MS Wiki

Dear MGA73,
I decided to take up your offer of coupling cc-by-nc-2.0 with GFDL with "migration=opt-out". I would appreciate if you can assist with the required tagging. I do not wish to spend much time on this already, but wish to continue developing MS Wiki with the time available.

Sorry if I give you a hard time earlier (at MS Wiki), as I misunderstood your intentions.

Regards Yosri (talk) 11:08, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I wish it to be dual license. I also do not have any objection to move those images to commons. Yosri (talk) 22:09, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Parkland Walk

Thanks for sorting this out. Dudley Miles (talk) 23:44, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

You are welcome - thank you for the photo :-) --MGA73 (talk) 16:23, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Create a cat here

Can you briefly create a cat for this set of images here I didn't upload them but the category doesn't seem to work. She's some US Tea Party activist. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:59, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Secondly what would you do with this image below. Its the only image on this flickr account. The uploader claims to be the photographer but with only 1 image, I doubt this is enough evidence. A Tineye search did not reveal anything but I'm sure I have seen this picture somewhere on the web before:
  • File:Jim Lee - Photographer and Film Director - (Photo by Clare Park).jpg

This is your call, I'm afraid. Thanks in advance, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:12, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Created category. Flickr is down at the moment so I have to check tomorrow. --MGA73 (talk) 22:19, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
I reviewed the photo and commented on the DR. --MGA73 (talk) 16:22, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey, please delete this as once. It's totally a problem.--俠刀行 (talk) 21:06, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Do you mean the whole file or just the latest version? The file is in use and we normally do not like to delete files that is in use. You could upload the correct file on top or as File:1860s Battle of Palikao Print.jpg or something and we could delete the old one when new one is uploaded? --MGA73 (talk) 22:14, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for trying to get practice and policy in sync (MediaWiki talk:Filedelete-reason-dropdown#Cleanup in deletion reasons). I am very disappointed to see that you got so little support in the discussion. --LPfi (talk) 23:26, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment :-) --MGA73 (talk) 09:28, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

What do you do when someone order a [[tl|flickrreview}} on a flickr image which is licensed 'ARR' but which I am 100% certain the Commons uploader IS the flickr account owner. He was suspicious that the Common's account owner just copied the Flickr user's name which I think is not realistic. Is OTRS really needed here? The flickr owner knows that his pictures are here. I had to ask him to relicense some of them as 'cc by' or 'cc by sa' in 2008 to save them from deletion. Please see here , here & here where I requested the flickr review after I got the license changed. Shortly thereafter, Rosemania must have created his own Commons user account and uploaded a few images on Commons. Most were licensed freely except in a few cases but it should not be a problem if the Commons uploader=Flickr owner. In this case--and another--I just removed the flickr review needs human review tag and said the uploader is the flickr account owner. What do you think? Am I wrong in doing this or is OTRS really needed? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:34, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

File Lëtzebuerger Sandsteen

This file is mine. René Beideler is my name. I used it on fr Wiki before switching to Les Meloures for all wikis. Best regards --Les Meloures (talk) 21:38, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

PS: This file may be deleted. In fact on this place there is no Lëtzebuerger Sandsteen. It was an error of mine. I will reupload it under a correct noun and explications --Les Meloures (talk) 21:43, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok. But you can just tell me what the correct name is and I can move it (You can use {{rename|new name.jpg}}). --MGA73 (talk) 21:45, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

US Navy emblems

Hi, I would be grateful, if you could beam the emblems that you bot into Commons in the proper categories. If you do not know which one (the USN re-designation practice is often confusing), please beam the emblems into this category: Category:United States naval aviation emblems. Thank you Cobatfor (talk) 15:35, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I checked the first files and you have been so kind to change the categories on them :-) Do you still want me to change anything? By the way I was cleaning up en:Category:Wikipedia files requiring renaming and instead of renaming them on enwiki I moved them to Commons. --MGA73 (talk) 13:18, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
By the way there are still a lot of files left in en:Category:Images of United States military badges. They should probably be moved to Commons. --MGA73 (talk) 13:23, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
It would be o.k., if you could upload them to Commons via bot (I don't know how this works) to the above mentioned category and then I would categorize them later. Often you have to check twice, which unit had what designation at which time ... Cheers Cobatfor (talk) 14:09, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok I will have a look at them later :-) --MGA73 (talk) 14:47, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you please delete this image (he removed the copy vio tag I placed on it) and consider banning this user for 2-3 months. Its a flickr wash. He was warned by Justass to stop uploading copyright violations. Just look at the history of his talkpage. He has cleared his talkpage now but the history will show Justass' warnings to him. Thank you in advance....And maybe this flickr account can be placed on a list of suspicious flickr accounts by an Admin like you?

