Ideas for attracting participants (photographers)[edit]

  • Local and national photography, history and archaeology groups.
  • School and university students (photography/history/built environment)

As I said on another nearby page, it is a great shame you did not think of Geograph contributors when so many of the pictures in the Commons have already come from the en:Geograph project. We now have over 4.5 million photos over there, all geographically located and many of them with detailed descriptions. A few are 'tagged' for listed building status, a relatively new and underused method of indexing. Perhaps next year?––Robert EA Harvey (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for competition categories/prizes[edit]

  • Most aesthetically pleasing image [prize for image]
  • Best architectural/documentary image [prize for image]
  • Most comprehensive survey of a single building [prize for image collection]
  • Most comprehensive collection of an area [prize for image collection]

Any more thoughts on the above, as the basis for some special prizes? For myself, I would go for:

  • Best architectural/documentary image [prize for image]
  • Most comprehensive survey of a single building [prize for image collection]
  • Most comprehensive collection of an area [prize for image collection]

Suggestions for jury members[edit]

I have requested ideas from the WLM-UK mailing list and from WP and COM FPC.

Bot for Grid Ref conversions[edit]

On 21 August (according to several articles on my watch list) LivingBot went through lots of lists adding lat & long where only Grid Refs were given. I was adding lat & long manually but was told in an email (can't remember who from) that this was a waste of human effort & have since just been adding Grid Refs (from EH data sheets). I've now added hundreds more (and I suspect others have as well). Do we know if the bot will run again before the end of August?Rodw (talk) 16:24, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Press release[edit]

Is there a Press Release about WLM in the UK? Perhaps a general one which could be customised for local/regional purposes. I have a couple of local contacts who I've told about the competition, but it would be nice to send them something more tangible (with contact details for follow ups.Rodw (talk) 16:26, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template problem[edit]

There is a problem with Template:EH listed building row. It does not pass a name to Template:Coord so when someone clicks on the little globe and goes to e.g. Bing Maps, the marker defaults to the page name, e.g. List of...in Borsetshire. We originally had this down as unable to work due to wikilinking in the name field, but it's just occured to me that we wrote a system to get around that for the upload link.
