Categories

By all means add to the categories I have placed on my images, but do not remove any before first asking me. Note not all of the images are specific to one category. For example the Lord Lt of West Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Warrior beer. Wiki Media is open to all people from anywhere in the world. They need to be able to find images easily and having them buried in sub categories is not always a good idea. I have placed them in categories where I can find them, along with others that I feel are relevant. I also note you are new to Wikimedia so please note that you need to end your messages by adding four tildes ie:- ~~~~ which will tag your messages with your username and the date. Re: Maps

Hello there,

I was reluctant to add maps for the non-metropoltian counties, simply because I know if I do one, I'll want to do the whole of England to ensure there is a consistent style across Wikipedia.... I could do them for North and East Yorkshire though, but I'd need the source material off Lozleader. I think DDStretch is considering producing maps for Cheshire and possibly Staffordshire?

North Yorkshire would be quite a challenge because of its size, whilst I imagine East Yorkshire would be listed as Humberside in the book I've been using as source material, as it was published 1974. I'd be quite keen on getting West and/or South Yorkshire upto an acceptable standard on Wikipedia... you may be surprised to know I have roots in Sowerby and Eastwood (near Todmorden). Pardon, but you've uploaded another painting - you see, one with the boy. I've revered it to the version without boy. Please, upload this wonderfull painting as a new file. --Shakko (talk) 17:43, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

hmm, I belive, your version was a fragment of this painting File:Charles I with M. de St Antoine (1633); Anthony Van Dyck.jpg--Shakko (talk) 17:45, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. I notice that you have uploaded Image:Joseph-Lancaster.jpeg and at the same time replaced an older one. I think you should know that this is only allowed when the two images are almost exactly alike. Here in Commons we would like to host as many different, useful versions as possible for Wikimedia projects to choose from. I have restored your image to an older version, but I hope you will upload your fine image with another name. Thank you, and happy editing! Herby talk thyme 12:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

In general

Please do not overwrite existing images. Upload them with another name by all means but the images we have are often in use on other projects. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

What goes on elsewhere goes on there. Do not overwrite images on Commons, thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Nope - you have overwritten a number of images on commons that should be reverted. I have posted on the admin board seeking review but will block you if you continue to overwrite images I'm afraid. --Herby talk thyme 12:43, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I assure you I can be far less patient than you. Do not revert any further images without community consent. A block will be my next action otherwise.--Herby talk thyme 12:47, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Indeed - I have no intention of wasting time reverting you. --Herby talk thyme 12:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I noticed your actions on File:William Harvey.jpg. I completely agree with Herbythyme here: do not overwrite a portrait done by one painter with a portrait done by somebody else. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 13:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Adding another general point, please do not attack other users in the way you describe them or your interpretetation of the motives for their actions. Assume Good Faith & so on. Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 14:12, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks by the way

for your many good contributions and uploads to Commons. I acknowledge that you stated that you were not aware of the "Don't owerwrite rule" and acted in good faith. Many of the different portraits you've uploaded are in my opinion better than the original images (meaning that I would have chosen your version to illlustrate an article), and I hope you will reupload them with different image names.

If an image is superseeded it should still be kept in the proper categories. I agree that category:People of England should be empty except for subcats, but simply removing instead of replacing categories is not the way to do it. Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 14:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

nonsense

If you don't stop immediately I will block you.  — Mike.lifeguard 18:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Galleries

When adding your version of an image to a gallery please don't remove the one you think it is superseding. All images should be listed.  — Mike.lifeguard 21:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Please be collegial in your comments

This series of comments is out of line [1] and the use of this sort of invective (cyber bully, etc) is unacceptable. If you persist in characterizing others this way, you may find your editing privileges suspended or revoked. Please review COM:MELLOW and try that approach instead of your current one. ++Lar: t/c 12:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

(refactored from my talk)Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out and give it a read. However I do not see how it is accetable (or normal) for Mike to be called me a "vandal" unwarranted, making other claims while refusing to assume good faith (doing so also in such a jaded manner) and follow me around even after I've fixed everything of the uploading mistake made. The example with the Pope gallery from my position, makes him seem like an agent provocateur... and I certainly have zero tollerance for that sort of thing, I'm just here to upload free pics and sort things into their right place. Cheers. - Thomas Gun (talk) 12:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm afraid that's not going to be good enough. You're an experienced user, you need to stop accusing Mike of things, stop futzing around with uploading different images under the same names, and so forth. All of this has been explained already. You're not going to get further warnings. ++Lar: t/c 15:38, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
