Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Siwibegewp!

-- Wikimedia Commons Welcome (talk) 06:09, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

-- Ies (talk) 19:21, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Die nächste Veränderung, vor allem mit der Begründung "weil ich da wohne", also OR, führt zur VM. --Siwibegewp (talk) 19:22, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Daphne Lantier: Please explain to me: a) why is reverting an image description to it's origin an edit war? The user who changed the description changed it because of his original research. b) which personal attack am I accused of? --Siwibegewp (talk) 21:43, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing to revert is edit-warring. You should have discussed it on the image's talk, Ies's talk, or, like Ies, stop reverting and bring it to COM:AN/U. As for the personal attack, "Knowing a location - as you claim - is certainly not a reason to falsify an image description, as you did", is an unacceptable and spurious accusation. Daphne Lantier 21:51, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Obviously there are different rules on Commons comparing to de-WP. On de-WP, continued OR (as done by Ies) can be reverted as vandalism without talk, as well as falsifying articles (as done by Ies). On de-WP, one has to name that this way. Nevertheless, I accept the lock, because I didn't know the Commons rules. As you say in German: "Unwissenheit schützt vor Strafe nicht". And, of course, more formal: I don't know which the page to apply a de-lock on Commons is. It would take me a lot of time to find out. This time I can invest on improving articles on deWP --Siwibegewp (talk) 21:58, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS.: @Daphne Lantier: Is OR allowed on Commons? To date, I thought it was forbidden on every Wiki project. --Siwibegewp (talk) 22:16, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It depends on the subject. If the subject is a flag, a map, or a coat of arms, then sources are usually needed to determine official colors, borders, etc. Descriptions of photos are quite different. We want to have the best description possible, but with 40 million files and growing, direct referencing of the description of each file would be impractical at best. We also have geo coordinates from most newer cameras that gives the general location where a photo was taken. We depend a lot on editors who live in certain areas who help to refine categories and give closer and more detailed descriptions for images of their home town, city, village, etc. Daphne Lantier 02:18, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:Symbolkeepvote22.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
