Spirit Photographer Cover Art[edit]

Hi @RonhJones . . . OK, I will see if the publisher will go through the link you specify. If not, what is our next alternative. Would taking a picture of the book qualify as one for which we would own the copyright? Thank you, Alexander Moviemaker325 (talk) 22:20, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Taking an image of a copyrighted work makes it a derivative work, and technically then needs two licenses, one for the overall photo and one for the copyrighted work - so not a useful route - the original copyright holder can never lose his copyright. Thanks @RonhJones. We've just written again to the publisher and asked them to fill out the Interactive Release Generator. Hopefully they will do that for us tomorrow. Stay tuned. Moviemaker325 (talk) 22:43, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If they do that, then the OTRS team will arrange undeletion as soon as they are happy. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:49, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again @RonhJones. I've just added another image (William Mumler.png) to the William Mumler entry, but this one is long out of copyright (it's from 1869) and shouldn't be a problem. Moviemaker325 (talk) 23:04, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @RonhJones. We received word back from the publisher. They said exactly this: "The wizard only gives three options for the image, all of which grant anyone the right to use the work in commercial purposes and modify it in any way, and we can’t agree to that, unfortunately. We’ll have to find another solution to posting the image that does not involve designating it as a Wikimedia Commons image." Can you advise as to what our next best option is? There are many book images up on wikipedia. Can you tell us how those were done perhaps? The Underground Railroad, The DaVinci Code, Wolf Hall.Moviemaker325 (talk) 14:23, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not surprised. I'll add some guidelines on your en-wiki talk page. We are done here. en:User talk:Moviemaker325 Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:46, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
