Northern Italy Relief map[edit]

Hi, I am having problems creating a map with QGIS for a specific region. To save time and a confusing explanation the information can be found at User talk:NordNordWest#Relief map regarding my request and the problem. Hope you can assist. Thanks, Ma®©usBritish [Chat] 13:58, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I've had a go with the data you suggested, but don't seem to getting the same results. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but there appear to be so many options and file extension, I don't know where to start. The full Italy map is too small to crop and enlarge without pixelating. I need to add details of Napoleonic campaigns in small areas, round Northern Italy during various engagements. Will have to consider leaving it, for now. Cheers, Ma®©usBritish [Chat] 02:11, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WIKISAGE[edit]

Hey,

I would like to inform you that I have used your image [[:File::Switzerland_relief_location_map.jpg]] at our little project: here on Wikisage.

Kind regards

--Rodejong (talk) 02:12, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information and good luck to your project. Sting (talk) 12:02, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

The area called the 'British Somaliland' was under Somali control throughout the Scramble for Africa. The Dervish State took control of Somaliland and fell in 1920. Between 1896 and 1920 they were independent from the British. Here is a link to the corresponding article on Wikipedia:[1]. Thank you. Runehelmet (talk) 16:39, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, I don't want to sound needy, but it has been a while since I commented that the Dervishes controlled the Somaliland region between 1896 and 1920. Do you mind if you will change it soon? Regards. Runehelmet (talk) 14:48, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your Isle of Man Map[edit]

Dear Sting / Eric,

I would like to use your map of the Isle of Man, for which I intend to attribute properly. Would you prefer it attributing to you as Sting or Eric Gaba? I can link to your website or to your Wikipedia page, please say which you'd prefer. I saw you said a message would be appreciated, so here I am. I am Zyra, and I can be reached by e-mail at ce@zyra.org.uk (although I have a different sender-address).

I am writing a page about the Isle of Man for my website http://www.zyra.org.uk on the section about tax havens http://www.zyra.org.uk/taxhaven.htm

I am a tax exile living in Panama, and I flew over the Isle of Man when I went from Manchester to the Dominican Republic. My fortuitous photo from the air will form part of the new page.

I'm impressed that you've got the map in different languages :-)

Kind Regards,

Zyra

Gibraltarpedia[edit]

Hi Eric. Have you heard of GibraltarpediA yet? We may need a couple new maps as the project evolves... Could I count on you to create them? Thanks, --Gibmetal 77talk 2 me 09:37, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rio de Janeiro[edit]

Hi Eric! I noticed your great work on relief maps and I must congratulate you! I would like to know if you could create a detailed SVG map of the city of Rio de Janeiro, which can be widely used as a locator map i.e. for landmarks. However, the main reason I am asking this, is because I am working on articles about the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and I am having a hard time trying to create a comprehensive map for the venues across the city. The best thing I was able to find was this map extracted from OpenStreetMap. Please, let me know if you are interested in this task. Best regards; Felipe Menegaz 02:06, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Felipe Menegaz 04:23, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

using your map of Costa Rica[edit]

Hi, I would like to use your map of Costa Rica for a scientific poster. You can reach me Cheers,

Answered. Sting (talk) 11:52, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Eric Gaba,

I write to you to ask for permission to use the map African_continent-fr.svg that you have created and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:African_continent-fr.svg

I plan to use the map as a base map for several graphite pencil drawings on paper. These drawings are created as a part of my artistic practise. I intend to credit you on the drawings but since they will become unique works of art - and not presented in digital form except as photo documentation - it is not possible for me to share it alike as demanded by the Creative Commons license.

I therefore want to ask you for permission to use the map named above freely in the artwork as described below.

The map will be used as a base map for 3 to 4 large drawings showing the approximate "borders" of a large number of polities on the African continent at the outset of the "scramble for Africa" 1884 and the following conquest by the imperial powers and counter-actions by African polities.

The work is not made on commission nor funded by grants or other parties. It is not intended for a particular art exhibition at this point but may be shown in an art gallery or art museum in the future. It may also be for sale as a unique art object or subject to applications for art grants in the future.

I do want to stress that my interest in pursuing this work is not primarily commercial. It is rather a way for me to learn more about African history and to present my interpretation to the public as a vehicle for discussions about the colonial past.

If you want to learn more about my work please visit http://jonbrunberg.com

If you have any questions in regards to my inquiry please contact me.

Best regards Jon Brunberg

Map of africa - physical features only[edit]

Hi. Can I ask you to add to your gallery the relief location map of africa, without the national borders ?

Done: File:Africa_relief_location_map-no_borders.jpg. Sting (talk) 16:01, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks !

Hello Sting!, thanks again for your improvements. The reduction of the blue channel has been a clear improvement. Regarding sRGB and AdobeRGB I am not sure. I develop all my picture always from RAW into AdobeRGB after I tried it ou some time ago and I was more convinced about the result versus sRGB. What is your experience with this subject? relief map Israel[edit]

Dear Eric, thank you so much for your work on producing the relief map of Israel. I would like to use it on a website where I'm going to place a number of articles related to the Ishmaelites/Arabs in relation to Israel. I'm also writing a book about this subject with the title Rejected and Loved. I'm also looking for a suitable map of the Middle East in a similar style that covers the area from Israel to the Persian Gulf and from Syria to Yemen. Then I will mark the areas where the descendants of Ishmael went to live in relation to Israel and other neighboring people such as the Ammonites, Moabites and Edomites and kingdom of Sheba. Thanks so much, Kees van Dieren keesvd@zonnet.nl