PS: He is also involved in a separate DR here but pls. delete the image I tagged above. --Leoboudv (talk) 21:53, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I closed the DR and deleted the files and blocked the user. Next time it would be better to leave a note on Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections. --MGA73 (talk) 22:19, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Cleanup after transfer to Commons

Ok, I have readded the info that I had removed in the file description of File:Biederstrooss Jugendstil.jpg. --Cayambe (talk) 19:49, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Pay attention to copyright
File:Becky_James.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:Frank_Nouble.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Some lb files wrongly categorized

Hi. It appears some files imported from lb.wikipedia by your bot have been wrongly categorized in Category:Maps of municipalities of Luxembourg. I wonder why, those files have nothing to do with maps. — Bjung (talk) 16:42, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. It is most likely because the files are used in articles that is in lb:Kategorie:Gemengen_zu_Lëtzebuerg or a subcategory. This category has a {{Commonscat|Maps of municipalities of Luxembourg}} that tells the bot that the matching category on Commons is Category:Maps of municipalities of Luxembourg. To solve that "problem" the commonscat needs to be fixed. --MGA73 (talk) 18:41, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi MGA73,

Per your IRC request, et voila.

You can now use {{backlog|admin=1}} or {{backlog|<treshold>|admin}}. –Krinkletalk 23:26, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. --MGA73 (talk) 20:19, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Blocked?

I'm sorry, but there must be a misunderstanding here. I put in the copyvio template because I considered File:Skogsfinnar.jpg an obvious copyright violation. The text in the template clearly says that anyone who disagrees should do so by starting a discussion about it. Pieter Kuiper neglected this, and reverted my edit without any discussion and has continued to do so. Wouldn't it be fair to warn him also? You don't just remove the template and then say you want to discuss. You announce your opinion first and then try to reach an agreement in a DR. --Zejo (talk) 00:01, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia has The three-revert rule to avoid edit warring. Commons does not have the same strict rule but if users keep reverting each other they will be blocked.
The copyvio template says it is ok to remove the tag if you disagree. The reason for that is that we do not want files to be in Category:Copyright violations if it is disputed that it is a copyvio. Pieter did not make a notice on the talk page first but he changed the license to PD-Sweden and explained in the edit summary that it does not qualify for a speedy deletion and asked you to start a DR.
At the time I removed the copyvio notice there was a notice on the talk page and I also asked you to start a DR. Yet you reverted 2 times more. You are most welcome to start a DR and tell why you think PD-Sweden is not ok. But no more edit warring please. --MGA73 (talk) 13:19, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
I created a DR now. Feel free to comment. --MGA73 (talk) 10:58, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I need help from your bot for Egypt Archive

Dear Michael,

I need some help from your mgabot. Perhaps you don't know this but I am a fan of Egyptology I and many other users used to download many copyright free images from the Egypt Archive web site here but now its owner (Jon Bodsworth) has just taken it down as he says here in March 2011. There are 367 important images from his web site as you can see at present and none should face deletion. Luckily, I discussed in the past with Admin Lupo the possibility that this important web site (with its rare pictures of ancient Egyptian art, pyramids and temples) might one day disappear/go offline and that all evidence that the images were copyright free would disappear and Lupo sent me this message. In the second link he cites, he referred me to the Internet archive web link Here for Egypt Archive which proves that all the images were licensed freely by Jon Bodsworth. I too once asked Bodsworth if he would upload some images freely (for the tombs of certain Egyptian pharaohs) on his web site and he did so for me...so that I could upload them to WikiCommons here:

Anyway, my question is simple: Can your mgabot replace the now defunct Permission link with the internet archive link I gave you for all 367 images? With a bot, it should not be a problem. Can you help with your bot...just for the permission link? I don't know why Jon took down the web site but I assure you 1) he knew his pictures were used on Wikicommons and he has no problems here or else he would never say his pictures were copyright free and 2) it can be costly to maintain a web page for free. Thank You and I hope you can help here with your bot on the 367 images. This would ensure also that no one can claim that a "new" photo came from this web site after March 2011. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:10, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

