Wiki Commons deletion[edit]

Please state a valid reason what possible threat is my flag causing in wikipedia commons for you to request deletion. Just curious... Jamaikaa (talk) 01:18, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jamaikaa, Wikimedia Commons is a repository of educational media files, and has a specific project scope. A flag of a non-notable micronation is unlikely to have any educational purpose, so it would fall outside of the Commons scope. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 01:27, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't wikimedia for pictures of all kinds? I can't find any guideline that states that uploaded content must be educational or real. Of course all wikipedia articles must be truthful but I just can't think of any reason what harm one micronation flag will do if it's just floating here along thousands and thousands of other uploads. @Jamaikaa, I linked you to the project scope, which clearly states that Commons is for "educational media content". Content does not necessarily have to be "real", per se, but it should serve some educational purpose, and the flag of a non-notable micronation is, like I said, quite unlikely to have any educational purpose. I proposed it for deletion not because it would do "harm", but because it is simply not within scope. The fact that much other content (including much other out-of-scope content) exists does not have any bearing on whether this file should be kept; individual cases are evaluated on their own merits (see this related essay section on English Wikipedia).
