Hi. I have deleted the faulty heimlich image. Did you create these images? Nice work! -- Chris 73 23:49, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thank you very much ! As always, I'm impressed by the swiftness of the Wikipedia projects. :)
Yes I did draw the image, but I should have documented better first. :/ Hopefully the other ones should be more correct. Thanks again ! Rama 00:28, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I also added Image created by User:Rama to your images. GFDL gives credit to the creator. -- Chris 73 01:24, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Thank you very much, you are most helpful ! Rama 08:09, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Fair use[edit]

Hi, I see you are uploading files whit the label "Fair use". Fair use is not a good licence on commons. The will be deleted. Walter 15:39, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

These pictures have now been deleted. Please do not upload fair use images here.--Eloquence 18:46, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Now I understand why there images kept dispearing from the article. Sorry for the mistake and taking your time, and thank you for sorting this out ! Rama 07:52, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Copyrighted images[edit]

Hello Rama, you´ve uploaded around 40 photos from netmarine.net as GFDL even though they are apparently copyrighted (marked with (c) and names of different authors). Such images will be deleted on the commons because netmarine.net doesn´t allow free distribution. What you did was not even fair use, it was a clear copyvio. So please stop uploading copyrighted images and pay attention to the information about licensing in the future. Thanx a lot and no offense. --:Bdk: 23:24, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Deleted all these images now. You will find the filenames as an overview in Special:Log/delete. --:Bdk: 00:19, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I had the specific autorisation from the authors of the photographs [1]. I suppose there is no way to easily retrieve the delected material now, of course ? I think I really need to put some more visible notice that comment should be made to my talk page on Wikipedia English, this might prevent some waste of time. Rama 19:43, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hello Rama, thanx for your reaction. It would be very good to include all the needed information in the image description page, so you still have to add the name of the author imo and more information about the authorization. I´ve seen that you´ve uploaded new images without the mistakable copyright line, this looks much better and commons-like :-) Perhaps a special template for these photos could also be useful. Otherwise it would be reasonable to offer an own and protected licence authorization page with proper information e.g. User:Rama/Authorization_for_netmarine.net_images (needs to exist as long as the photos are stored here) and link it from every photo. Anyway, it is better to store all the needed licence information in the description page itself ... Regards :Bdk: 20:29, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I left my comment on your English talk page. --Ikiwaner 19:03, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Besides: It would be nice to know which languages you speak (write). Please insert some language templates on your user page. Thx --Ikiwaner 19:06, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Please don't hide your images[edit]

Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you.

The above is a broiler-plate message I put on talk pages of people who do not categorizer their images. However, I would like to thank you especially for all the great drawings you provide to the commons and the wikipedias - they are really excelent! Probably some people will take offense in the sex pictures, but i like them. The First-aid pictures are excelent, too - some month ago I was looking hard for stuff like that on the wikipedias and did not find much... so, thanks again, but it would be even better if you would put those images on pages/categories, so they can be found by other users. For the sex-position drawings, i would suggest Category:Sex, for the first-aid-pictures, use Category:First Aid. Regards, -- Duesentrieb 17:00, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

That's under processing. For the Marine Nationale photographs, I'll also gradually add more complete informations as to whom is the author and such. Thanks for the suggestions of cathegories for the others ! Cheers ! Rama 20:47, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 15:09, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Translation[edit]

Seeing the impressive language tags on your page, I want to ask you to help with a translation. Would you be so kind as to create a french version of MediaWiki:Fileuploaded? That'S the message shown after a file has been uploaded, i changed it so it helps to avoid bad licenses and unsorted images. The translation is suposed to go to MediaWiki:Fileuploaded/fr, but i'm not sure if non-admins can create that page. If you can't, just post the treanslation to my talk page.

