Did you know photo[edit]

Congrat's on your Did You Know photo on the main page today! Faolin42 (talk) 00:41, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! New London has long been one of my favorites, so it was a real treat to get it to DYK. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:20, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mine too.JJBers (talk) 20:16, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merci, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 18:21, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Photographer's Barnstar
I just don't know how many times have I found an article in my local area without a photo of your's on it. Thank you so much! — JJBers|talk 02:04, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your deletion of the copyvio File:Traffic for the term fake news.jpg.

Could you please have a look, and maybe take admin action, at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#User_Crossswords ?

Thank you ! Sagecandor (talk) 17:36, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sagecandor: : I can only speak to File:Traffic for the term fake news.jpg (an obvious copyvio) and File:Gdp per capita shown in Western Deutsche Mark for the year 1965 in a western german schoolbook.png (not a copyvio so far as I can tell, but I cannot speak for the accuracy of the information). They do appear to be behaving badly, but since those two images are my only interaction with them, I don't think I have much to add there. I'm a fairly new admin and my admin experience is mostly with simple copyvios and not problematic user behavior; the more experienced admins who frequent AN/U will be able to make a better judgement than I. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 18:02, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay no problem thank you. Sagecandor (talk) 18:04, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks[edit]

Hi I am victim from personal attacks from users but my noticeboard haven't been treated. Could you help me ? Regards. --Panam2014 (talk) 13:02, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pannam2014: I am not a regular on AN/U, nor do I speak more than a few words of French, so I don't think there's anything I can do for you here. There is a list of Francophone admins here. Regards, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 14:58, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your Message[edit]

I posted a reply to your message here Personally perhaps Zhuyifei1999 could do what you suggest. But just read my message. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:42, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fort Lee, Virgina[edit]

Greetings Pi! I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know I recreated Category:Fort Lee, Virgina as a category redirect to Category:Fort Lee, Virginia. I saw you deleted it back in November as an empty category but today I found a bunch of files in it. Since it is a common typo I recreated it as a category redirect. I hope you don't mind. Reguyla (talk) 22:23, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reguyla had brought this up in chat... it's a 'bad name', yes, but it's one that is quite likely to be present in media that is automatically imported. It's worth keeping the redirect, in this case, so that RussBot will move such media to the right place. Reventtalk 22:29, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you both for the note. I generally err on the side of deleting category redirects, but this makes a lot of sense. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:35, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year, Pi.1415926535![edit]

File:Ardmore route tram, December 1966.jpg[edit]

So none of the houses are clues to the location? I feel like doing a GSV scan of the Ardmore Busway just to be sure. ----DanTD (talk) 16:19, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They may be, but I don't know the area enough for a conclusive match, and until we have one it should stay in the unidentified locations cat. My best bet is here. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:33, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case, then so be it. But you have to admit, there are way too many images in the unidentified locations category. This image for example was taken by a guy from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and judging by his Panoramio page he used to take a lot of them from the vicinity. Every now and then, I try to look for some there that can be narrowed down. ----DanTD (talk) 13:52, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, there certainly are. Some of them are probably permanently unidentifiable (and perhaps eventually we'll shuffle them off to a hidden category), but many simply need someone to do a little research. I just knocked seven off pretty quickly - several with enough identifying info in the file name, several already identified by not removed from the category, and several where looking at the flickr set gave me clues. (I'm pretty proud of File:Metroliner (NYC 1972).jpg - my intuition said North River Tunnels, and flickr confirmed). And many are okay if they're never identified, particularly the ones that simply serve as a record of what a locomotive class looked like. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:37, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That was certainly a good one to narrow down. File:EL 3319 November 1978 (22348670758).jpg was a good one to knock off too, and I'm kind of mad at myself for not scrapping that one. Today, I did File:ChrisLitherlandDR.jpg after the location seemed too obvious to me. Sadly there are still some Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North scenes I'm still wondering about, but the Oregon Talgo train images seem to require some investigation, which could be a lot easier than many of the Drew Jacksich images from the middle of some random mountain ranges. ----DanTD (talk) 14:52, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please clarify how this rename is in compliance with our renaming guidelines.    FDMS  4    12:12, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@FDMS4: I believe my rename meets both criteria 2 and 3. The proper name of the service is Keystone Service, not Keystone; Keystone is a name that has been given to several completely different trains. Even discounting the issue of the proper name, the former filename was very ambiguous; it was uploaded at a time when descriptive filenames were not considered nearly as important as they are now. "Keystone Train" could also mean any of the three former Keystone trains, the one-off equipment built for one of them, other trains on the Keystone Corridor (including other Amtrak trains or Norfolk Southern freights), a train passing through any of the half-dozen communities in the US named "Keystone" that have or had rail lines... The current name specifies the exact subject, a specific detail (the Metroliner cab car) meriting notice, the location, and the date - none of which were given by the old name. Image deletions[edit]