I created a template for the text. That way it is possible to fix the text on all files without having to edit all the files. You can find the template Template:Egypt Archive and category Category:Images from Egypt Archive. Feel free to improve it.
Could you have a look at File:Abu Simbel 1850s.jpg, File:BD Hunefer cropped 1.jpg, File:BD Hunefer cropped 2.jpg, File:BD Hunefer.jpg, File:Icons 1e-6m to 1e5m squares 512pixel.png, File:Old Valley of the tombs of the kings.png, File:Papyrus of Hunefer, detail.jpg?
  •  Comment:Thank you for your kind help. I corrected a few minor typing errors in your Egypt archive template. As for the images you referred to above, 2 of them--that of Abu Simbel and the Old Valley of the tombs of the kings--were just taken from the egypt archive site but Bodsworth named the book source and the original author: William Bartlett who died in 1854 so, they are both pd-old. For the 3 images of the papyrus, I removed the egypt archive link but left Bodsworth's name appear (in case he wonders why his name does not appear). Old papyrus are not a problem here since they are 2-D art fortunately whose copyright expired centuries ago and the original artists are all dead. As for this File:Icons 1e-6m to 1e5m squares 512pixel.png, I would not worry too much since it uses only 1 image of a pyramid from Bodsworth's web site and your bot has correctly said that it is copyright free. With best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:54, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing those ugly typos. Now it is easy to improve since you only have to edit one page. Yay. --MGA73 (talk) 21:58, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

What's wrong with the flickr review bot here? It says there is no flickrlink which is not true. The uploader clearly gave the flickrlink and the license is cc by sa generic. So, I gave the url for the author (only) and asked for a second {{Flickrreview}} and got the same result. Can you please mark these 2 pictures...in your capacity as an Admin? It maybe better if you mark them as an independent third party. I see no evidence of copyright violations at all on the flickr account. Thank You MGA73, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:05, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

I think it is because the link is "special". I changed it [1] to see if that was the problem. --MGA73 (talk) 19:31, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
  •  Comment: The flickr bot passed the images this time. I don't know what was different with the link extension. But you do. At least the problem is resolved. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:28, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you undelete these files temporarily so I can move them to the English Wikipedia (I'm asking you since the admin who just deleted them said he just logged off, and I found you in recent changes). They are public domain in the United States. —innotata 14:12, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

✓ Done :-) --MGA73 (talk) 14:19, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Can you delete the first six now? up to File:Zzzkamao.jpg (I've saved the images and descriptions, and want to upload to the same name on enwiki; I'll do the same with the other half after). —innotata 14:28, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I'll upload them all to different names, and then tell you, and move them after that. —innotata 14:50, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
They're all on enwiki: ✓ Done. When you delete them, is there a way to not have CommonsDelinker run on enwiki (so I don't have to revert it all over again?) —innotata 15:02, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
They are deleted again. Delinker should not remove them if there is a local file on en-wiki. But to be sure told Delinker not to touch the files. --MGA73 (talk) 16:58, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I've just noticed two files that I didn't tag with the DR—File:ZzzHawaiianrail.jpg and File:Zzzolomao.jpg, which I've also probably can be deleted without discussion (and there may be more with out categories), otherwise there is only another DR for works by the artist. —innotata 18:04, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes I deleted those two also. --MGA73 (talk) 18:34, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the help! —innotata 20:09, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

How do I create a Category?

See Category:日露戦争, I don't know what can be added. My plan is to put some images in the Category.--俠刀行 (talk) 18:15, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! We have a help page for categories here Commons:Categories - mayby that can help you. Category names should generally be in English. Go to the category you want to create. Add a small intro and some categories to put the new category in the relevant categories. To put the files in the category simply add [[Category:Name of the category you created]]. Perhaps Category:Russo-Japanese War is the category you are looking for? --MGA73 (talk) 18:28, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
I created the category but I could not find much about him. --MGA73 (talk) 14:22, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Are these 2 images copyright violations? They seem to have been taken from another site (from the flickr link note) and placed on a flickr account with only 4 pictures. If you think they are, please tag them as copyright violations. All I know is the uploader had 1 image deleted for being a copy vio. But its hard to judge here...since in this picture's flickr link below, the flickr account owner claims he or she attended the function (and presumably took the photo unless he or she is not telling the truth.)

On wiki, the rules are to AGF, but I don't know what the rules are for Commons. You have to decide this things since its either a genuine photo by the uploader or a serious copy vio. With best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:45, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

AGF also apply on Commons. But Flicker user does not say "I took this picture.". The text says it is from a party. However tineye gives no hits and I can find nothing similar with Google. So personally I would not tag them as copyvios. --MGA73 (talk) 14:30, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

free speech flag

thank you for your work on Free-speech-flag-ps3.svg Decora (talk) 14:35, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

You'r welcome :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:10, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

If I upload images thats very bloody and Cruel

What rule should I follow if I do that? Is there any policy supports some photographs banned?--俠刀行 (talk) 10:37, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

If they are not illegal they are allowed. But if you see a person hit by a car and take a close up where we can see the person dying we would probably delete the file or blur the image so we can not see who the person is. If the image is very old I doubt it would be a problem. --MGA73 (talk) 16:25, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
You should perhaps upload a retouched version with the face blurred, with the same name as the original, so that the face is not recognizable in the version used, but can be blurred with a better algorithm, and recovered when the image has become old.
The policy that might ban the image is Photographs of identifiable people. Sometimes images have been deleted also out of respect for the relatives, regardless of policy. There may also be laws on personality rights affecting the legality of the image itself or use of the image (depending on your legislation).
--LPfi (talk) 06:48, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Will you mark these images?

