Categories[edit]

Hi there Peter. Please see this edit for an example of how you add categories and fixes the information template which didn't display correctly. Regards. Adambro (talk) 20:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd again draw you to this edit which is what is needed to fix the information template and add it to the appropriate category pages. Adambro (talk) 20:43, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change the wording from MSO to DMSO? --Peter Skuce (talk) 20:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can click the edit button at the top of the image page and change it. For a list of your uploads see http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=upload&user=Peter+Skuce&page=&year=&month=-1. I note that I had to fix your recent upload again. Hello, Peter Skuce!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I note from the posters in the photograph that this shows an National Express East Coast carriage rather than GNER so have changed the description appropriately. I do however also note that the EXIF data says it was taken on 17 January 2007 but that cannot have been the case since National Express didn't take over the franchise until 9 December 2007. Was the date on your camera set incorrectly? Adambro (talk) 13:42, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Adambro,

GNER carried out their first refurbishment of the High Speed Train Mark 3 carriages in 1997. This work featured the following:

Brown cris-cross carpet trim Retrimmed light brown seat moquette on existing InterCity 70 seat design Walnut lamminated wall coverings Improved interior saloon lighting diffusers.

The second refurbishment commenced in 2005 and was based on the 'Project Mallard' Mark IV refurbishment. Please do not alter the title of photographs that I have uploaded from my collection without piror permission from myself first. I did not wish the photographs to be altered in any way, as the photographs concerned where of the GNER first refurbishment programme and had nothing to do with national express East Coast, even though the photographs of the interiors may have been taken in national express East Coast franchise/ownership.

--Peter Skuce (talk) 19:18, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Peter. Since the photograph portrays a National Express East Coast train, it is right to describe it and categorise it in such a way. I'll therefore be amending the description as appropriate and this and any similar photos to the relevant category. The refurbishment work may have been carried out whilst the carriage was being operating by GNER but that doesn't make it a GNER Mark 3 Trailer Guard Standard, it is still a National Express East Coast Mark 3 Trailer Guard Standard which just happened to have been refurbished when GNER was in charge of things. Adambro (talk) 23:26, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have I met you twice at Kings Cross? Adambro (talk) 23:46, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Mark 3 - refurbishment is GNER, however the carriage is used by its sucessor - national express East Coast. As I state, this carriage WAS leased to, used by and refurbished for GNER, this point I want to make absolutely clear. I have since added more photographs of Mark 3 carriages, including Grand Central, please feel free to use them and the following:

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Was this on an Adelante or an HST by the way? I'd like to be able to categorise it properly. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:52, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It was a HST. I bumped into Peter at Kings Cross when he was taking these photos and I was taking similar photos myself. Great minds and all that. Adambro (talk) 18:15, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peter, this image has no description or licence, could you please add them? Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:16, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm assuming that the filename was incorrect hence why Peter blanked the page and uploaded the file as File:4 Mark IV RSM.JPG as well. Therefore, I'll delete File:4 Mark IV TSOBK.JPG as "bad name" and I trust Peter will let me know if that is a problem. Adambro (talk) 15:21, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okey, I didn't know there was another version. Peter, could you please tag such images for deletion in future? Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:57, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid or silly but I don't know how to do this. Can you help? --Peter Skuce (talk) 19:28, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just add filename of duplicate image and it will be placed in the speedy deletion queue. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:56, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Camera date/time[edit]

Hi there Peter. I wonder if it would be possible for you to set the date/time on the camera that you use? It is often useful to know when a particular photo is taken and this information, if it is set on the camera, will appear in the EXIF data shown below the image. Also, if you know the date any of your photos were taken the please consider adding it to the information template. Regards. Adambro (talk) 16:41, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other versions[edit]

Hi mate. I've noticed that on a lot of your uploads the class category ends up appearing twice, once with the other categories and once in the other versions field. The OV field generally to list other images which are derivative works of the image. If you were trying to add a link to the category, you need to add a colon in front of the category, eg :Category:British Rail Class 378. Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:16, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Birthday[edit]

Happy Birthday Peter. 03:40, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you wanted this image deleted. Two things, the deletion template is Delete or Speedy, second, why not just upload the new image with a new name? File:143617 Interior 2.JPG maybe? Tell you what, I'll do it myself. I assume it is still 143617? -mattbuck (Talk) 21:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just want one image deleted, so I wrote DELETE - I thought that was correct - Please note I want the new one to replace the old one - why does it have to be so hard on here?

--Peter Skuce (talk) 21:11, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just don't see one as particularly better than the other, so don't see why we shouldn't keep both. As for why DELETE doesn't work, that's just an inline link, not a deletion template which would place the image in a category where someone might delete it. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:21, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As for replacing, I'll do a universal replace. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:22, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. We try and make it fairly easy to do things here, but getting things deleted isn't one of them, as we generally want to keep stuff. First off, we don't care about space - we don't mind that we have several images of the same thing (if we did, all train cats would be almost entirely empty), so that you uploaded something new isn't that great a reason for deletion, especially when the old images are fine, and as you released them into the public domain you no longer have any rights over their use whatsoever. Second, when saying you uploaded something better, it helps to tell us what - admins aren't mind-readers so if we can't see what it is you want to replace those images with, we're not likely to delete them.

I would also like to suggest that if you want to do get things deleted more easily, you should nominate them for deletion - there are instructions at COM:DR on how to do this. Alternatively, go to preferences > gadgets, and enable Quick Delete under the maintenance section, which then adds a nifty "nominate for deletion" link to the toolbox which does it automagically. But put simply, we're not going to speedy delete something simply because you don't like it anymore, and so it'll go to an admin who hopefully won't be me to deal with, because - I shall be frank - I find dealing with you rather tiresome, and I'm sure the reverse is also true. I understand that you want to try and put better pictures on here, but your attitude often leaves a lot to be desired and your intentions come across as wanting your photos and only your photos to be used. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:51, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:313103_C_North_Woolwich.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Wrong Picture Title[edit]

Your picture listed below is of London Midland livery not Silverlink livery

The first Class 321 EMU in London Midland livery - No. 321411 is seen at Watford Junction with a sister 321/4 in Silverlink livery

Picture with wrong date[edit]

Hi Peter! No big deal but I just noticed your photo File:720501 Internal.jpg has an obviously incorrect date of Jan 1 1970 (this is a common incorrect date given by cameras as it is the start of the common UNIX time system). Could you please find the correct one when you have a chance and fix it? If that's not possible you can just like put Circa with the correct year, which would also be an improvement.

Thanks! Keep up the great photos! DemonDays64 (talkcontribsuploads) 03:01, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
