Choosing a free license

[edit]

Hello, Yuri. :-) I understood about your troubles with an image which you wanted to donate freely but you leave others decide under what license. Actually, choosing a license is not such a big pain in the ass :-) You can easily understand the differences between various options and choose your favourite, using this short flowchart: Image:Choose-free-license-flowchart.png and by checking the concise explanations here: freedomdefined:Licenses#Criteria_for_choosing_a_license.

In the meanwhile, I understand you, but I also understand the rest of our colleagues who are reluctant to making this choice instead of you. I have also dealt with cases of people who have freely licensed their works under a particular license, and two years later they finally understand and a re unpleasantly surprised with whay they have agreed upon... Making informed choices is important thing when it comes to free content.

Hope these two tips will help you. Spiritia 13:24, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
