Hi there! This image: Image:Tupperware in Design museum Gent.jpg is missing it's source information. There was a link to flicker, but it pointed at a different picture. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

A file which deserves your special kind of love

I stumbled on this file while working today. It reminds me a lot of the Charles P. Stone and daughter Hettie photograph you brought to featured status recently. The subject is worthy of treatment, an important figure in ACW-era U.S. history and the Andrew Johnson impeachment. The contrast between the poses of father and son makes for interesting and unusual composition, but the photographer's primitive equipment couldn't resolve the depth-of-field issue. You can see many different kinds of defects which require a delicate hand. Finally, the file is quite large, having lots of information to start with. I hope you don't mind my suggesting this candidate; I run across such uncut gems occasionally. BusterD (talk) 22:40, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

resto work

hi;

i'm going to be uploading a quantity of art & book scans which will need restoration work; a variety of things, mostly japanese & mostly paintings/drawings/prints

haven't got the time or skill/training to do more than vry baqsic photo-editing; looking for people interested in working on them

my userpage gallery displays the uploads User:Lx_121, & will update as new things are added

this item Category:"Manzai", artist unknown (Wittig ptg-01) is probably the highest prioriy, since i;m using the image on the "Manzai" article page @ wp.

will do an archive-quality scan when i'm set up for it; until then have uploaded photos of the top & bottom halves of the painting, & 2 reference shots.

also have created a "working print" cropped for use on the wp article; just a very rough edit @ this point; needs to be cleaned up more

would welcome anybody's help in the various parts of this job!

& can provide more images of the piece if/as needed.

Congratulations! A fascinating image.

However, I want to comment about the conventional practice when cropping or mounting prints. With any print, taken from a book plate or original, it should be left with a little edge of paper, a few millimetres wide on three sides, and a little more at the bottom. The details of artist, printer etc are often written outside the lower margin (in the case of an original print) and these should not be cropped out. When a print is mounted for framing, the convention of leaving an edge all round is maintained. In the case of a drawing or water colour, if the artist has marked a clear border around the work, then you crop clear of it by a margin, not right up to the border. If there is no clear edge and the drawing or watercolour spread out in an irregular way, then it's Ok to crop or mount it straight. As a artist, I'd like to see this convention maintained on Wki Commons. Amandajm (talk) 14:29, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Michel, would it be alright if you added descriptions in Dutch and German to File:Dunglish.jpg? I am going to add the text from the English Wikipedia used as the caption to the Commons page.
