English: RML was the class designation given by London Transport to the Routemaster bus in its later, longer, version of the rear open platform configuration (i.e. bus). The RML class is distinguished from the original, shorter RM class, by the small extra window in the middle of the bus. At 524 buses, the total number of RML class buses built was dwarfed by the far larger RM class (2,119), however they in turn are far more numerous than the next largest batches, 68 RMC class coaches and the 65 airport coaches for BEA. At first, a trial batch of 24 of the RML class was built in 1961, numbered from RML880 (reg. WLT 880) to RML903 (reg. WLT 903) (all Routemasters built for LT were numbered sequentially, regardless of class). The first four buses initially wore the designation ER (standing for extended Routemaster), but this was changed within months, in favour of RML (not to be confused with the Leyland bodied RM class prototype RML3). With the trial batch having been judged a success in service, production of the RM class ceased in 1965 at RM2217, switching immediately to RML production, which ran from RML2261 (CUV 261C) to RML2760 (SMK 760F), built in 1968.
