Hallo Vunz, in the future, if you want to rename a file please do not upload it as second time, use {{rename}} instead. Do not change licenses. That is copyfraud. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 13:51, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure I know what mean. This particular one was made by me and replaces an old one, is that copyfraud? Vunz (talk) 18:56, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Open Street Map[edit]

Groeten, Wikifalcon (talk) 09:21, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vunz (talk) 16:16, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming of vSTR family of BSicons[edit]

Hello, I do not quite understand your motive of renaming the vSTR family of BSicons, including vSTRlf, evSTRrf, exvSTRrg etc. The current names seem alright. Can you please explain it for me? Thanks. Newfraferz17 (talk) 04:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know which renaming you refer to, but we once stated, that in the "v"-namespace of BSicons there are many illogical named icons ... axpdeHello! 07:51, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I mean the renaming of File:BSicon vSTRlf.svg to _vSTRgl, File:BSicon evSTRlg.svg to _evSTRg+r, etc. Newfraferz17 (talk) 10:42, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Although this is Vunz's talk page, this is a point I might answer myself:
At a certain point I encoutered some problems naming when using the style User:Bernina once created. He used an f to indicate tracks or junctions going to the left/right when seen forward driving direction (which is beginning with the first day of this project from the top of the BSicon to the bottom!), and a g to indicate those when seen "against" driving direction (i.e. from bottom to top). Those suffixes are abbreviations of Fahrtrichtung (driving direction) and Gegenrichtung (opposite direction), which obviously can't be translated well :-}
At this time noone imagined the creativity of the global community to invent new icons ... thus I started a slightly modified naming scheme in german wikipedia and introduced it to commons as well. Some had obstructions mostly concerning the amount of work which has to be done, but others thought it's a good idea:
Now we name all BSicons seen in driving direction (i.e. top to bottom), if there's a track from top to the left the suffix is l, if there's a track from left to the buttom the suffix is +l (right side similiar). Thus it's far easier to follow.
Then I reused the g to indicate a straight track (geradeaus in german) and a new suffix q to indicate a track "aqross (quer in german), both have to be placed in front of "l/r", otherwise it would be confused with the old "lg/rg" system (see above). The q is used with stations, stop and so on as well, the g might be omitted if unambiguous. Cheers axpdeHello! 09:51, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing this up Axpde :-), I must've missed this one somehow. Vunz (talk) 08:34, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You have made several attempts to upload a new version of File:Zeeuwselijn.png. Each was reverted because this new version is too different from the original one to be accepted as a replacement. Please upload your version under a new name instead. — Xavier, 23:44, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want a line on the second half, it will be better to draw the bow smaller as an circle-arc. The bow now looks like an edge at the connection to the line and therefore not nice. I'll create an example for that. Antonsusi (talk) 11:27, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's done by clipping so maybe your browser doesn't show it as nice as it should be. However, I changed all the icons in this category and they're all done in a similar way so there's a lot of replacements to be made. Frankly I like the current form better. Vunz (talk) 11:42, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, with a circlebow the bow is not seen well, therefore I testet an 90 degree elliptic arc, from (125,75) to (250,250) instead of an arc from (125,0) to (250,250). That shows a better "connection" and the bow is seen well. We shoudt use the bow from (125,75). You can compare it:

Antonsusi (talk) 12:20, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, code is very neat as well. I don't see any difference however using Safari, Firefox or Chrome on OSX but maybe clipping doesn't work very well. Still a lot of changes to be made ;-) Vunz (talk) 12:50, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases, the code is easy. So I've created this icon manually in a plauin text editor. With copy and paste, this is fast.

If you think, that my version is well, than we did'nt need the clipping-code. We don't need to hurry for uploading. Continuos work is enough. Antonsusi (talk) 14:21, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

my apply for adminship[edit]

Hi Vunz,

after pondering long about it I applied for adminship, I'd really like your support on Commons:Administrators/Requests/Axpde. Thanks axpdeHello! 09:17, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SVGs[edit]

Do you know, how to write BSicons (SVG) with texteditor without clipping and therefore smooth and sure with different browsers and systems ? Antonsusi (talk) 22:42, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not really I'm afraid. In time I gathered more and more tricks for creating the icons just by using TextEdit. Clipping was a way to represent this class of icons the way I wanted it, it caused other problems however. The way you recoded them seems to work very well. Vunz (talk) 10:37, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases, the arcs are not difficult, because they are a quarter of circle/ellipse and not turned. The Path-Data is
A <rx> <ry> <angle> <longbowflag> <swapflag> <x-dest> <y-dest>

Where rx = x-radius, ry=y-radius, angle= rotation-angle x-dest/y-dest = coordinates of the endpoint.

