Hello, Svgalbertian/Archive!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Victoria coa.png[edit]

I noticed you added |copyvio to File:Victoria coa.png. I deleted the image but I noticed a discussion that has been going on in another image that has an AfD. I've restored this image and think it's best taken to an AfD. It's possible that the image could be in the public domain only if it's close to the original version CoA, also this is an highly used image. Feel free to explain more on my talk page. :) Bidgee (talk) 14:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Ottawa city coa.png is the discussion I seen. Wrong Victoria. ;) The CoA is for Victoria, Australia. Well just did a look on the DFAT website and it states that the CoA was granted by King George V in 1910 (Would be classed as Public Domain in Australia [PD-Australia]) but in 1973 additions were added but really doesn't say what was. Some can argue that CoA with the additions would still be in the PD since it was based on a 1910 CoA which was in the PD in 1973. My main issue is how close it is to the 1910 or 1973 image. If it's not then it could be a copyvio. Reason why I'll be interested in a community wide view on this. Bidgee (talk) 14:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

File:Flag of Nova Scotia.svg[edit]

Hello Svgalbertian,
I saw that you tried to correct the information for File:Flag of Nova Scotia.svg. Which, of course, is a very good thing. However, upon close examination of the edit history, I made an additional correction. It appears that the source of the current (although modified) image is not that of the first version of the Commons file but that of the second version of the Commons file (from the file version of 8 February 2006 9:45 and the description page edit of 8 February 2006 9:48). I reinserted the source information initially provided by the uploader of this particular image. Also, the copyright status of that image seems unclear (the source website has all sorts of images that might have been copied from elsewhere, and even if it were the original source, there doesn't seem to be any clear mention that the images are entirely freely reusable). Please feel free to complete or modify the description page again if necessary. -- Asclepias (talk) 15:31, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of Sacramento]]‎[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for your work on the Flag of Sacramento. Your work looks great! -DevinCook (talk) 22:43, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I removed your speedy on this file since you cannot claim copyright on a non-copyrightable flag. The Flag is already in the PD so all copies of the flag are that also.

See ya, Huib talk 18:24, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I can understand what you are saying but I'm not sure to say your right and I'm wrong, or the otherway.. Could you please make a COM:DR and give the same information there as you did here, I guess that would be the way to go instead of deleting it as speedy. Huib talk 19:14, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the image is not an exact reproduction. The image on Commons is a larger size, for one thing. Furthermore, the image is not eligible for copyright so it doesn't matter what PD tag is used, as long as it's PD (I've no problem replacing PD-self with PD-old). Seal of Alaska[edit]

There is a black and white version here of the Seal of Alaska, in EPS: (1). Could you please color it? Thanks. Connormah (talk) 04:03, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Montreal's Coat of Arms[edit]

I was wondering if it would be too much hassle to made the grey shield white in the image you have made for Montreal's coat of arms. Or, if you do not mind, I can make the change myself and upload it as a new version. It seems too dark for argent to my eye. Xanderliptak (talk) 13:53, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did not know the city decided upon grey for the shield, my apologies. Argent is always depicted as white, and I thought it was an exaggeration to make it that shade. Apparantly not. Xanderliptak (talk) 17:43, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Old German Roadsigns[edit]

Hi there!

I continiued your work with the old german road signs. Now I wanted to ask you if you could add the writing to these 4 signs as I don't have the font! That would be cool!! I'll do the rest of the other signs then!