Hi Pi, Sorry to be a pain - Remember those Moffatt bus images you deleted at DR?, Could undelete them all and close them as Keep please?,
I recently nominated more of them - All of which were closed as Keep by 2 different admins - Apparently my reasons weren't valid (I disagree entirely but I'd rather not rant about it but to save future shit with you and I it's probably best they're all undeleted),
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 22:44, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Davey2010: I am potentially willing to do so; however, I cannot easily find them. Can you give me the links to the files or the DR? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:58, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pi,
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Moffat & Williamson (6203375179).jpg & Commons:Deletion requests/File:Moffat & Willamson MX58KZN (14632812412).jpg
For some reason I thought you deleted more but maybe not?, Thanks,–Davey2010Talk 23:03, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Davey2010: I was not the deleting admin on either of those; that was P199. I tend to fall on the side of deleting poor-quality images that are fully replaced and have no separate value as being out of scope, so I don't think I'm the right person to ask here. My apologies. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:10, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh shit sorry wrong admin! , Having searched "Pi" your name cropped up & thought BINGO!!! ... clearly I was wrong , Thanks for pointing me to the correct admin lol, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:16, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Have a good one. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:19, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Pi, You too, –Davey2010Talk 23:25, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lehigh Valley Transit Streetcar Slides[edit]

Sorry was unaware of what you wrote in the deletion notice. Apologies Atwngirl (talk) 04:24, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Atwngirl: A great many of the images you have uploaded are likely also under copyright for this same reason. I would strongly recommend that you not upload images that you do not own the copyright for unless either:
  • The image was produced before 1897 (120-year rule) and is thus unambiguously in the public domain
  • You have clear proof that the author of the image died before 1947 (70-year rule)
  • You have clear proof that the work was in fact publicly published before 1977 without a copyright notice. Stock certificates, maps, timetables, tickets, postcards (if you have an image of the reverse), etc - documents like these are considered to be published for the purposes of copyright. Slides in a private collection like you have been uploading are generally considered not to have been previously published and are thus still under copyright.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 15:36, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage Fleet baggage cars[edit]

Strictly speaking, "Heritage Fleet" means cars put through the HEP conversion program. File:AMTRAK TRAIN BACKS UP TO HOOK UP WITH PASSENGER CARS AT HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. THIS TRAIN THEN WILL CONTINUE ON TO... - NARA - 556846.jpg probably doesn't depict one. We don't have an on-wiki term to capture these. Simon & Warner distinguish between "Steam heat" rolling stock and "Heritage Fleet", starting sometime in the mid- to late-1970s. Mackensen (talk) 00:26, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Mackensen: Thanks for catching that. I finally got around to creating Category:Baggage cars of Amtrak. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:23, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I had a feeling that the Amtrak train in this image was part of the Empire Service, but I never saw a category for any of those routes, and I was hoping for one that was a little more specific (Maple Leaf, Lake Shore Limited, Ethan Allen Express, Adirondack, or what not). ----DanTD (talk) 20:34, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The opposite of the above section :). You kept the file in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Sur la riviere.jpg but you deleted it [1]. -- Asclepias (talk) 20:06, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rahul Bott and Asclepias: My apologies, and thanks for bringing these to my attention. I have fixed both my errors. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:23, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Closing both[edit]

Hi! As you closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Rape in Sweden after background.png could you perhaps do the same with the identical Commons:Deletion requests/File:Valdtakter efter bakgrund.png as well. // Liftarn (talk) 11:58, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Liftarn: Looks like it got deleted before I could get to it. Please let me know if you find any other images from that blog on Commons. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 06:18, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:Jessica_Di_Biase_2017.jpg deleted or no?[edit]

I think I may be confused. Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Jessica_Di_Biase_2017.jpg says Deleted: per nomination (from you, 8th October)... but I still see the file. I don't see evidence of a sneaky reupload, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place. Am I missing something, please? Pinkbeast (talk) 03:59, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ack, sorry. My mistake when closing a bunch of noms. I've now deleted it, and thanks for bringing it to my attention! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 07:20, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