If longbowflag= 1 the arc is longer than a half circle/ellipse, if it is zero, not.

The swapflag (0 or 1) defines the drawing in mathematical positive or negative direction.

Example 1
d="M 100,100 A 100 100 0 0 0 200,200"

means: "Move to (100|100). Draw an elliptic arc with x-radius=100 and y-Radius= 100 (that's a circle) with rot-angle = 0 (does not matter in case of a circle), shorter than a half ( < 180 degrees) and math. pos. to the point (200|200)"

This creates a quarter circlearc to (200|200).

Example 2
d="M 100,100 A 100 100 0 1 0 200,200"

Here, the longbowflag is set, so you'll get a 3/4 circlearc to (200|200)

The four cases of drawing a circlearc from yellow to pink.

On the example image you see

  • red:
d="M 200,200 A 100,100 0 0 0 300,300"
  • green:
d="M 200,200 A 100,100 0 0 1 300,300"
  • blue:
d="M 200,200 A 100,100 0 1 0 300,300"
  • black:
d="M 200,200 A 100,100 0 1 1 300,300"

Simply try it out and look the result in the browser. Antonsusi (talk) 17:33, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This looks nice, I'll disassemble the code in an attempt to understand. Thanks! Vunz (talk) 09:42, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Here you'll find a tutorial from the W3C-team. Large, but Ok for knowing all important and all special features. Important for WP are all static elements and the attributes, they can have, Transformations and Text. Antonsusi (talk) 00:54, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong name[edit]

Hello (again). At

and

(may be several more) you've added a deletion requ. with the reason "wrong name", but you didn't add the correct name to use instead. Can you add the correct name for setting the "badname-box" ? Antonsusi (talk) 21:29, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the "bad name" tag for these 5. I'll check the others. In case you encounter more please let me know. Vunz (talk) 09:54, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

some new v-icons[edit]

Hi Vunz,

Antonsusi created two new icons, I suggested new names, can you please check, whether they're consistently named parallel-line-icons?

Thanks in advance! axpdeHello! 23:28, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seems ok to me :-) Vunz (talk) 12:28, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How about renaming File:BSicon vSBHF.svg to File:BSicon vS+BHF.svg? It looks more like File:BSicon S+BHF.svg than File:BSicon SBHF.svg ! axpdeHello! 15:56, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I try to clean up behind you (usually I was the one to mess around ;-) I had to think about parallel railways, too ...

