  • Dear Admin MGA73,

Isn't these two 19th and 16th century images in the public domain? Then the flickr license doesn't really matter...if you know how to change the license. Best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:23, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

I would say yes. I changed to PD-art and PD-art-100. --MGA73 (talk) 12:25, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

"What?"

He's back...

Hey Michael. Per this, I'm afraid he's back. He spontaneously reverted all previous edits (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), with the comment "partially done, what a waste of time", after I already clearly told him in September, that if he wants it changed to discuss it at the Disputes Noticeboard. Along with the reverting, he also made this weird oppose at my recent RFA, which I really do not understand, or know how to address.

What do you think I should do? Completely ignore him and do whatever he wants to do (but he is breaking the categorizations), or repost at DN/ANU? I will wait for your instructions. Kind regards. Rehman 07:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

The problem is that not many users commented on the discussion. I suggest you add a move request (CFD) and then we can let other users help decide what name should be prefered. --MGA73 (talk) 18:34, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Thing is, there is nothing to move (yet). So far he has just jumbled the category order... Rehman 01:26, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
If you find anything you want to move just start a request. At the moment I have no better ideas. Perhaps you could object on the relevant talk page just for the record. --MGA73 (talk) 11:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
I'll reply to their comment on the related talkpage. Thanks for your time. Happy New Year's Eve! :) Rehman

Hey, help me. I hate to celebrate the new year that I consider it's begin of an evil day. Good luck.--俠刀行 (talk) 11:28, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi! It looks ok to me :-) --MGA73 (talk) 11:49, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, as I said it looks ok. So there is nothing to change :-) Only thing: You could perhaps make it more clear when the treaty was signed and when this painting/drawing was made. --MGA73 (talk) 12:07, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

File:The 67th foot storming the Taku Forts, 1860.jpeg

Hi, had better to see this. I can't wait to listen to your comment.--俠刀行 (talk) 13:43, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

I made a few changes. It looks good :-) --MGA73 (talk) 13:51, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

This DR

If you have any views on this DR, please feel free to leave a comment there. Thank You in advance, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:03, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

The file was reviewed so I do not think we need a OTRS. If we think she will be notable in the future I think we should keep the image. If not we could delete. --MGA73 (talk) 11:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
  •  Comment I did review it because the license was 'cc by generic' but the image was most likely a flickrwash. I was not fooled here. Please look at this DR initiated by Fae...he was not fooled either and the image was uploaded by the same person. Also, how could she be notable in future when her wiki article was just deleted. That was the point of my DR note to you. Fae also noticed this in his separate DR request. One cannot predict the future since wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Maybe she will be notable but maybe she will not. --Leoboudv (talk) 21:33, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Death of user

With message on de:WP, User:Yagosaga died at Jan. 1st. Please, can you lock his account ? Antonsusi (talk) 19:48, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Done. This is the sadest thing I have done so far... --MGA73 (talk) 20:10, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Uploads from a website

User:Enviropositive has uploading some good photographs from a www.enviropositive.com. See his contributions. I do not see any copyright licences on that website. He is running into trouble getting deletion requests. Can you put him right about OTRS to verify these uploads? Snowmanradio (talk) 20:59, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Wow they are nice... I left a note for the user. --MGA73 (talk) 21:51, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

File for deletion or keep?

Re: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Great Auk Errol.jpg. We are discussing an image of a painting that was allegedly uploaded by the author of the painting. At the present time the author may not have seen the invitation on his talk page to participate in the discussion, and we are wondering how to proceed. Snowmanradio (talk) 11:25, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Errors in transfers

Thanks for your note. I think I've finished the file moves. If you would be willing to review the photos that belong to me (some moved by me, some by others), they are on display at User:Baseball Bugs/Pics. Since I am new to commons, in terms of real work (account is 2 years old but largely inactive until now), any advice you can give will be appreciated. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots11:50, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Verbandsabzeichen