Thank you very much! -- Duesentrieb 15:09, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Wow, that was quick! Thank you very much! -- Duesentrieb 16:13, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi Rama, Duesentrieb told me that you are some kind of genius in many Languages, Gegeours is uploading a lot of Images without giving a Source and a Licence. At least he reacted to the messages on his Talk page recently, but he seems to be speaking only french. Could you please tell him about copyright tags and the importance of giving a Source. Thanks. -guety 22:22, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks a million. -guety 01:18, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

CeCILL[edit]

French Navy[edit]

Hi, you've found really great photos. One thing: according to international classification, Georges Leygues (or F70?), Cassard, Suffren and Tourville classes are destroyers (letter D..., by the way). Therefore I've changed some of descriptions to "destroyers". Are they classified as frigates in French? By the way: is Georges Leygues divided into two sub-classes, as the have different superstructures? Pibwl 00:19, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

..Right, I haven't noticed your message as I was writing :-) But calling them frigates in English text might confuse readers. Pibwl 00:22, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

That ship behind Cassard won't be Jean Bart, but some F70 destroyer (Jean Bart is identical as Cassard, what confirms a beautiful photo Image:Suffren 3.jpg). As for La Motte Piquet - well, I just guessed looking at its superstructure and foremast on other photos... But to be honest, I don't know how a mast of Latouche-Treville look like. Pibwl 00:38, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I understand that... Actually my main concern is with keeping consistant with the translation. What about putting as a note the fact that they are internationally classified as destroyer, though the French classification is "frigate" (perhaps I'll try to check that out with Navy officers too...) ?
Intersting question about the superstructures :p I know that the Montcalm has been modernised in 2000: the air sentry radar switched from DRBV51 to a air/surface sentry DRBV15; also, there was a massive improvement in the air defence capabilities, notably an observatory for visual air observation (upon the bridge), short-range air missiles, and replacement of the 20mm cannons by 30mm.
From the photographs, a possible explaination would be that the Dupleix [2], the Jean de Vienne [3], the Montcalm[4] and the Georges Leygues[5] have already had these modification, while the Primauguet [6], La Motte-Picquet [7] and the Latouche Tréville [8] have not (yet (? (the photographs are several year old :p))).
I am quite positive about the identification of Jean Bart, but I cheated, since I had other photographs ! ;) Have a look at Image:Foudre.jpg and Image:Cassard-Jean_Bart2.jpg. Actually the trickiest to identify was the Dupleix :p
Cheers ! Rama 01:10, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
UPDATE Of course you're right, I mistagged my pictures ! shame shame shame ! D643 is the Jean de Vienne, of course ! :p Silly me ! ^^;;
..But I'm amazed, how did you manage to tell apart Jean de Vienne, Montcalm and Dupleix?!
What do you say about such compromise descriptions: Image:Motte-Picquet-Profil.jpg?
BTW, I wrote in English La Motte-Piquet, because it seems "La" is a part of name.
BTW2: I think, that Image:FS Etoile.jpg is a (beautiful) schooner, not brig? Pibwl 20:45, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Well, hull numbers, of course ! Perhaps I've forgotten to upload all the photographs which allowed me to identify the Montcalm and Dupleix; Jean de Vienne is quite clear from Image:Foudre.jpg. I'll make sure I upload the other photographs. I Also, Netmarine has lots of useful information; for instance, I knew from [9] that the F70 type frigates based in Toulon were La Motte Picquet, Jean de Vienne, Montcalm and Dupleix, this also helped.
Yes, I'm very happy with what you wrote in Image:Motte-Picquet-Profil.jpg. Actually I was just a little bit nervous for the translation thing, sorry for being tedious ! :p
Yes that's right, La Motte Picquet is named after Toussaint-Guillaume Picquet de la Motte; so his nobility name was indeed "La Motte", and "Picquet" is his family name.
As for the schooner/brig, you probably know better than me. The French word is goélette, but I've not really managed to find the correct translation into English. Feel free to correct ! Cheers ! Rama 10:38, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, could you provide a source URL for Image:MilChapPope.jpg? Thanks. --Baikonur 09:33, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I took it from the English Wikipedia, I'll make some inquieries there and let youu know. Cheers ! Rama 10:53, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

en:User:Husnock, who originally posted the image, says (see en:User_talk:Husnock#Military_Pope_Image):

