
DO you have viber i want speak with you and show you some things --Kurdistantolive (talk) 22:44, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
then it should not be difficult for OTRS check. But in any case, the photo must abide the FoP rules. COM:FOP#Iraq.
acagastya 04:48, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

You must believe me , I am serious really, my photo Kurdistantolive (talk) 12:45, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Okay. It should be no problem to prove it then, no?
acagastya 13:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Please do not reopen this. It was discussed long enough, and the issue is settled. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:19, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

I see you changed the licensing from "Artistic License" to public domain. How does the Duck drawing not help the logo meet threshold of originality? One can look at File:DuckDuckGo logo no text.svg and see that it's already original enough to obtain copyright protection. Am I missing something or what? George Ho (talk) 01:01, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@George Ho: what you may be missing is that it is too simple to be copyrighted. It is below ToO.
acagastya 12:25, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the copyright holder emailed them, claiming copyright to the logo. George Ho (talk) 16:56, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
@George Ho: when something is too simple to be copyrightable, what the author says is of no point. Consider the logo of Internazionale, for example. The website and its content is under a non commercial CC licence, but since the logo is simple geometric shapes and text, the entire thing is PD-geometry plus PD-text.
acagastya 12:37, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
I still disagree; the shapes aren't that simple enough. How does the duck's beak be a simple shape or something? Maybe one of us can ask at COM:VPCOPY about the logo. BTW, do you mean "Inter Milan" when you said "Internazionale"? George Ho (talk) 13:01, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
@George Ho: Inter Milan's real name is "Football Club Internazionale Milano". The beak is freaking simple. Also, I had already discussed that with User:Yann. Feel free to confirm that.
acagastya 18:08, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi, George Ho is right, this is not PD-shape. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:39, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
Just for an update, the logo is deleted per ticket:201812311000463. George Ho (talk) 21:33, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Love help needed

Hello Acagastya, You endorsed the Wiki Loves Love photo contest on Meta. This photo contest starts on 1 February. To be able to make the photo contest more accessible and available to more people in the world, it needs translations of the upload wizard, templates and pages to your local language. Please help us! Go to Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2019/Translations to see how needs to be translated. (In some languages there are maybe already some translations available.) Thanks in advance!! For the international Wiki Loves Love organising team - Romaine (talk) 17:42, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Congratulations, dear license reviewer

If you use the helper scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Acagastya, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Majora/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! 1989 (talk) 22:43, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

@1989: thank you for letting me know. And thank you for the suggestion of helper scripts. I shall add it after I have completely woken up.

Congratulations! Acagastya. Kind regards, — TBhagat (contribs | talk) 05:29, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
I don't know why you're doing it, but you really don't have to re-review files that have already been reviewed by File upload bot or FlickreviewR (2). In fact, it's better not to. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:49, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
I thought Flickr Review bot's review was to be replaced by human's, Alexis Jazz. I won't do it. Learnt something new today.

Librivox - Hermann Hesse

Hi, while the Kafka work was likely o.k., I don't think that litery works by H. Hesse are o.k., as he died only in 1962, whereby his works are copyrighted til end of 2032. Due to the inconsistency of U.S. copyright, some works might be pd in the U.S., depending on publication date, but for the rest of the world, thery are surely still in copyright, whereby they violate Commons policy. Due to the complexity, as explained on my talkpage, I could put the Hesse file into a regular DR to allow for discussion and input from others. --Túrelio (talk) 08:54, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

Okay. Thank you for letting me know.

Hi Acagastya, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Hi Acagastya. I'm Turkish Wikipedia patrol ChiefBera. [1] Can I use this image on my user page? Have a good day. (I used translation, my English is not enough. Sorry if there my errors in the translation.) --ChiefBera (talk) 08:13, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

@ChiefBera: Yes/Evet. Feel free to reuse it.

Reversal without citing any clear reason

Hi, you've reverted a category name that I had added earlier and I think it should exist. Sometimes new users upload files with different spellings and without proper categories. So I keep adding even non-existent category names so that, when, there will be enough files one can create a category, and all the files that belong in the category will automatically be a part of that category. Having a redlink does not hurt. But finding files that belong to a category retrospectively is hard. In my experience, I have often found related pictures and other files randomly and having redlink category names have saved time. I am reverting back your edit as I see people like myself who spend time to categorize files will be benefited from this. --Psubhashish (talk) 03:34, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

@Psubhashish: It's great that you help categorize files. But if you think a category is relevant then why not just create the category right away? Its not forbidden to have categories with just 1 file. It is much more likely that someone will put more files in a category if it exist. Also it makes it much easier for other users to find out who someone is if there is a category. Otherwise it is just a name. --MGA73 (talk) 08:15, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
I don't disagree. :-) Will probably be a little less lazy and create. Cheers! --Psubhashish (talk) 14:02, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Appreciation

Thanks for sharing the "missing semester " it really has helped me somehow. NairobiPapel (talk) 17:29, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

@NairobiPapel: You are welcome.
acagastya 11:35, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Just how 🤔

Forgive me for my question but how does one upload creative commons (educational) videos from youtube.Or do i need to download the video first then upload to commons.Your help would be appreciated. NairobiPapel (talk) 11:33, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

@NairobiPapel: Hi, you need to first download a software called youtube-dl. It is free and it lets you download videos from many sites including YouTube. Then you can upload them via video2commons. If you don't know how to use youtube-dl, please let me know.
acagastya 11:37, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Okay..i shall install it and try.If i get any problems i shall refer back to you.Thanks. NairobiPapel (talk) 13:03, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Acagastya/LR.js

Hi Acagastya, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Acagastya/LR.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new esprima issue — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
  1. ERROR: Cannot parse line 282 column 59: Unexpected token ILLEGAL

Your CommonsMaintenanceBot (talk) at 22:40, 9 September 2020 (UTC).

I was really mad to get this message -- wspecially when there was no error and I knew my code worked fine. And then it struck me, the problem is me using syntax newer than ES5. That is quite thoughtful, @Rillke: . I should keep in mind LR script might be used by people with older JavaScript engines. Really appreciate the help!
