PD-MORS[edit]

Ja, I made a mistake. What description do you propose. I have already change from public domain to "Copyrighted free use provided that". Do you think is it OK now? Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 04:52, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about template now? Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:16, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Catgeory PD-EEA[edit]

Hello,

I have created this template and category after the request on a wikipedian on the Village Pump on fr:, as I am a bit more used to Commons than he is. I have no particular interest myself in pictures from the EEA but he said he will be using it shortly. To contact him : User:Tvpm.

Cheers ! le Korrigan bla 09:03, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

commonsCategory:PD-EEA // Tvpm =[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry but I don't speak French. This category is empty. Are you still planning to use it? If you are not, I think it should be deleted. Thankyou, (from Google translate) Bonjour, je suis désolé mais je ne parle pas français. Cette catégorie est vide. Êtes-vous distillateur projetant l'employer? Si vous n'êtes pas, je pense qu'il devrait être supprimé. Merci,

Hello, I will work on this category soon, as of tomorrow I will have Internet at my week-appartment (:
Best regards, Tvpm 15:32, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was just wondering if you have any idea what might have happened? I spent some time inserting spaces into subcategories of Category:Public domain, to force the listings to the first page, and it seemed to work. But now I see they are "spreading out" again. :( I think you also helped out with this, do you have any idea what might have happened? pfctdayelise 00:52, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It seems now that you have to use just " " as the category sort key. Presumably someone changed the MediaWiki code slightly. I fixed a bunch of them, but maybe there are more I missed? User:dbenbenn 16:34, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category-tree-commons[edit]

Hello, there was a little problem with the different between " " and "_". Now, it works. Kolossos 09:37, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My userpage[edit]

I like your changes. Alot. Thanks. :) --Phroziac . o º O (mmmmm chocolate!)

PD-Markenrecht[edit]

I will use this category... some images on german WP are licensed under this license. The upload on this wp will be stopped soon and all images will be transfered to commons. By now there are some images in this category which might be Copyright infringement so I don't use it by now... User:Jonaslange

Re: Nominated featured picture[edit]

Thanks very much! I've been so bold as to vote! Cormaggio 00:21, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!![edit]

Thanks for telling me how to nominate featured picture candidates. I was a little confused.--Bkwillwm 03:03, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, see Template:Featured pictures candidates/Image:Hashish-shop-Kathmandu-1973.jpg. "7 support, 3 oppose and 2 neutral => featured", but Featured picture candidates policy: "The candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions: At least 5 supporting votes".

Featured picture?--Shizhao 11:06, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. 看来是我理解错了--Shizhao 12:56, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you download the tar archive of images (as I had to do to upload them), you will find a license file in there which says they are LGPL. PS. Hebrew is a right-to-left script, hence the funny stuff with square brackets. Cheers, Alphax (talk) 13:00, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the support vote on the admin requests. -- WB 04:08, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!![edit]

Thank you, Pfctdayelise. I can't pronounce your name, but I truly appreciate your helping hand. My first 4-5 uploads did not work out well. A Wikipedia official pointed out that I lacked detailed correspondence to prove permission was given. An Opus Dei top official in fact gave me verbal permissionl. Anyway, everything has been solved. Everytime I uploaded anything, I went through the process of writing an email and waiting for a response. Most of the photos in the OD article are from me, except the one of Benedict and the one of Fontan.

I've spent the past 20 minutes uploading the photo of the young escriva, canonization photo, toni zweifel. So you may help me upload to Commons the photos of the bottom half. I'm about to log out now, and can work again tomorrow or next week. Thanks again for any help. :-) Walter Ching 07:26, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That would be great (if you could add to it). I also made a proposal to divide the FAQ into 2 or 3 distinct sections (see the Talk page). I think the FAQ needs some serious editing. We can't expect people to refer to it when it's so incomplete and brief. pfctdayelise 05:13, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I support your categorization of the FAQ, and that would go along with the Main Page being geared towards the casual user, then a "Portal" (maybe the Commons:Community portal) towards Wikimedians. When I add things to it, I'll work with the splitting in mind. —UED77 05:38, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

adminship[edit]

Thanks to your support, I was successful on my adminship as well. Thanks! -- WB 06:57, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be welcomed to translate some stuff. I did a few times, but I do not think I'll be regularily translating things. -- WB 01:55, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yay, I started creating Korean translations for the POTDs finally. -- WB 08:51, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish wikipedia[edit]

This was fairly easy. Common articles which used the same terminology. I created a lot of articles, like towns in Ireland ([:ga:An_Leathros]] Baile i gContae Shligigh is ea An Leathros (Strandhill as Béarla).), U.S. Presidents, Year articles, that used the same terminology with very little variance. I know enough Irish or had the right resources to ensure that the articles were gramatically correct.

Nothing was ever done, however, without verifying that the articles contained some useful content. I know that the Macedonian wikipedia, for instance, suddenly trebled in size as a result of several thousand blank, templated year articles. I always ensured that the year articles contained some useful content, e.g. deaths, births, events.

