What is the difference between "Nudism" and "Naturism"? What criteria shows if an image should be categorised as one and not the other? I note on en:Wikipedia that "Nudism" redirects to en:W:Naturism. Why do they need two separate categories here? If there is no particular reason, I suggest these two categories be merged. -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:45, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at this years ago, and concluded that life was too short: so a few comments.
  • An American uses the term Nudism, a European uses Naturism to refer to non-erotic and often organised nude recreation. At the moment we have avoided the acrimonious linguistic debate that has being rumbling on in naturist circles for 80 or so years.
  • A European uploader would tag Naturism, an American would tag Nudism neither would think of 'organised nude recreation ' when tagging up a batch on commonist. I can't see that deprecating a cat will kill it
  • The experienced Wiki addict would use both, and then Nudity as well. We could start by purging duplicates from Nudity
  • I have just purged duplicate images from naturism that were of dubious linkage (ie plonked there without thought) and all the others seem to be justifiably called naturist shot (from a European naturist perspective)
  • The Nudism cat looks a mess- some Nudism/Naturism shots but a lot seemed to be out of cat- using this as a dumping ground.
  • I would merge Nudism into Naturism and purge out the vanity shots. Then subdivide using the cats suggested in en:Wiki-- Beach naturism, Club Naturism, Festival naturism, Resort naturism, etc maybe

Astutely observed, Clem. To Infrogmation: I definitely think a CfD is justified here to get wider input. Powers (talk) 12:13, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
