Wiki Loves Africa is a photographic, video and audio contest.
The 2022 theme is Home and Habitat.

Entered images or media must visually capture the theme as it applies to "Africa".
To be considered, entries must be submitted under under a free license (read about licences here).

Get your camera, take photos of your Africa.
Upload your entries until 30 April to Wikimedia Commons. There are prizes to be won for winning quality photographs.

Visually celebrate Africa on Wikipedia

There are millions of subjects you can read about on Wikipedia. Of all those subjects, the ones that relate to Africa have the least coverage. This is due to a number of reasons, but some are linked to the fact that many people do not know that they can have their knowledge and cultures reflected on Wikipedia by donating their images, videos and audio to Wikipedia.

The richness, diversity and beauty of Africa deserves to be visually celebrated on Wikipedia.
YOU can help to do this. Everyone is welcome to participate!

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media that relates to that year's theme to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Wiki Loves Africa encourages participants to contribute media (photographs, video and audio) that illustrate the specific theme for that year. Each year the theme changes. Each year's theme is chosen by the community to be a universal, visually-rich and culturally-specific topics (for example, markets, rites of passage, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc).

What should we contribute ? Pictures! Audio! Videos!

The theme Home and Habitat calls for the submission of visual representations of home, habitat. The theme celebrates the diversity and unique spaces and places both humans and animals alike consider home. Those quarters, lodgings, rooms, addresses, locations, dens, nests, burrows and caves. Those places of safety and peace where people and animals can relax, recover, rest, reconnect with family and community, and where they can fully express themselves, their tastes, their identity and heritage.

Quais serão os prêmios?

There are several prizes up for grabs for quality entries:both at a national and international level. For national prizes, please see what events are being held locally in your country.

At the international level, there are 6 main prize categories for Wiki Loves Africa.

The international prizes are :

1st prize: US$2000
2nd prize: US$1500
3rd prize: US$1000
Culturally specific or traditional representations of home, houses or spaces of living : US$750
Prize for best quality video (audio and visual quality and storytelling will be taken into account): US$1000
Special collection (a series of images that tell a story): US$750

Each winner will also receive a pack of Wiki Loves Africa-branded merchandise.

Disclaimer: Prize money may be dispersed in a gift card or voucher format

Selecting the Winners

The winners will not be selected until May-June 2022. Every year, there is a rigorous process involving three stages that makes sure that only the very best of the best are selected as the International Prize Winners. Review the Jury Process on the 2021 International Jury page.

Each year it is a tough choice to choose the final winning images. The 2022 winners will not be announced until July/August 2022, but there are many beautiful winning photos that have been selected over the last 7 years! View all the winners from previous Wiki Loves Africa!

While the International Jury process is active, National Winners are usually announced by the country teams. There are prizes for incredible photos being awarded via this process. Check out the 2021 National Winners here!!