That image was e-mailed to me by a Lieutenant Chaplain in the U.S. Naval Reserve. For obvious privacy reasons, I cannot post his personal e-mail address on Wikipedia for interested parties to contact him as to where he got in from. However, he stated in the e-mail it was released by the Chief of Chaplains office in Wasington, DC. I imagine the photo was cropped from some other source, but it is verified, by me, as coming from the U.S. Navy since it was a navy.mil account on which I recieved it.

I hope that this is sufficient. Rama 22:44, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Moving images[edit]

Hi, when you transfer images from german Wikipedia to WikiCommons, please remember to also add who uploaded the image there and when. Image:A380 Reveal 2.jpg also has a description, name of photographer and a date. Thuresson 07:22, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Human Body[edit]

Hi - as I know you for your great drawings, I'll ask you: there has been a request on the german Wikipedia for simple blank drawings of the human body (see de:Wikipedia:Ich_brauche_Hilfe#Linienzeichnung menschlicher Körper) that could be used as a template for illustrating anatomy articles. It should look something like Image:Human.png, but in a more neutral position, separate for male and femal, and the backside would be good too. If you would do this, please drop a note in the german wikipedia.

Oh, by the way: would you consider to dual-license your images with CC-by-sa? This would make reusing your pictures outside the wikipedia easier. Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 09:44, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have tried to find de:Wikipedia:Ich_brauche_Hilfe#Linienzeichnung menschlicher Körper but I am afraid that the topic is since gone. In any case, I will do that when I find some time to draw (perhaps draw women and men from back and front... I am a little bit afraid of "ethnic" questions, but I'm confident that I'll find a way in time :p).
As for the licence, I am quite ready to licence my data under Cc-by-sa-2.0-fr.
However, I have to underline that I am not willing to license my works under any license which would inherit of the US legal framework.
Thank you for your consideration, I'll drop you a message when I am done with these drawings ! Rama 17:08, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! The request was archived, here it is: de:Wikipedia:Ich_brauche_Hilfe/Archiv/2005/April/6#Linienzeichnung_menschlicher_Körper. The user who requested the drawing was de:User:Neitram, maybe drop him a line, he can probably explain in more detail what he had in mind.
About the license: Cc-by-sa-2.0-fr would be fine i guess, you can add the free art license or whatever too, multiple license are no problem AFAIK. Cc-by-sa-2.0-de would be perfect for the german wp, but as the drawing would probably be used else where too, it's not really important - important is generally to add a license that allows easier use than the GFDL, which requires the full license text, which is impractical for print media (this applies to all images, so spread the word...). CC is well known and easy to handle, so I advocate to license everything under CC.
Thanks again, regards -- Duesentrieb 18:39, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks! -- Duesentrieb 10:43, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a Cray-1[edit]

You have uploaded images of what you have labled as a Cray-1. These are actually pictures of a Cray X-MP. You can tell this because the image of the control panel shows four CPU switches, the X-MP was basically a four Cray-1's packed into a single case. You can also just make out the X-MP in the sign in the main image.

Please fix these images. We'll need to get some other ones of the Cray-1, but in the meantime you could put these on the Cray X-MP page, which I will be fleshing out shortly.

Is there some way to link my sig back to wikipedia rather than the account here?

Wilhelm Canaris[edit]

Hi, apparently you found this photo on en:. Do you have any other source for claiming it is public domain? The license tag on en: is incorrect and will be deleted soon, since German copyright protects a photo for life of photographer + 70 years. Thuresson 03:50, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh, then it is a mistake on my part. I just made a short investigation: the photograph was taken by Juanita "Tita" Binz (1903-1970) between 1935 and 1939 [13] and [14]. Since the photograph seems to be now in the possession of the Bildarchiv - Deutsches Historisches Museum GmbH, I assume that it was not made pubilc domain by the Allies at the end of the war, and should indeed by removed.
My appologies. Rama 14:45, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
PS and note to self: there is an image on the web site of the FBI: [15]; if someone can contact there gentlemen and ask them about the copyright status of tis one, it could be better than noting. R.

