Gloeden's inscription.
English: A note by Wilhelm von Gloeden handwritten in an album now at Fondazione Alinari, Florence ("Terrazzo S. Leo, fatto 1886. Peppino S<c>imone Dr<ap>p<eggiato>. Pietro per terra" - "San Leo terrace. Peppino S<c>imone, draped. Pietro, lying on the ground"), reveals that a set of images was taken in 1886 in what was back then Villa San Leo, owned by family Scimone. One of the sons of the then owner Francesco, Peppino (i.e. Giuseppe) Scimone, is named in Gloeden's note.
The villa in 1908 was made into a hotel, "Villa Beau Séjour", currently "Hotel Bel Soggiorno", owned by the grandchildren of the Scimone family, and the exact set of these images is still visible on their terrace.
