Licensing and date of the creation of the flag[edit]

The flag, according to FOTW website was created in 1900, and so since 100 years has passed since then, it is in Public Domain. --Oren neu dag (talk) 17:05, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The flag might have been originally designed in 1900 but this version of it (compare to the FOTW page) is not identical and is copyrighted by vector-images.com. Just as for coat of arms many flags have had widly different looks and each version tends to be sufficiently different to aquire it's own copyright. Due to this I've removed the PD-old-100 tag. If anyone can scan the original image from the 1899 almanac (probably the FOTW version is an interpretation) then that would be PD-old (and any vectorisation of it could be made free)./Lokal_Profil 20:12, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But this case is the same as the Seal of New York City.svg, which was also marked with the Template:No license, and it's origin is also from vector-images.com. And yet after finding out the original date of creation, it was changed to PD-OLD and the template no license was removed.
In light of this precedense, i ask that the same treatment will be applied to this case as well. --Oren neu dag (talk) 21:17, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In that case the discussion was held on User_talk:Kved#Image:Seal_of_New_York_City.png and the issue was never resolved it was just suggested that a DR request would be better. Afterwards holidays etc. meant that it slipepd my mind. What I'll do is that I'll create a DR request (when I find the time) for Seal_of_New_York_City.png and include this image in the discussion. For now I've removed the no license tag so that the image doesn't get nuked prematurely. /Lokal_Profil 15:21, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
