Hello! Welcome to Wiki Loves Monuments! I saw on the Arabic Wikipedia that there are monument lists like ar:ملحق:قائمة آثار محافظة العقبة. We have set up recommendations for creating lists for several reasons, read: What to keep in mind with creating a list of monuments?

In short a key component of Wiki Loves Monuments is that each monument has a unique identifier. On other Wikipedias we enable people to participate by putting upload links in the table itself, which automatically is filled in based on the unique identifier and other information. Also we have a Commons:Monuments database in what we add all the monuments to enable all kinds of tools to be used based on the unique identifiers with the help of template rows. It would also be good to add coordinates to the table and perhaps more information, but that can be a step later in time. We recommend you to transform these tables in the coming two weeks so that they are ready and to fully participate in Wiki Loves Monuments. If there are any questions, please ask at the talk page, mailing list or chat (access webchat).

Hi Romaine. Thank you for the great notes.
I edited the list of Irbid here; w:ar:ملحق:قائمة آثار محافظة إربد, please take a look at it and tell me if it is alright now so I can continue with the other lists on the same manner. Unfortunately, the official website I used as a source (from the ministry of archaeology) doesn't provide any unique identifiers, so I created my own ones as indicated in the lists' guide. I also copied the direct image uploading template and added it to the list. I fear that it isn't possible to get coordinates of monuments right now because they aren't provided anywhere officially, it is possible to navigate each monument individually on Wikimapia or some other sites then copy the coordinates manually, however, that gonna take lots of time and willn't work for all monuments --aad_Dira (talk) 18:30, 18 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks for trying but it isn't exactly what I tried to explain. It is good you set up your own identifiers, that is good. But what I tried to explain is that you would better create a row template and a header template. See for example: en:List of archaeological sites and monuments in Balochistan. The header is formed by the header template, in this example en:Template:PKmonument header, and each of the rows are created by en:Template:PKmonument row. You can copy these if you like and translate them into Arabic. The row template uses en:template:UploadCampaignLink so that if anything is updated it can be easily changed. You do not have to fill in the coordinates right now, but put already two empty parameters (latitude and longitude) in the lists so that they can be added easily later on. I think I understand you well, it is just that I have missed the point of the templates in the first place. I edited the list again: w:ar:ملحق:قائمة آثار محافظة إربد, please check it and tell me if it is alright now --aad_Dira (talk) 23:02, 18 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]
That looks great! Now bots can read these tables as well, and the upload wizard can be accessed easily. It is very good now! :-) Romaine (talk) 00:20, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Dear Romaine, thank you for clarifying things out. Wish us luck. Abbad, you are doing a great job. --Mervat Salman (talk) 07:11, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

jury, organization, prizes etc[edit]

Hi,

with a few days to go before the contest, I'm looking around to see what's the situation everywhere and what countries may need some help. I see that you have 81 monuments available already, which is great! I see some mentions on your web page of more monuments to come, I was wondering if you could very shortly summarize the situation there? Do you expect more lists to appear before the contest, or is this a long term dream?

Also, what is the situation with the jury, prizes and rules? I didn't see any, but then I don't speak Arab, so might very well have looked over it. Could you help me understand a little? You don't need to explain details, I just want to understand how far you are. If you need any help, please let me know! Effeietsanders (talk) 21:24, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In short, the summary of the monuments is that we have already set up lists for historical monuments from the ministry of archaeology. The other category I hoped we could get was the cultural monuments, we couldn't get them online, and we are still trying to get their offline lists. The last promise we got was that the lists will be sent to us by today, however, I didn't get in touch yet with the volunteer who was working on this, but I would personally expect that they didn't send anything at all.
For the second point, I don't think we will be introducing any local prizes. It isn't easy to find a fundraiser or sponsor, and we are still in our first year. For the jury, it will be given to a small committee selected by the Jordanian photography society, which is a 25 years-old organization with a high experience in photography. Thank for your offer of help, if we need anything, we will ask! --aad_Dira (talk) 01:33, 29 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]
For the prizes, you might consider to request the (free) up to 20 WLM Moleskine notebooks that every national team can get. They are not big prizes, but they're something :) Any symbolic prize might be better than nothing. You would only have to take care of the national postage. See this form for more info. Glad to hear that your jury is working out well! Effeietsanders (talk) 14:11, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, we will discuss it and tell you the outcome, I will see if we can get something symbolic and simple --aad_Dira (talk) 22:45, 31 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]

Urgent: Landing page[edit]

Hi,

it seems the contest is rather OK organized, but we have been unable to find the landing page where we should send participants. One page, explaining the contest, and how people can participate. Could you please provide the link? The only thing I could find was the project group page ar:نقاش ويكيبيديا:الويكي تهوى المعالم 2013/الأردن, but that does not seem suitable, and too much focused on Wikipedians. Please help us find the right page so that we can get the competition for Jordan started! Effeietsanders (talk) 21:26, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lodewijk. The page is ar:ويكيبيديا:الويكي تهوى المعالم, which is the main contest page for all participating Arab countries, in the head of the page there is other guides for everything related to the competition, including each country's page, contests's rules and how to participate, upload guide (Including links for each country's upload page on commons) and an open questions page --aad_Dira (talk) 22:45, 31 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]
Hmm, from what I understand of that page with Google translate is that it doesn't explain to newcomers (the majority of the people) how they can participate. I would expect it to at least include steps like India does here. But that is on a per country basis much easier, as the lists are country specific. If you could add that to a page for Jordan (I asked the same for other countries), we could start the competition immediately! Effeietsanders (talk) 22:54, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Rules and Participation page on Arabic Wikipedia makes almost the same purpose, so I created a new one with quite the same content, but with links to Jordan lists and uploading page. If this isn't what you need, please tell me so I can fix it --aad_Dira (talk) 23:58, 31 August 2013 (UTC).[reply]
That participation page is approved. Only thing is missing for the Jordan contest and that is that you only have an Arabic text for people to participate, but we also request from national teams to make a summary of the rules available in English. Also people that have visited Jordan (like for a holiday), but do not speak Arabic, do want to upload their pictures of the Jordan monuments. So the request is that you create at least short summary in English, with the rules, link to the campaign and link(s) to the monument lists on the Arabic Wikipedia. Can you do that?
As Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in Jordan/Participate now can serve as landing page, I activated the CentralNotice that should already show up above every page if someone from Jordan is visiting Wikipedia. If you have any questions, the quickest way to reach us is on IRC in the channel #wikilovesmonuments at freenode. Access webchat →. Thanks for all your work! :-) Romaine (talk) 00:38, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the approval. I added a short summary here in English. Anything still required? --aad_Dira (talk) 15:51, 1 September 2013 (UTC).[reply]
