Photos of the Moon by Apollo spacecraft[edit]
Hello. Where did you discuss your mass removing of Category:Photos of the Moon by Apollo spacecraft from the files? Stas (talk) 01:05, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- Stas000D, I spot checked a few of the images affected, and they seemed okay. The category was removed from images taken by astronauts on the lunar surface, rather than by a spacecraft or from a spacecraft, which seems appropriate. Mind you, I could have missed some. — Huntster (t @ c) 02:31, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- In many cases (if the photo was made on lunar surface and has a category "Apollo [number] moon photography") - yes, it's OK. But some affected images (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) were still made from the orbit. This image now has no categories related to Apollo at all. Stas (talk) 03:19, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- Huntster explained the reason behind my edits pretty well. I also removed any images taken during the Apollo 8, 10 and 13 missions. Because the "Moon photography" categories of these missions only contain images taken from space, and not the surface of the Moon, they are appropriate as sub-categories of "Photos of the Moon by Apollo spacecraft". Therefore, also having all those images in the "Apollo spacecraft" parent category is redundant. Regarding this image, "Apollo 10 moon photography" should have been added after my removal of the other category. Sorry about that. I hope I have cleared up any confusion about the edits. --Wstrwald (talk) 22:10, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, now all is clear. (In such cases, I do manual editing with informative edit summary instead of using tools like Cat-a-lot or Hotcat). So, sorry for a largely inadequate comment and thanks for the work! Stas (talk) 01:01, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