More to come! :) axpdeHello! 16:26, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I like the 2 bubbles better too, but I think that there should be only one kind — unless there’s a substantive difference between what is intended to be symbolized with   (vBHF-BHF) and   (vBHF): if so, a new ID scheme should be created.
Talking about style and looks of icons, not meaning, I’d love to have the icons of the type   (vBHFa) to look more like   (vKBHFa)-over-  (vSTRa).
Tuvalkin (talk) 03:46, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to have someone cleanup after me ;-)
Greets axpdeHello! 07:25, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see what you mean by , however the vSTRa & vSTRe are a different kind in my opinion and the current name is more simple than the one you propose. Still it's abut consistency, if you feel they should be renamed than so be it! :-)
  • Actually the blue one (File:BSicon uvuBHF-BHF.svg) is twice BHF, since it is similar to (File:BSicon udBHF.svg + File:BSicon udBHF.svg). I strived for a consistency between half width icons and the parallel railway icons.
Vunz (talk) 07:58, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The bullet of BHF is usually 300px diameter (to wide for half-width icons), HST is usually 200px. Those 250px bullets are a bit disadvantageous because right in between BHF and HST ...
Concerning half-width icons we have no choice, but speaking about parallel-line icons I'd suggest to use either 200px in case of HST and 300px in case of BHF but no 250px! My2ct axpdeHello! 07:06, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I see the point, the blue one should go. Vunz (talk) 06:42, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just working on deletion requests, I came accross File:BSicon vABZld-KRZ.svg and I have to admit, that I like that look better than the look of the new icon File:BSicon vABZgl+l-KRZ.svg. Ok, the place of those vertical lines are wrong, but how about changing the look? (the "right" version as well). axpdeHello! 11:36, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As a small icon in a table I think the difference doesn't really matter. Here I strived for consistency as well, since (File:BSicon vABZgl+l-KRZ.svg) is identical to (File:BSicon dABZgl+l.svg + File:BSicon dKRZ.svg) Something you can't achieve with the old one. Vunz (talk) 07:58, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What's the sense of creating a parallel-line icon with exactly the same look as the combination of two half-width icons? I'd suggest to keep different look to put the use in the position to choose the look he likes ... what do you think? axpdeHello! 07:06, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well initially I managed to build complex schemes with only parallel icons. But in time they weren't sufficient and to prevent creating very complex parallel icons I started using half width icons. I wanted a consistent look and feel though, not only between half width and parallel railway icons but also within the category parallel icons and by creating a whole new set (Category:Icons for railway descriptions/parallel railways/junction+crossing) I think I managed. Junctions from either track to the left and right look exactly the same, they have the same curve. I put a lot of effort in this and prefer to keep it this way... In case we keep File:BSicon vABZld-KRZ.svg instead of , all icons in this category should be reviewed. Vunz (talk) 06:42, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your efforts are undoubted and the listing you mentioned above does really look well. The old icons are unusable anyways due to the incorrect placement of the vertical lines.
Unfortunaly several of the old style icons are still in use so I can't delete them although tagged for speedy delete. Maybe you could check those icons again and tell me all icons already out of usage, I'll do the same. axpdeHello! 14:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you :-) I will check all the old ones again, what about those in use on user pages like AlisonW and Tuvalkin? They have to be removed / replaced as well I suppose? Vunz (talk) 21:39, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't care of those automated lists, they can savely be ignored! axpdeHello! 21:48, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And for something something completely different. Antonsusi began to upload new versions of several icons using "fill" instead of "stroke", what's your opinion about that? axpdeHello! 14:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't noticed, but I prefer stroke instead of fill, is this an issue or a technicality? Vunz (talk) 21:39, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The sense of vectorgraphics is to use vectors if you want to draw lines. Antonsusi said the wiki renderer and some older browsers don't do well with strike and therefore preferes fill. I said we can't (and shouldn't) exchange 2000 icons that look ok at 20x20px (or even 30x30px in nl-WP ;-) but rather wait until they fixed the renderer ;-)
All right :-) That's why my icons where I used clipping didn't work, see above. Vunz (talk) 22:29, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Antonsusi told me as well some facts about svgs that we should note somewhere at a central place as a guide to code 100% valid BSicons ... Groetjes axpdeHello! 21:48, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
True, too many lousy coded icons made by SVG tool keep appearing unfortunately... Vunz (talk) 22:29, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for deletion[edit]

Could you please replace these BSIcon RfD with normal {{Duplicate}} tags? --DieBuche (talk) 22:45, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest to exchange the deletion request by {{Bad name}} – I'll delete those with only few occurances directly! Regards axpdeHello! 07:56, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All incomplete deletion requests are fixed, they were changed to {{Bad name}} and {{Duplicate}} where appropriate. Vunz (talk) 08:48, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it ... axpdeHello! 14:38, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

One more paralell line double branching icon family[edit]

BS Icons renaming process[edit]

Good morning,

I renamed most of the BS icons.

The remaining pictures have already target files, sometimes identical, sometimes with a different orientation.