NetMarine.net[edit]

Bonne continuation ! Rama 06:38, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely sure.
There is a line of relaxing vibrators shaped like well-known rubber ducks available at Beate Uhse, wither "normal" ones, or fantasy ones with BDMS or Devil themes. This one happens to be a "travel" one -smaller, takes AAA batteries instead of AA.
I might be able to produce more photographs of this duck (controls and batteries, for instance), or even take a photograph of the different sorts of vibrators still in their packages, if necessary.

Hi ! Thank you, very nice of you !
Actually, my photo being covered under Free licences, you do not really need my explicit approval, you can upload it and put something like "Original work by Rama, additional work by Fg2". But I appreciate your niceness ! :)
Actually, I sort of like he triangle, I am a bit under the impression that it reinforces the diagonale... But that's so subjective ! :p Perhaps you could add your image on the Featured image discussion page for this photo, suggest your version there, and see how it flies ! :)

Hi Rama, i reverted your last edit in Template:english, because it deformed thousands of pages, which used this template in the previous version. I don't think, it's a good idea to edit a such often used template in this way. Regards, norro 16:13, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously. I meant to create a {{en2}} and founf myself editing this one (same for {{fr}}). I need a holiday :p Sorry for the trouble. Rama 17:08, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain this user that he/she must add copyrights tag(s) (preferable {{PD-user}}) to and categorize images? I deduced that he/she knows French from it:Utente:Lalupa. Thank you. --EugeneZelenko 01:49, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

(Ouuuuuh !) Ceridwen 23:13, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your pictures made in louvre[edit]

I've have seen that you have uploaded many picture made in louvre of mediaval and antique items. Me and some other german wikipedians are very interested on your pictures to illustrate some articles. But without any description what is seen on picture the pictures are not usable. Because this my questions: will you describe the picture? In my Opinion it's a must to use your picture. Greets --Finanzer 00:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am in the process of doing so, but since there are quite a bunch of them, it takes some time. A friend of mine will also be working on the subject. If some of these images are more needed than others, feel free to drop me a line and I will put them on the top of the list. Cheers ! Rama 08:39, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Pompiers lausanne 2.jpg[edit]

Hi Rama,

for a new website about emergency services cars and trucks, I wanna make use of your Image:Pompiers lausanne 2.jpg. Thus, it would be very helpful for me if you would just take some two minutes of your time and write your real name into my discussion page or so. Then I can credit your picture properly.

Many thanks in advance! Cheers, de:Hamburger

Bah, just mention "Rama", and put a link to the page of Commons if you wish to. This would be credited enough by my standards. Good luck with the new website then ! Rama 17:33, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gradiva_1.jpg[edit]

Hello. We are going to publish an article on Gradiva in a Finnish psychoanalytic journal. Can we use this image mentioned? The terms of usage? I'm rather confused with these copyright issues -- and I read absolument none French.

Yes absolutely. You can use this licence, which is the most convenient one. Don't hesitate to ask me if you have a question. Cheers ! Rama 18:15, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Merci.
Bonne continuation !
Yes, "Rama" is fine. The most important thing is to specify that the photo is Free, for instance with a little "Photo under the Commons licence Cc-by-sa-fr" (so if somoone want to photocopy the photo from your paper, he knows that he is allowed to ;) ). This can be done in small prints at the bottom of the article, in a footnote, as you wish. The idea is to make life simple for you, not to complicate it: I see you using this picture as a good thing ! :)
Do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. Cheers ! Rama 21:09, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Danke![edit]

Rama 16:23, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Roman Bireme/Trireme[edit]

Hi.