Will you mark these images or nominate them for deletion. They appear to be derivatives...but the problem is they are 2D art:

Someone nominated an image here for DR:

Also, can you find a source for this image? If you can, it definitely needs a new name. The title is bad:

Everyone has avoided marking these photos, I notice. But maybe...you are braver? I have no clue what to do. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:11, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I nominated the 3 first to deletion. I agree that it is not very likely that it is own work. I found the source for the file with the "ugly name". I could not find a permission for the last file but we have mails for some of the other uploads from this Flickr user - example http://www.flickr.com/photos/galeriapehuen/5591694853/ - so it is possible there is one somewhere. However, it is in a language that I do not understand so I do not know if we can use some of the other permissions as proof. --MGA73 (talk) 18:13, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
  •  Comment: I suppose one should AGF with the last photo in this situation. On the Stoltenberg image, I could not find the source of the photo. I am glad that you did and that you renamed the image file. The first 3 images were likely copy vios but I could not tell if they were in the public domain or not. That is the problem with some potentially pd-art images. Thank you for your help. --Leoboudv (talk) 20:45, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

A question

Do you have a picture of the 9 millionth and the 10 millionth image file on wikicommons? Just curious. Maybe, they're good or just so so, but I'll be interesting to see them, I suppose. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:57, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Maybe you can find the license? Finally, would you pass or fail this 2D art image. I found out that the creator died in 1957 which is less than 70 years ago. I don't know if it is PD or not. If not, it should be failed sadly.

Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Reviewed the 2 first files and nominated the third for deletion. At the moment I do now know which file is 10M but will look for it. --MGA73 (talk) 20:32, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
You can find some of the files here [2] and 10M was File:POL Lipno (jezioro w województwie pomorskim) 02.jpg. --MGA73 (talk) 20:36, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

FOP in Luxembourg

This user has uploaded several images of buildings in Luxembourg even though CT Cooper has now notified him (today after the fact) not to do so. Do you know how to do a mass DR on the ones which are modern buildings and cannot be kept? Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:06, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

I normally just add a list of all the files in the DR and copy the DR from the first file I nominated for deletion. In this case add the list here and copy the "{{delete...}" from here. I do not think all photos of new buildings are copyvios. If the building is seen from large distance or if it is just a simple construction with no artistic elements I would not nominate it for deletion. --MGA73 (talk) 20:21, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

cleanup at en.wp

I need some support to

  1. move 90 files to commons
  2. tag 230 files for deletion
  3. delete 130 files

Can you help me? -- Common Good (talk) 17:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes that should be possible :-) What have you found? --MGA73 (talk) 17:55, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
interwiki dupes:

from it.wp to Commons

from de.wp to Commons

Are you cleaning up de:Kategorie:Datei:Identisch mit Kopie in anderem Projekt ? :-D --MGA73 (talk) 18:31, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

No. Cleaning up uploads by two users at en.wp.
230 files for deletion -> see en:User talk:MGA73#orphaned (location) maps -- Common Good (talk)

This whole thing started with a single interwiki dupe from it.wp (uploaded to en.wp by User:Attilios) which I had found some days ago. Then I scanned his contributions and found all the other files. :-)

Checked files will end in en:Category:Wikipedia files reviewed on Wikimedia Commons by Common Good. Some files are already gone, 61 awaiting deletion, 67 left for tomorrow. Thanks for your support. -- Common Good (talk) 22:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Files was allready deleted when I looked :-) --MGA73 (talk) 15:46, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
One file is left: Please delete en:File:San Severo sanlorenzo.jpg. It is an old and downscaled image from it.wp. The author later uploaded a different (but very similar) file which is now available at Commons: File:San Severo sanlorenzo.jpg.
Are you working on that de.wp category? -- Common Good (talk) 18:50, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Deleted. No not at the moment but I think it would be a good idea to move the files from de-wiki to Commons. I'm working on Category:Files moved from en.wikipedia to Commons requiring review as of 15 April 2011. --MGA73 (talk) 18:54, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
