Many thanks

Thank you for your documentary images of the Landslide at Gjerdrum, Norway, 2020. From the Netherlands, I like to express my compassion with the people who suffered or even died in this terrible disaster. Regards, Elly (talk) 16:27, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, even with having seen all the pictures in media and television etc, it was still quite shocking seeing the enormous size of the hole in the ground in person. It's really hard to grasp the magnitude just from pictures. TommyG (talk) 17:18, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
The better you made the photo`s. Elly (talk) 18:45, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Rename against policy

This should not have happened. -- Tuválkin 18:43, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

@Tuvalkin: How so? Original uploader request. What seems to be the problem? TommyG (talk) 18:56, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

About System Z14 file renaming

Hello, that just about this file: File:IBM System Z14 (front).png. As You can see on a official IBM images, the z14 mainframes:

  • Don't have a zSystems inscription on the doors
  • Have simplified door pattern.

This design and naming typical for z13 line (with zSystem sign) and for z12 line (with zEnterprise sign).

I create a categories for IBM z13 and IBM z14 machines for avoid same mistakes. But this file still need a renaming. Thanks.

@ThisIsNotABetter: Thanks, I have moved the file. TommyG (talk) 14:12, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Well, not the same image but identical in National Portrait Gallery with the title John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll and Greenwich. The same image it is in [1], [2]. Therefore the previous image was a crop from a personal blog and I don't think it is a realiable source. Thanks!--Docosong (talk) 22:10, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

@Docosong: Thanks, I've moved the file now. TommyG (talk) 22:26, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Copyright Correction

Hello, there I noticed you filed a complaint on the photo I uploaded File:Bolaji Ayorinde SAN.jpg I would like to know why you flagged the picture when it is my work and rightly labeled. I took the picture for an article upload and It was uploaded from my personal files. So what do you think is wrong with it Mysticmindz (talk) 19:01, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Mysticmindz: , since it's meanwhile been deleted, I'm unable to check what it was that alerted me, but I can say that in general, scaled down, low resolution copies of images which has previously been uploaded to multiple sites on the Internet raises a red flag and is very often a copyright violation. If this is indeed your photograph, I apologize and you can ask the deleting admin to restore your image while you go through the OTRS-process to verify your ownership to the image. TommyG (talk) 14:02, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Brenda Navarro, escritora mexicana

Hello Tommy! I watched your request for permission of this photo. As a comment, I see that the person who uploaded the photo (Ángel Soto Saldivar) has the same name as the stamp in the metadata as the author. Maybe that is useful to verify that he is the same person. Best, --ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 23:31, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Yes, @ProtoplasmaKid: , I agree it seems likely that the user uploading the files is the author. I've removed the tag from the file, but I think it would probably still be useful to go through the OTRS-process for the image, if only to avoid similar situations in the future. Category:Anita Moen

Hei TommyG.

Commons. PS.

Rename the images

Hi User:TommyG I saw you renamed some of the images I requested but there are more.

[3] and could you rename the images that are linked to this one. Irani's name is spelt wrong.

And for this one [4] [5]

it’s a different person the name of the person in Ihana Dhillon not Puri and I have proof.

Look in the source [6] and this [7] quite different. Also if you don’t believe me check Dhillons page [8] so please rename these two as well Preetykaur761 (talk) 15:12, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

user:TommyG please can you rename then please don’t ignore my request. Preetykaur761 (talk) 08:46, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

[9] rename this as well thank you Preetykaur761 (talk) 08:47, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

There's nearly 300 images in the rename requests backlog. I'm working my way through it, but it takes time. TommyG (talk) 09:53, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Tommy, When you decline files could you please provide a reason for each one - Unfortunately I'm not a mind reader and not all your declines have been obvious (for instance there was indeed a mistake in this file and again without moaning a Google Search would've told you that :) ),
Many thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 21:50, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

We need your feedback!