Could you fix the situation: i. marking as {{Duplicate}} the duplicatas ii. fixing {{Rename}} templates or adding one template to target file if it also have to be renamed iii. notify me so I can resume the process

I've read on Newfraferz87 talk page there are some problems with CommonsDelinker, do we need to do some bot requests (if it's the same request for every wiki, I can request my bot to handle that)? --Dereckson (talk) 07:14, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, there's just one that needs renaming. Vunz (talk) 09:01, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. --Dereckson (talk) 12:21, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I renamed your two last requests.
By the way, do you want file mover rights? So, you'll be able to rename yourself those pictures. --Dereckson (talk) 23:37, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That would be nice! :-) 15:33, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I assigned you the rights. --Dereckson (talk) 15:45, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's fast! Vunz (talk) 15:49, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't blank pages[edit]

Hi Vunz,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked File:BSicon uBHFr.svg on Commons. I assume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regularly for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. 14:33, 8 September 2010 (UTC)–Krinkletalk

Actually I blanked it for removing the redirect because a new icon with the same name had to be uploaded. Is that ok with you? Vunz (talk) 14:37, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I see that re-uploading isn't very easy on a redirect so removing the redirect-part made perfect sense. However, since you're essentially uploading a new file, to avoid triggering errors and leaving an irrelevant history behind. Just put a quick {{Speedydelete}} on it, so you can do a normal upload from there. But the way you did it is fine too. –Krinkletalk 15:00, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks for the advice. Vunz (talk) 15:02, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming of railway icons[edit]

Hello. An editor tagged a number of images of railway icons for renaming, but indicated that he is not sure what the correct names should be. He left a note saying "not sure about the prefexis [sic], please ask User:Vunz, he's the expert for parallel railways!". Can you please have a look at the images which are in "Category:Media renaming requests needing target", and advise what the correct names should be? (You can do that by editing the {{Rename}} tag, like this: "{{rename|[State correct name here]|[Reason for renaming]}}". Also, please check if the file name "File:BSicon v???BHF-???BHF.svg" is correct. Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 08:21, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, they're checked and renamed! Vunz (talk) 12:26, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! — Cheers, JackLee talk 14:11, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are some more railway icons at "Category:Media requiring renaming" that require your input. Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 17:34, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Those BSicons are non standard, maybe we should deal some DRs? axpdeHello! 14:13, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I put them on the delete candidate list. Vunz (talk) 21:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning, there is a new bunch of BS icons rename requests. --Dereckson (talk) 03:45, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

obsolete redirects[edit]

Hi Vunz,
I have undone the last few {{speedy|obsolette redirect}} nominations because they don't have to deleted. Unless the filename is really wrong or another file needs to be uploaded in it's place, please leave redirects as they are. There are a lot of reasons to preserve redirects. One stronger than the other: Usage from other wikimedia wikis (in GlobalUsage) would break if it was still in usage (although those links can be replced). Private installations that embed images from Commons (can't be seen in GlobalUsagee) should not be forgotten, the software give them the option to use Commons as a repository, braking links is not a nice service. And ofcourse not to forget old page versions and cached searchengines. Thanks again, –Krinkletalk 07:32, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Allright that's new for me. I checked the global usage and made every necessary replacement, that's why I nominated them for speedy deletion. I won't do it again. Vunz (talk) 14:52, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, leftover redirects lead to reusage of outdated icon IDs. And it's not our business to ensure correct links for people outside wikipedia! Whenever I delete an obsolete redirect I mention the new name, so everyone is able to readjust the links. axpdeHello! 16:38, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"v"-prefix[edit]

Hi Vunz,

just updated Commons:Icons for railway descriptions/Policies#naming conventions and was at a loss with the question where the "v"-prefix was derived from ... it's neither German nor English origin, but maybe Nederlands? axpdeHello! 22:45, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't think of a Dutch origin, it's probably more graphical, where the "v" represents two converging lines. It would have been better to have chosen a "p" prefix ;-) Vunz (talk) 09:29, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, you may change all those parallel railway icons if you like ;-) axpdeHello! 12:39, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I think I won't ;-) Vunz (talk) 08:58, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"LENDE"-icons[edit]

Hi Vunz,

you seem to think we don't need those icons (and I agree with you), but I wasn't sure whether the canal-builders might need those. I suggest to file a mass deletion request, would you? axpdeHello! 00:04, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a messy icon, trying to combine two different ones which makes it to complicated. At least those aren't in use therefore a mass deletion request might be in order :-) Vunz (talk) 08:03, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
