I wish to suggest the reworking of categories relating to New York City from 1900 to 2000 from the current format of eg Category:New York City from 1980 to 1999 to by decade, eg, "Category:New York City in the 1980s" and "New York City in the 1990s". I think we have enough material for such categories, and this would make it easier to tie them in with other decade categories. Yeah. Three and a half years later the decade categories have been created but those 40 and 20 year cats have still not been abolished, and other parts of the tree are similarly incongruent with other cities and countries or with common sense. Subcats are chronically overcrowded, neighborhoods are poorly delineated, etc. Such questions have received some attention in my personal talk page, but it seems to me we ought to attract more discussants and more cat wranglers to a more public one. Lacking Projects in Commons, we can use this Category talk page and similar medium level ones for discussing the affairs of child cats, if we attract Wikipedians to watchlist and participate here. Or we could move such things to the existing en Projects, but I like better the notion of handling Commons questions inside Commons with little more than notifications in the Projects. Additional foreign language descriptions may be added to this category to help broader audiences better experience this topic.

The most common foreign language in New York City is Spanish so this is the highest priority language. However there are other languages spoken in the city (this goes without saying).

Those of the highest priority are indicated by the New York City Department of Education, which maintains websites in the following languages other than English and Spanish: Arabic, Bengali, Mandarin Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, and Urdu.