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi TommyG, why did you revert my rename request at File:Junta Militar Peruana de 1968-1980.jpg? It falls under COM:FNC reason 3: "To correct obvious errors in filenames, including misspelled proper nouns, incorrect dates, and misidentified objects or organisms." Thanks, -M.nelson (talk) 20:46, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Because we don't rename files that are under a delete review. Feel free to ask for a rename again when the delete request has been closed. TommyG (talk) 05:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Alf Olsen (1917-2005) (48909268333).jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

About my Renaming Request

Hi. I saw you just declined my request of renaming my file (File:Japan_Districts_of_the_House_of_Representatives_map.svg). Are you suggesting that I have to manually change every single wiki page currently using my old image to the new file? That seems like a lot of needless work. Sorry if I bothered you-沁水湾 (talk)It

I am suggesting you take the current version of the file and upload that file as a new file. You then update any articles using that file to point to the new filename if that is correct. Once that is done, you revert the file back to the version uploaded by Talleyrand6. You can't usurp files and make them into something completely different, then have them renamed to fit your new completely different file content, just because it's convenient for you. The original file had a completely different content and was not specific to the 2021 elections. See COM:OVERWRITE for more details. TommyG (talk) 07:20, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I've written notes here. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 14:34, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, that seems reasonable. Just reference the talk page when changing the date so that others don't need to wonder why the date doesn't match the archive source. TommyG (talk) 16:50, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Done. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 15:24, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

@TommyG: going thourgh the history of this file, I noticed you renamed it upon request of now blocked user MilHistExp: Reason: The rank of this person was SS-Unterscharführer. The thing is, to my knowledge it should read SS-Unterscharführer (kurz: Uscha; Ansprache: Unterscharführer). Unless of course I am missing something here. :-) Thanks. Lotje (talk) 12:13, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

@Lotje: I'm not quite sure what the question is? At the time, the rename request seemed reasonable, but I don't write or speak German, so I may of course have gotten it wrong. Is it that is should be SS-Uscha and not SS-Ushacf? If so, please feel free to create a new rename request to get it corrected. TommyG (talk) 13:05, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
@TommyG: , I made some interwikilinks which might be helpful and prefer pinging @Bundesarchiv-B6: who might be able to advise on this. Renaming files of the Bundesarchiv is something I personally wouldn't do. German people are very organized and I wouldn't want to screw up things for them. :-) Lotje (talk) 13:22, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
@Lotje: , I've seen quite a few cases of images uploaded by Bundersarchive referencing obviously incorrect locations or names of ships etc when reviewing the uploads related to Norway back in 2008 and onwards, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. But, please let me know if there's anything to you actually want me to do about it. TommyG (talk) 12:43, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you TommyG for coming back to me on this one. Don't think there is an urgent need to do anything right now. Though, if Bundesarchiv-B6 react to my ping, they might change it themselves. :-) Cheers. Lotje (talk) 12:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
OK TommyG is right, it's a "Unterscharführer - so Lotje and TommyG, thank you very much for your advice, we have changed it already in our database www.bild.bundesarchiv.de and on Wikimedia Commons!--Bundesarchiv-B6 (talk) 13:52, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Only me again, that user page has been deleted I see now. :-) Lotje (talk) 12:25, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Reverted edit

Hello @TommyG. I saw that you reverted edit made to "File:Madeline Eklund No. 24 - 49546940628.jpg". Since it was reverted, why the insult? daSupremo [talk] 22:43, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

@DaSupremo: Well, most of the tags were factually wrong. It's not a poster, it doesn't depict design, other than the fact that all printed materials are designed in some form or way and there are no rectangles in the image. I call it what it is, and it would be useful if you were a bit more thorough when picking tags to apply to files. TommyG (talk) 07:23, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
@TommyG Since it was 'wrong', the revert was enough. What I do not understand is the insult after the reversion. Concerning the last sentence, I will keep that in mind. daSupremo [talk] 10:57, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
