Template for images of plates from the Internet Archive’s scan of Owen Jones’ book Examples of Chinese ornament, selected from objects in the South Kensington Museum and other collections, London: S. & T. Gilbert, 1867.

Explanation: For all the text pages and most of the plates in this book, we have got nice images from the Internet Archive, which were scanned from a very good copy of the book. But 12 of the 100 plates were missing from that specific copy. So we need to complete Jones’ series of plates from some other source. Therefore we have added scans from some newer reprint of the book, which are not as good as scans from some original copy, but nevertheless useful.

• For images of text pages from the Internet Archive’s scan of the same book, please use the template {{Owen Jones - Examples of Chinese Ornament - Page}} instead!

Parameters:

1. Previous plate number (Arabic numeral, end of file name, with leading zeros, format: 000)
2. Current plate number (Roman numeral, exactly like in the book)
3. Current plate number (transcription as Arabic numeral, without leading zeros),
   and any additional hints about the plate number, if necessary
4. Next plate number (Arabic numeral, end of file name, with leading zeros, format: 000)
5. Jones’ original description of this plate from his “Description of the plates” (page 9–15 of the book), transcribed literally, using Jones’ (sometimes surprising) orthography
6. Additional hints, if any — or just don’t specify this parameter

Jones’ original description of this plate from his “Description of the plates” (page 9–15), transcribed literally, using Jones’ orthography: “{{{5}}}” Additional hints by Commons users: — About the file format: I have added the images of the plates as individual image files, and not the complete book as a single PDF/DjVu file, because (a) the quality of the individual images is somewhat better than the quality of the images in a PDF/DjVU file, (b) for many users it is easier to use the individual image files than to extract any image from the PDF/DjVu file first, and (c) the use of individual images for the plates allows us to add special categories or other hints to any of the images, as appropriate. — The original image files on the website (see Source) are JPEG 2000 (.jp2) files, but JPEG 2000 is not a completely free file format and (therefore?!) currently not supported by Commons; saving the image files in JPEG format would have introduced some loss of quality; therefore I have converted the image files to PNG files.
