Faroese stamps 1980

In 1980, the Faroe Islands issued three stamp series. The first was on 17 March "Mountain Flowers" (FR 42-46), followed on 6 October by the Europe (CEPT) issue "Linguists" (FR 47 and 48) and on the same day "The Pews of Kirkjubøur" (FR 49-52). Like in 1979, all of the stamps were engraved and/or designed by Czesław Słania.

Mountain Flowers

Europe CEPT - Linguists

  FR 47: Dr. phil. Jakob Jakobsen (1864-1918), anthropologist, Faroese and Old Norse linguist, explorer of the Norn in Shetland.
• 
  FR 48: V. U. Hammershaimb (1819-1909), Faroese priest, politician and linguist, creator of the Modern Faroese as written language

The Pews of Kirkjubøur

The Pew ends from the St. Olav Church in Kirkjubøur were carved the Middle Ages. In total there are 14, this series starts with the first four ones. Today they are back in the Faroes, after they were for a long time in the National Museum of Copenhagen.
