Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Robertson's Landmarks of Toronto[edit]

Toronto neighbourhood maps[edit]

The neighbourhood maps you have been doing are fantastic -- so much better than the previous locator maps. I do question the validity of this one though -- there is more than one definition of Greektown (usually described as either the commercial strip along the Danforth, or an overlay over neighbourhoods on both sides of the Danforth). Living in the area, I've never ever heard it refer solely to some residential areas on one side of the street, though. --skeezix1000 (talk) 13:32, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It just goes to show you, as you know, that the Star and City mapping needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That area south of East York, north of Danforth, east of Playter Estates and west of Pape (or Donlands, depending on who you are talking to) doesn't really have a name. I've heard everything from Riverdale North, Greektown, Danforth Village -- none of which are really accurate. The Star just gave up and created a ridiculous "neighbourhood" extending all the way past Main Stret called "The Danforth" (sure, it's the Danforth, but so is Playter Estates -- i.e. the overlap issue). UofT buildings[edit]

I don't think that Category:University of Toronto buildings needs to be categorized in the main Toronto buildings and structures cat, due to COM:OVERCAT. Category:Universities and colleges in Toronto is already a subcat of the main buildings and structures cat. --skeezix1000 (talk) 17:09, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know this has been resolved a while ago but I just want to leave a comment for the record: The Category:University of Toronto buildings was made necessary in the first place because many new subcategories, some with just two pics, were being created for individual buildings of University of Toronto (I didn't create those subcats, others did). Thus Category:University of Toronto buildings needs to be kept to prevent those subcats of buildings from overwhelming the parent category (in addition to the logical reason that institution and buildings are different things). Many university cats such as Category:Cornell University are organized with similar university building categories for the same reason. It seems that COM:OVERCAT has already been fixed now by removing Category:University of Toronto buildings from Category:Buildings and structures in Toronto, so no further action is required. If you still have the flickrmail of the flickr owner giving permission for the use of this image on your flickr account, please E-mail it to "permissions-commons wikimedia.org" and include a web link to the original flickr picture (or your original flickrmail to Tyler Greelneaf whicxh refers to the flickrmail) It would be nice if you could also include a link to the image on Commons here.   • Try including a screen shot of the message giving permission for the use of that image, add a link for the exact Commons image here where it applies to and send it to: permissions-commons wikimedia.org as I noted. I am not an Admin (just a trusted user who marks flickr & panoramios/ipernity images) but I know that some images have had their permission messages archived or OTRS'ed this way via a screenshot. I had one image OTRS'ed this way. Its surely worth a try. And if you do something wrong, an Admin who deals with OTRS issues will tell you what else to do. You got this one wrongly located. It is the Little Trinity Rectory, built in 1854 by Cumberland and Storm Architects on King Street East, just west of Little Trinity Church. I have changed the description and category but it needs to be renamed. Secondarywaltz (talk)

Try and sort this out...[edit]

Hi. According to www.tobuilt.ca, File:Moffat, Murray and Company.JPG is actually the John Crawford Block, while File:John Crawford Block.JPG is the John Hagerty Building (left) and William Cawthra Building (right). Meanwhile, Moffat, Murray and Company is next door to these buildings. tobuilt could be wrong. I just wanted to make sure they were properly described in the image descriptions, so if you have further information, that would be great. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A heads-up[edit]

You took photos of the Paradise Theatre (Toronto). Would you be amenable to renaming the category from Category:Paradise Cinema to Category:Paradise Theatre?

I am considering going to the opening, today. If this is in your neighbourhood are you considering going too? If so, maybe I will see you there. So far Joshua Boyle is the only wikipedian I have met, in real life.