I added graphics where appropriate and other information as well as infoboxes. Bas parler voir 14:49, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin[edit]

You are now an admin here on Commons. Congratulations! villy 16:05, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't this redirect to the most recent version, ie {{Cc-by-2.5}}? Just thought I would check if there is some special reason to RDR to {{Cc-by-1.0}}, or if it is just historical. pfctdayelise 04:50, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. If someone releases their work under cc-by-1.0, you can't later change that to cc-by-2.5; only they can. I think the best thing to do would be to orphan cc-by (with a bot, replacing it with cc-by-1.0), then make it into a message about how there are different versions of the license, and you have to pick one. The same goes for {{Cc-by-sa}} and {{Cc-sa}}. User:dbenbenn 21:41, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: useless pictures[edit]

I've made these pistures, because i've thought that they would be usefull. But they really aren't. That's why i marked they as db. I hope you'll understand it (my english is not as good as i'd like to). Koobak 23:37, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About un-speedy[edit]

Yeah, I'm sorry. I was doing one of my archiving things (that co-incided with the posting of that one), and I removed it. I could un-delete it if you need to, but I'm pretty sure it's an ad. -- WB 01:02, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I try to leave images unless it's pretty obvious like Nike logos or something. See the re-drawn football team logos and stuff, I left them up for comments. -- WB 03:11, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Contact[edit]

I think we still should direct to info-XX in OTRS.

  1. Not everybody is an English speaker. People may hesitate before posting a message to a mailing-list in a foreign language.
  2. Some matters should be treated with discretion. On occasion, people have posted legal threats against WP in public mailing-lists, resulting in public controversies, hot tempers etc. This may expose us to greater legal annoyances.

Automatic translations (en -> fi)[edit]

Please don't use automatic translations from english to finnish made by InterTran. The result is total gibberish, not even funny :) Just write in english, that's perfectly OK. --Harriv 23:36, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a student of Wuhan University[edit]

Hello, I saw some photos of Wuhan University which are taken by you! Thank you a lot! Why did you come to Wuhan University last year? Can you tell me? And I will give some Chinese description of these photos. By the way, some sentances you wrote in Chinese are not very flowing, would you allow me to make any adjustments or corrections? --玉米^ō^麦兜 09:55, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum[edit]

Let me just echo Bastique's words: thanks #2! And the third thanks are due for uploading a bunch of lovely tennis photos! I really appreciate it. --Lumijaguaari (моє обговорення) 01:17, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A request[edit]

First of all I would truely say thank you for your nominating my picture to the featured picture. I think this confirms my skill of taking photo.

My picture, however, failed to be a featured picture. I think that this is because that picture was a computer-fixed picture.

Now I upload the original picture and please nomiate for me again. In fact, this photo was taken in the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal. I took the photo in front of the window.--Macanese馬交人 18:07, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Both here and zh:User:罗碧琴. I hope you can understand it. Happy Chinese New Year! --玉米^ō^麦兜 07:08, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aboriginal Flag[edit]

A few months back you left a message on the german wikipedia that the Aboriginal Flag was being deleted from wikipedia commons. I was looking for the discussion that led to its deletion but couldn't find it. I would appreciate it if your could give me whatever information you have on that deletion and the copyright issues surrounding it so that I can figure out what can be posted on the german wikipedia reguarding aboriginals and their various political movements.

Thanking you.

User:Andressing[edit]

Thanks for the heads up; I've left him a note and will keep an eye on him to see what happens. --Spangineeren es (háblame) 05:16, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find any page describing the blocking policy, so after he just uploaded another image I blocked him for 30 minutes. Hopefully he'll get the picture. --Spangineeren es (háblame) 05:34, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done[edit]

Yeah, Korean was added and I managed to fix the right-to-left issue for Hebrew as well. Cheers! -- WB 09:07, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you need translation on some other places as well maybe? -- WB 09:26, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that might take a while. I'll try to work on them when I get some free time. -- WB 10:10, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment on user talk Husky (dutch wikipedia)[edit]

Hi, saw your comment by chance. I respect your choice not to sign up for an account, but could you at least consider it, or as an alternative always include edit comments while editing as anon? Maybe this request is a bit out of line, but I've been checking anon edits for the past two hours, and that doesn't make me a happy bunny... Cheers, NielsF 11:09, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now I'm smiling ;-). I'm sorry, didn't even check your contribs, had I done that, probably wouldn't have reacted. The multiple usernames are a problem (I've got 7 myself), but I heard that maybe there'll be a solution soon..Let's hope so.. For your translation project, maybe this is something:
Italian translation
  • A: removing image, see Talk page
Immagine cancellata, vedi la pagina di discussione
  • B: Hi, this image is a suspected copyright violation and may soon be deleted from the [[Commons:]]. If your Wikipedia allows fair use, please consider uploading the image locally. Thank you.
Ciao, questa immagine è una sospetta violazione del copyright è potrebbe essere cancellata prossimamente di [[Commons:]].(It wikipedia doesn't allow fair use, so didn't translate that part) Grazie.

Hope you can use it. By the way, changed something in the Dutch translation too, plaatje-->afbeelding. Afbeelding (litt. depiction) is a little more formal and a little broader in meaning (in my opinion). Well, I hope I've shown a bit more of my positive side now :-). G'day, NielsF 11:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Changed wrong gender endings above (bold type) (on translation page as well). They probably would have understood anyway..NielsF 12:44, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
