Welcome[edit]

Slowdown cowboy. I strongly suggest that you take a moment to learn about what your doing. Do not ever edit a user page and or modify a word, as you did just now, as it will quickly get you banned here. You have a lot to learn, I will post some things or you to read and get up to speed, but please do not deface users pages, ever. That is not a good way to start. I am happy to help you, but you have a IMHO large learning curve here, and you need to do some reading first, ok. --WPPilot (talk) 17:24, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to deface the page. I thought I was fixing a spelling error. Also what's IMHO? And what should I begin to read? Skate Shady (talk) 17:27, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO = (in my humble opinion). Ellen is a highly regarded editor, and that was not a spelling error. I am going to post this for you to help learn more, but first tell us why you are here and what ou would like to do/contribute so that all editors can guide your efforts, ok. Thanks.

Well, I stumbled upon here a couple days ago while browsing the internet. And I started looking into it. Then I decided to look at the Picture of the Year voting thing. But, I saw that I needed 75 edits and an account to be able to vote. So I made my account (Skate Shady) and I thought, might as well make those 75 edits worthwhile. So now I'm just looking for help as to what I can do here on the Common's other than upload pictures. Does that help? Thanks, Skate Shady (talk) 17:37, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that does help. Commons is, as you noticed a place for images. You can upload quality images, and get objective comments from others regarding your contributions. Commons is a small part of the big picture of Wikipedia. The adventure below will help guide you into understanding what it is you can do on the collective projects, and how to be a good editor. Only edit/ask for help etc on the talk pages. Find projects, (like Skate Boards) that are of interest to you, and improve them. Contribute your best photos to them, once you learn about editing here. At the top of this page is a great deal--WPPilot (talk) 17:43, 30 January 2015 (UTC) of information that will also help you understand what goes on, here on Commons.[reply]

Alrighty, I really do appreciate your help. I also saw that you're a pilot. My uncle is planning on teaching me how to fly soon as a birthday present on Sunday. Skate Shady (talk) 17:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Skate Shady, you are invited on a Wikipedia Adventure![edit]

Flying[edit]

https://vimeo.com/118304340 The music might be a bit old school for you, but I am sure you will enjoy the video. --WPPilot (talk) 00:35, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lessons[edit]

I stay pretty busy and travel a lot so I have a few tasks listed for you on my talk page. I am going to switch you from commons to what we will call EN or the English Wikipedia pages, during these lessons, so you get up to speed quickly and have others that you can reach out to, when I am unavailable. You have 2 lessons posted now, do your homework and get back to me. enjoy: -WPPilot unicomm 123.0

Alright dude (If it's okay I call you that), But just so you know, I do Virtual School. So I'll have to work on my classes during the weekdays, but I'll still find time to work on your assignments. Thanks, Skate Shady (talk) 13:26, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You must be from California and your welcome to call me Dude, if you like, but in the context of this site, we (the editors like myself) most the time refer to the other user in the second tense of the user name, I.E. you would be "Shady" and you would refer to me as "Pilot". Think of this as a hobby and nothing more, your school is always first and should remain that way until you have a degree & your pilots license. --WPPilot (talk) 15:51, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Totally understand, and nah, I'm from Florida. Born in North Carolina though. And yeah, I'll only refer to you as dude at some points. But for the most part I'll refer to you as Pilot. As to the other users here that I can go to when needing help, do you think you could add a list of them for me? Thanks, Skate Shady (talk) 15:56, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notes on uploaded photos[edit]

Your second assignment will get you in with other editors on the village pump, & the other help desks. You are already doing a great job, as far as the site goes.

Another way that you can contribute and gain edits here on commons, would also help with regard to the copyright issue, would be to go on to the talk page, of the picture you posted and explain it. Tell users how you got the shot, what your inspiration was and perhaps how you set it up. Do that on the photo you uploaded and I adjusted for you and also explain the edits that I made, and how you submitted it to the photo board reached out to me and the like. --WPPilot (talk) 16:01, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@WPPilot: How far into detail should I go? And I'm also trying out the pinging thing.Skate Shady (talk) 16:20, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I messed up on that talk page, and I don't even know where the problem is or how to fix it. For some reason, it has your userpage on it.Skate Shady (talk) 16:37, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your error[edit]

What you did was to use a include remark Template:Xx rather then a ref to my name xx Be careful with your keyboard. --WPPilot (talk) 16:40, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. How's the story on the talk page look. Is there more that needs to added?Skate Shady (talk) 16:44, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That looks good, do not forget to sigh your posts.--WPPilot (talk) 16:43, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@WPPilot: I've uploaded my second photo. I acquired the laceration after slipping and cut my hand on a homemade ramp (built by me) It's actually a funny story. Let me know if you ever want to hear it. Skate Shady (talk) 17:06, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Shady, I see the photo and am not sure that it is of value here really. Let me elaborate: I, as a professional ALWAYS consider the value and a destination, for my work. The focus on the photo is off, and it really has little use to others, but I would love to hear the story. I have a whole series of nice scar stories of my own with the scars to match :) ... Cheers. --WPPilot (talk) 13:17, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't want to have something that isn't of use to others on here. The only reason I uploaded it was because I noticed a lack of these kinds of photos here. Do you think you could ask for it to be deleted for me?Skate Shady (talk) 13:21, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Don't concern yourself with removing it now, just study how to get good pictures. Learn about light, exposure and focus. Remember by default best light in early AM, remember to have the sun at your back and learn how to adjust values (brightness, contrast, color balance and vibrancy are the most common adjustments). Stick to your homework for now, as I have in my minds eye a series of places that your going to contribute to shortly. --WPPilot (talk) 15:14, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You already have it figured out. Your a quick study, well done & keep up the good work. --WPPilot (talk) 15:16, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@WPPilot: Do you mean my actual homework or the homework you gave me? Skate Shady (talk) 15:41, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
