Hi all. If you allow me, I would like to present my RFA myself rather than relying on a spontaneous nomination from an enthusiastic colleague. I have lots of them, but they are busy right now. I have created my account on Commons about 16 months ago (after about two years of moderate activity on the French WP) in order to upload a crappy PNG mathematical figure, but I've become more and more active in the last 6 or 8 months. I contribute with self-taken photographs and I have been rather active in the Valued Image project for the last few months (people in the QI project may have read my name as well). I often take time to improve picture categorization (and to organize categories in general, following tracks made of duplicates and red links). I have been flagging a few copyvios (especially pictures with no-FOP restrictions), but I must say I haven't hunted them very actively so far. I do my best to deal with other contributors in a mellow fashion, although I can be a bit irritating when I'm convinced that I'm right (it will probably be confirmed by some voter right below my presentation paragraph). I might sometimes make mistakes (who doesn't?), but I usually know when to step back. My main activity as an admin would probably be to deal with the deletion request backlog, and above all to look at the newly created cats and galleries. --Eusebius (talk) 22:08, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Unconditional Support I am very much pleased to take a break from my wiki-break and support Eusebius. Eusebius has been a very responsible, friendly, mellow, and thoughtful participant in the Valued images project the last few months, where he has gradually taken over as the primary user driving and maintaining that project. I have been very pleased to hand over my baby to Eusebius, who has taken over a considerable workload in maintaining the project, and closing the nominations. I feel convinced that Eusebius is now ready to take some more responsibility in the project and help out with some admin duties. Eusebius is a good communicator in at least English and French, which will be of benefit for our French users. -- Slaunger (talk) 22:29, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support Eusebius is definitely a reliable user, with an appreciable sense of community. Moreover, we lack of Commons admins on fr.wikipedia. Diti the penguin 22:40, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Neutral for now. Seems to be a motivated hard working contributor and I had nothing but positive encounters with him. However if the main activity as an admin is supposed to be closing deletion requests I'd be more comfortable with a bit more experience in tagging images for deletion first. Try to convince me otherwise ;-) --Dschwen (talk) 23:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

* Neutral - I've had interactions with Eusebius at en.wikipedia, where we were involved in fighting tooth and nail over whether to keep individual articles for television episodes. I think he won. I've seen him be involved in QI quite a bit (stop declining my photos!). I'll take a look later, but as yet I'm not entirely convinced about why he needs admin tools. However, if he were given them I am in no doubt that he would use them wisely. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:21, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I have not seen much activity by Eusebius in requested deletions. It would probably be wiser to engage in deletion discussions before requesting admin buttons for making a clean sweep of the backlog. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 22:43, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm pretty sure one doesn't do that, it would be nice if you could revert some of those? As this can be seen as canvassing, it is really frowned upon. I do however think this was a mistake? --Kanonkas(talk) 23:10, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A judgment error, at least. Canvassing was not the intention. I revert the ones that haven't been answered, save two. --Eusebius (talk) 23:14, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for fixing this here. --Kanonkas(talk) 23:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Really sorry about that! --Eusebius (talk) 23:21, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I personally don't think there is a problem with that. If warned people go there and support Eusebius, it means that these people gave him their trust. Anyway, on a side note, I checked the user's deleted contributions before voting; and I would have liked to see more as well. Diti the penguin 00:17, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Putting a tag on your user page like they have on en wiki is a good neutral way to handle this. RlevseTalk 12:30, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I was looking for an advertisement procedure but couldn't find it. On fr they announce RfAs on the Village Pump and the mailing list, but it looks like people don't do it here. I've sent private notices instead, without thinking about the bias in the vote procedure. --Eusebius (talk) 12:36, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Question People here seem to be interested in having admins present on the French WP (or is it simply speaking French?). For what kind of jobs is it valuable in particular, and what kind of contacts there are useful? --Eusebius (talk) 09:11, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The French community is particularly active on IRC, where speedy delete are often asked and performed by administrators on our local Wikipedia. However, such articles sometimes include copyviolated pictures as well, that only administrators at Commons can remove. This is one of the reasons.
