Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}

Colours[edit]

Hi Anu! Hope you're having a nice starting of 2009. I forgot to answer you about your question for some colours, done in november! Ok, I see you found solutions for some of them:

Naranja sepia: this means orange in a sepia tone, like old pictures; but as we can see in the pdf of flags of Almeria (Gádor municipality) it looks like pure orange. We can create a mix between brown and orange, but I found it not needed if it used only for one flag.

  • Azul añil: as you did for the Setenil flag (Cádiz) it means a dark blue, so B++.
  • Amarillo limón: so, lemmon yellow. Usually it is used colloquially for a bright yellow, and we could use both Y and Y--, but I would vote for the second one.
  • Rojo ocre: for this colour, I would pick our Orange, also used for simple 'ocres'. But i have thought we can create another orange (O+) not created yet, for the common 'ocre' and this 'rojo ocre'. And left orange alone.
  • Tierra: earth, so, also 'ocre'. Like the rojo ocre, I'm going to create a little dark orange, O+.
  • Verde madroño: lol, original one. As we can see in the Pdf of the Andalusia goverment, it looks simply like a dark green, so V++.
  • Violada: that means 'violet' as sure you know, but, we had problems to define violets, murrays, purples, and so. Purpure is more an heraldic tradition brought to flags, and morado has another touch. Anyway, we defined dark violet like Purpure, but not the common violet. The dictionary of the Spanish Academy says that 'violet' is a light 'morado', so we can create another colour, a morado--, namely 'violet', lighter than morado, and close also purpure and magenta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple#Purple_versus_violet).
  • Bermejo: is a darkish red shade, so R++, like 'granate' or 'burdeos'.

Hope it helped :) I'm going to create the new shades! --HansenBCN (talk) 15:42, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I took time to answer because lately I have no much time for wikipedia :(, I finished uni few time ago, and now I work a lot, and I have few free time, hehe. Ok! let's see, for the 'ocre' i've created a new colour mixing O- with R+, and resulted colour mixed with brown (M), after other trying, i think its the best choice for an appropiate ocre (ochre). We can fit it as O+ , better as M-, not created yet. How do you see? (R=157, G=83 and B=51). If you see it fine, I will add it on the chart.
For the lemon yellow, I think you're right. After watching many lemon pics (google) I think the best colour is simply yellow. It use to mean a bright yellow, and I couldn't find any bright yellow between our colours. I think it is also because a bright colour would mean more a bright material (for the flag) than a colour itself; if you put a simply RGBish yellow (255,255,0) , it will appear very bright, but it brokes the assumption of that chart (to avoid simply web colours and choice more realistic colours for flag images) and I guess, not fits fine with other colours. Also as we said, it's just for one flag ;)
Azul Prusia is clearly a dark blue, B++ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prussian_blue). And gris perla, I guess it would fit perfectly as a silver AG. If you compare, you will see that the silver of the chart would be also a G--, and that's fine if the flag's description says both names, gris perla or plata.
Finally, for the Violet...I'm going to explore now, say you something later :) --HansenBCN (talk) 16:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Following wikipedia about violet and purple, I've seen our 'morado' is very close to a propper 'violet' so I cleared a bit following the way used to clear other colours, and the morado- fits perfectly for a 'violet' (203,157,154). How do you see? --HansenBCN (talk) 16:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen you used a dark blue for the flag of Alquería de Aznar, which says 'azul turquesa', hehe, I guess you thought it was the same as 'azul turquí', because the names are very close. But 'turquesa' means 'turquoise', usually defined like a greenish blue or a blueish green. For this one I propose a new category and a mix of that primary colours, which results in R=11, B=104 and G=112. Hope it helps. About the question of 'morado', and violet, yes, that's very confusing! I'm happy to read you enjoy about creating and discusing the new shades, I think we are doing by the good way and establishing a very interesting colours system for flags :) --HansenBCN (talk) 23:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flags of Catalonia[edit]

Hi Anu, the flag's descriptions of Catalonia are not in www.municat.net, there only will find a representation of the same, but without description and sometimes with errors. The descriptions are in the DOGC database [1] but you need some information, like the number of document (number of DOGC-> Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya) or some of the DOGC's dates (publication or aprovation). You could find some of these information at the catalan version of wikipedia.

For exemple: Flag of Rubí. There you find a date: 14 de maig de 1990

Months in catalan
  1. Gener
  2. Febrer
  3. Març
  4. Abril
  5. Maig
  6. Juny
  7. Juliol
  8. Agost
  9. Setembre
  10. Octubre
  11. Novembre
  12. Desembre

I go to the DOGC's data base in spanish and click on the field "Fecha DOGC" and inform: 14.05.1990 and then click the button "buscar" that means search. The result is bellow the searh page. The result gives more than a page, for these reason, I click the button "Imprimir sumario" -> Print summary. Whit this action, I have all the results in the same page, then I find by text (with firefox pressing Ctrl+F) "bandera". Then I have the rest of the information:

30.- Número DOGC: 1291 Fecha DOGC: 14.05.1990 Página DOGC: 1923
Organismo: DEPARTAMENTO DE GOBERNACIÓN Y RELACIONES INSTITUCIONALES/14000
Título documento: ANUNCIO relativo a la aprobación de la bandera municipal de Rubí (Vallès Occidental).

Then I know that the point 30 has the information about the flag description of Rubí. Then return to the original find page when we push the button "Imprimir sumario" and search the point number 30 and click the link. At the top of the page will appear:

...
*** El texto del documento está disponible en formato PDF
***Imagen del documento en descarga del documento en formato PDF
...

If you click the pdf icon, you will have the page of the official document with the flag description in spanish.

If you don't find the text, try to find with the field "Fecha documento" instead of "Fecha DOGC".

I want to finish the coats of arms of Catalonia and then I will pursue the flags.

See you Anu! --Xavigivax (talk) 10:06, 22 January 2009 (UTC) P.S. I add some colors to the flag's inkscape's palette [2].[reply]
