Description
English: The tone sequence siren (German: Martinshorn) from the 1960's is a component from a fire engine of the works fire service of the steelwork "Bochumer Verein" in Germany. Today it is an exhibit of the fire department museum in Hattingen.

In combination with the flashing blue lights it represents the fire department's right of way and tells the other traffic participants to clear the road instantly.
A compressor system produces the tone sequence: compressed air is passed through a valve system alternately by different tuned Martin trumpets.
In order to distinguish themselves from the signals of other vehicles such as the trams, the fire department have used sirens since the 1930s to signal their right of way. Sirens were manufactured solely by the company Deutsche Signal-Instrumenten-Fabrik Max B. Martin, which is why they are named Martinshorn in German.
