A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Good Humor
I'd love to try this sometime. I see Malunggay is also called "horseradish tree" - does it have that intense sensation of horseradish? Milkfish is not something I've ever seen around here (New York). Thanks for sharing! — Rhododendrites talk13:51, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
@Rhododendrites: Apparently malunggay is called "horseradish tree" because of the roots. First time I heard about it. I haven't tasted horseradish or the roots of malunggay yet, so I can't say for sure. Thanks for the barnstar! :) pandakekok9 03:24, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Helpdesk page replaced ! help / sorry / etc !

Hello. Maraming salamat; thank you very much for reverting and correcting my submission to the wikimedia Helpdesk page, and please accept my very sincere apologies for the disturbance !!

I am not sure what went wrong, and I am curious about this; this is what I remember doing:

  • tapped [edit] on my question on Helpdesk
  • prepared text (my response to response to ... etc)
  • showed preview
  • did something else in a different tab (unavoidable urgent task)
  • a few minutes later came back to the tab with my prepared edit
  • showed preview (?perhaps after a final modif)
  • published

I do not understand how I could have replaced the whole page ... do you have any idea what may have gone wrong or what I did wrongly ? (apart from the fact that I was not staying concentrated on one task :) which I freely admit to) -- Jwikip (talk) 11:52, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

@Jwikip: That's weird. Maybe it's a bug. This is why I always check what it looks like after saving, even though I have previewed it before publishing. No need to apologize though, all of us make mistakes. :) pandakekok9 11:56, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
I didn't write it in the list above but I believe I did check again after the change (I usually do) ... the situation is bizarre enough for me to suspect a bug. I cannot be sure as I don't seem to have precise timings in my browser history. By the way I believe someone else was updating at about the same time. Also please note apologising is not a problem for me, as I make mistakes all the time :) !! Thank you again -- Jwikip (talk) 12:08, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

File mover

Hi, I asked User: Podzemnik to make a request for me (File mover). I want to ask you if he could make this request, because Podzemnik didn´t respond to my request. I would use these rights mainly for myself, for many times I was mistaken in the title of an image and then found that the title could not be corrected, then of course I would like to use these rights in foreign images where there are various misspellings, vulgar names and so on. Thank you. --Adámoz (talk) 10:31, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

@Adámoz: Filemover is only for those who will be actively using it and have experience in file renaming. You haven't made a file rename request, which is sort of required to say you have experience. I suggest requesting a file rename request instead on those files you wish to rename. If you want to be a filemover though, you will need to read and understand COM:FR guidelines and probably make about 20 successful rename requests before requesting the filemover right. If you haven't enabled it already (or you have disabled it), I suggest turning on the RenameLink gadget on your preferences to make your job easy. Thanks, pandakekok9 10:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Migration

How can you tell me that I can't authorize migration of the license on my own photo? https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Seattle_-_looking_south_on_Fifth_Avenue_from_just_north_of_the_corner_of_Pike_-_2016.jpg&diff=409164676&oldid=186026654 - Jmabel ! talk 16:13, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

@Jmabel: License migration is for files first uploaded to a Wikimedia project before 1 August 2009 (or if not first released under the GFDL to a Wikimedia project, it must be uploaded before 1 November 2008 to a Wikimedia project). Your photo is obviously after 2009, so it's not eligible. You can put a CC-BY-SA-3.0 license there if you want (though it already has CC-BY-SA-4.0, so it's kinda redundant). Number of nominations

Hi, there has been an informal agreement that three/day is a sensible maximum for number of nominations at VI. Thanks. Charles (talk) 12:17, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

@Charlesjsharp: I only made one nomination this day, so you should have told me earlier (or later if I did made more than three)... Anyway, I searched the talk page of VIC, and there were some suggestions on a daily limit of nominations. All of them didn't result in any consensus, so I'm not sure what "informal agreement" you're referring. Archaeodontosaurus did agree that there should be 3 per day limit, but it is only his choice, and I nor any VIC participant are not obliged to follow a limit. I don't feel obliged to follow any limit, I nominate whenever I find something valuable. Nominating a lot of images in a short time is not a sign that I am reckless. I make sure each image best represent their scope and have geocoding if necessary, and I look for their categories to use as the scope. Sometimes I forget, and other reviewers remind me of it, which I do as soon as I can. I prefer it be unlimited, because I believe having an an arbitrary limit might kill VI. Another reason is because there are so many valuable images that aren't VI yet, and since most of us are under quarantine, I thought it was the best time to nominate as fast as I can. I think we should have another discussion about it on the VIC talk page and establish consensus for good. If a limit would be inevitable (and it will be if VIC grows into a community like FPC), I would be fine with 10 or 7 noms per day. pandakekok9 12:39, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
@Pandakekok9 and Charlesjsharp: There is a VERY INFORMAL agreement among two or three people that 3/day is the maximum. I really don't mind more nominations since we're all stuck at home anyway, and the VI repository isn't nearly as complete as it should be. —Percival Kestreltail (talk) 16:12, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
Indeed. 33,096 VIs out of 60 million files is just too low. It's not even close to the 6,054,905 articles in the English Wikipedia, nor the 718,346 documented species in Wikispecies. We definitely need to promote more images, and that means more nominations. pandakekok9 03:39, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello! I have been trying to update the logo of the university I work at, but it has been flagged twice https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lander_Bearcats. I'm wanting to update with the correct logo so people will stop using the old one. Please let me know what I need to do to make this happen. Thanks! Rixonlane (talk) 04:11, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

@Rixonlane: There's two options here: either ask whoever is in charge of your university's copyright to send an email to the OTRS and confirm there that they are releasing their logo under a free license, or overwrite the local version at the English Wikipedia (en:File:LanderBearcats.png). For the latter though, it should be in a lower resolution, due to Wikipedia's Non-free/fair use media policy. pandakekok9 04:30, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

@Dhawalshah2s: First, it is the photographer who owns the copyright of that photo. So you would need permission from them. They should send an email to the OTRS team and confirm that they are releasing their photo under the free license specified on the file description page. If it's a work for hire (you hold the copyright), we still need a verification from the photographer themselves. Thanks, pandakekok9 08:57, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
