Usage
Use this template to add a reference to a taxon on the web site ITIS by providing the taxon id on ITIS.
Note: For fishes, Commons (category, taxonavigation) follows FishBase more than ITIS
Note: This template can be used in conjunction with {{Taxoconflict}}, {{Taxa}}, {{Genera}}, {{Genera2}}, {{Species}}, {{Species2}} and {{Subspecies}} with parameter "source=ITIS" (See here the different values for source)
Note: if you want to edit this template, first try your modifications on {{ITIS/sandbox}}.You can then test your edits in {{ITIS/testcases}}.
When the new version is ready, ask an administrator to move it to the main template. You can do that by putting a {{Edit request}} in the template talk page and explaining that the admin just needs to copy the sandbox code into the main template.

Syntax
{{ITIS | id | name | validity }}
Parameters
  • id
the id of the taxon on ITIS web site.
How to retrieve the id: In the url www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=164519 the id is 164519
Sample (for Histrio): 164519
  • name
The name of the taxon with its author (don't forget italic for genus and species)
Sample (for Histrio): ''Histrio'' Fischer, 1813
  • validity (optional)
If the taxon is considered as unaccepted or synonym by ITIS, add nv.
Sample (for Histrio jagua): nv
  • checks=no (optional)
This template compares the parameter <speciesId> with the property P815 stored in wikidata (Not in case nv is provided because taxon is not valid).
When different, a maintenance category is added.
checks=no disables this test when {{ITIS}} does not describe the taxon described in wikidata (Happens when there are multiple call to {{ITIS}} on the same category/gallery, mainly in monotypic taxons)