Image:Trireme 1.jpg, according to your description, depicts a trireme, but it looks more like a bireme. could you check?--Panairjdde 09:39, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it has two ranks of oars. I think that I was confused when I labelled it, feel free to correct anywhere you see fit. Thank you for noticing the glinch ! Rama 09:55, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilivre de photographie[edit]

Bonjour,

Jean-Jacques MILAN 19:01, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Karcher*.jpg[edit]

Hi, please note that the images Karcher*.jpg in Category:Kaercher shows no Kärcher, but a Wap. --Avatar 13:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is known; it is intented the illustrate the colloquial usage of "kaercher" as "high-pressure cleaning device". If this poses a problem, I think that it will be possible to move the images. The Wikipedia article about Kaercher has already switched to the most accurate photo. Thanks and cheers ! Rama 13:31, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Suppression de photos[edit]

Bonjour,

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Eglise_saint-nizier.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Nizier.jpg

Rama 09:30, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lumix FZ20 (your message of yesterday)[edit]

Lumix FZ20

Hello, take a look at this picture (taken by the Lumix itself in a mirror). If it is not good enough, I can start a try with the FinePix F10, but I'm waiting for better daylight - Best regards --Joachim Köhler 10:40, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, excellent ! I could have though of that myself... I am a bit stupid sometimes ! Thank you very much ! Rama 13:26, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bouseux-helevtiques-p1000764.jpg[edit]

Is there any special reason why you used slightly pejorative words (bouseux, redneck, pequenot, ) to name and describe this image ? Schutz 15:48, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No. Rama 16:39, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
So you would probably not mind if they were changed ? In any case, there is a typo in the title (helevtiques vs helvetiques); would it be possible to move the image to e.g. danse-helvetique-p10000764.jpg, or anything with the correct spelling and no pejorative work ? I can take care of the descriptions. Schutz 22:08, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. To change the name, you will need to download the files and re-upload them under the new name. Let me know when you are done with this and I can erase the original files. It would also be a good idea to check where these files are used -- I know that some are used at least on the English Wikipedia; I'll try to check and fix what I see, but better safe than sorry. Thank you. Rama 08:26, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Done, new name is Image:Danse-helvetique-p1000764.jpg. The only link from en: was from Switzerland, which I corrected already. Nothing from de: and fr:. Thanks, Schutz 15:36, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, can you erase the old file now that the new one has been uploaded ? Thanks in advance. Schutz 01:38, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, may I ask you for drawing images of woman-man fellatio and cunnilingus? We've got a question why these activities are depicted as homosexual ones. Thank you very much. Miraceti 11:49, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Assume PD for Images older than 100 years[edit]

Hi - I have put a clarified version of the proposal at Commons_talk:Licensing#Assume PD for Images older than 100 years. I belive much confusion arose because I chose a bad title for the discussion. Please have another look -- Duesentrieb(?!) 22:00, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dirk Nowitzki picture[edit]

Hey man, why did you delete the picture of Dirk Nowitzki? --85.74.42.231 22:42, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This image was very probably a copyright violation. Commons has very strict policies regarding copyright, I invite you to read Commons:Licensing before uploading; do not hesitate to ask me for advice if you need help (I might not know everything, but I will probably be able to contact experts knowledgeable even for some tricky cases), but in doubt, please refrain from uploading images. Thank you. Rama 12:10, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Willy on Wheels vandalism.[edit]

Hi, could you as admin please take some action against this vandal: Special:Contributions/WoW_on_WoW_on_WoW? I already reverted his changes but he might need blocking...

thanks Lycaon 20:51, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thank you, it is the first time that I get to block a Willy ! :) Rama 21:21, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much ! Do you maintain your opposition on the Featured candidacy ? I just ask because the reason you did so is now out of actuality (but if you oppose for another reason I will be happy to learn something :) ). Cheers ! Rama 16:35, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote a lengthy paragraph and apparently forgot to submit, will try again later... --Dschwen 14:35, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
