Hello,

I see you removed category:German troops in Finland 1940-1945 for this picture, but what about File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-103-0906-28, Nordeuropa, Soldaten vor Hinweisschildern.jpg or many other pictures in category:German troops in Finland 1940-1945 ? Teofilo (talk) 23:27, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, I reverted the top one on my watchlist, but then changed my mind, and left the other one alone. Some of the pictures in that category has been discussed before: f.ex User_talk:Riisipuuro#Bundesarchiv_images, while in others, like f.ex File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-101-0814-17A, Nordeuropa, Soldaten und Einheimische.jpg you have the banner in the background which gives an indication that this is probably in Finland. I was just wondering what reason you had to believe this was in Finland, and not Norway or the Kola peninsula? TommyG (talk) 21:32, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
File:Trandumskogen_monument_english.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

About some construction site photos

Hello TommyG. I'm interested in some Bundesarchive WWII photos describing construction work of/for German forces. Could you tell how you got geoghaphical location of these pictures, and do you have any additional information about them:

  • Hammerfest: File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-113-0025-22, Nordeuropa, Ausbau einer befestigten Stellung.jpg
  • photos MAB 4./517 Mestersand (Bild_101I-110-1694-xx)
  • and the photos Batterie Vara / MKB 6/502 Vara / Møvik fort (Bild_101I-113-0010-xx)

TIA --Riisipuuro (talk) 10:04, 28 August 2011 (UTC)--

Right, let's see if I can recall how I found the locations. For some of the Bundesarchiv photos, I was smart enough to note in the edit comment, the talk page or on the image page itself where I found the location from but unfortunately not all of them :-) A lot of it was thorough this thread on the Norwegian site kystfort.com discussion forum. F.ex the Hammerfest-pictures was on this page: http://www.kystfort.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=35514#p35514 Unfortunately, you need to be logged in to see pictures uploaded to the forum but it's basically a «Now and Then» picture of File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-113-0025-29, Nordeuropa, Wachtposten an Küste.jpg. For File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-113-0025-22, Nordeuropa, Ausbau einer befestigten Stellung.jpg I have only assumed that it is in the same location, since it's from the same film strip, and only some 7 pictures apart. It's not 100%, but I think it's about as close as we'll get at this point.
MAB 4./517 Mestersand (Bild_101I-110-1694-xx) was if I recall correctly identified by a person who had visited the area in recent years. He is probably one of the more knowledgeable persons when it comes to the Atlantic wall in Norway, so I trust his identification.
For Batterie Vara / MKB 6/502 Vara / Møvik fort (Bild_101I-113-0010-xx), the cannon in the last picture of the series from that location is easily identifiable, as it is still located at the same site, today. Se f.ex File:Batterie_vara_kanon.JPG. The same goes for the rest of the pictures in that series. Many of the bunkers pictured, still exists today so it's easy to identify them by comparing these pictures with pictures taken recently from the same area. If I'm not entirely mistaken, I believe that the image File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-113-0010-10, Nordeuropa, Bau von Befestigungsanlagen.jpg is also used and identified in the book «Tyske kystfort i Norge» from 1982 by Jan Egil Fjørtoft, which is sort of the Atlantic Wall bible, for Norway :-) TommyG (talk) 11:13, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

There, is that better? Not really sure what I had done to the previous version, but this one should be cleaned up and more neutral colors TommyG 16:42, 22 August 2012 (UTC)  Support Definitely better, QI to me now. --Iifar 10:02, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. odder (talk) 10:07, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm a patroller on no:wp so I'm familiar with the concept :-) TommyG (talk) 12:57, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Kategorier

Hei!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Norge/Finland

Hej TommyG!

TommyG (talk) 19:40, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
Greit!--Skogsfrun (talk) 05:29, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

(re. your note at ru.wikipedia) I'll be uploading it, alhthough slowly. Thanks for the tip! Kaluga.2012 (talk) 09:35, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. Don't know if you're familiar with uploading from Flickr, but you can use User:Flickr_upload_bot to greatly simplify the process. Also, if you could add images you upload to Category:Images_from_The_Municipal_Archives_of_Trondheim, that would be very helpfull. TommyG (talk) 10:07, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