Hallo.
So File:RakArtLBtl.jpg? --MGA73 (talk) 17:56, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Ja, sooooo ist es richtig. DANKE--L.1951a (talk) 16:54, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there Michael, I need a favor to ask from you. Could you delete the revision of File:SMT.jpg where a user uploaded an image of a band? It's clearly copyrighted. Thanks in advance. :-)ξxplicit 08:12, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure. Done! --MGA73 (talk) 08:35, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Category:Unreviewed images from IndiaFM

Hi, I was asked to review the changes but perhaps you should take a look since you created that page. Thanks Hekerui (talk) 15:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. I do not think the review template is ready yet so I removed some of the changes. --MGA73 (talk) 16:09, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Image Rights

Hi I recently emailed Cinefundas.com (a website which carries out interviews/exclusives with South Indian film stars) about using their images (apart from screenshots) to feature in Wikimedia & Wikipedia content.

They e-mailed back in the positive and said we are allowed to use their stuff as long as a source is provided. What should be my next step? Should I start uploading, or do we need a license created as per Bollywoodhungama.com or filmtadka.in? Universal Hero (talk) 12:37, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi! That sounds good. They should send a permission (see Commons:Email templates) to OTRS where they tell us what we may use and under which free license (a lot to choose from here Commons:Copyright tags). --MGA73 (talk) 17:48, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

re: Renaming

I do not know where the rules are written. Most of the files - this is my standard.

File:<language code>-<correct word> (with diacritics)>.ogg (bots using this when inserting the pronunciation files for wiktionary pages).

I keep this up. I do not know this is a good standard, but standard (Category:Pronunciation - see of the top). // Bubel (dyskusja) 22:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes it seems like there is a standard for the ogg-files. --MGA73 (talk) 18:16, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Question

Hi there MGA73, I am curious if you know if this picture from flickr can be used on commens? Wiki ian 12:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Not unless we get a permission from the Flickr user or the user agrees to change the license. The license is noncommercial and that is not allowed on Commons. --MGA73 (talk) 18:16, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Images uploaded over other images

We probably should have a template for uploaded images over other images, so that they can be added to a "needs repair" or "to do" category. Here is another; File:Kineton St Peters Church.jpg. Snowmanradio (talk) 14:02, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Good idea. Feel free to comment or make changes: Commons_talk:Avoid_overwriting_existing_files#Template_to_add_on_files_that_has_been_overwrited. --MGA73 (talk) 16:37, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Open Cage

There are a few files from Open Cage. Some reviews have difficulty with them as they are not from flick, so I will be grateful if you reviewed them.

Another one:

Images from a website

User:Cele4 has uploaded quite a lot of good images. His user page says that he has a website, and this is where he has been uploading photographs from. There is no OTIS and I am in some confusion about the copyright of his images on commons, since I have not found anything about creative commons on the website. I have nominated one for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Spitzschwanzamadine.jpg. What happens next? Snowmanradio (talk) 22:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

If uploader owns the website we do not need a permission. But it would be nice if we had some sort of proof that user really does control the website. I informed user on home wiki. Hope to hear from him soon. --MGA73 (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
File:Anxietyonwiki_v.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This DR

Is it time to make a decision on this DR now, I wonder? I don't think it can be kept but maybe you have a different opinion. The case seems a bit complex from the keep voter's point. Just curious. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:50, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about the late response. There is more DR's like that being discussed on Admin Noticeboard. I'll have a look later. I doubt we can keep it. --MGA73 (talk) 20:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Comment & Flickr review

Thanks for your reference to Moncton, New Brunswick but this city is in the East coast of Canada while I live on Canad's west coast. I don't know anything in Moncton but thank you anyway. PS: Hopefully, this image can be passed soon. I was 'transcluded' from marking it,

Its causing a lot of open conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

PS: Is there a malfunction in the flickr review bot? It seems to be marking only 1 or 2 images an hour according to this and the backlog is more than 250 photos. Maybe you know if Bryan can fix the glitch. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:08, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

  •  Comment: Thank you for marking the image of the temple. Unfortunately, the flickr backlog is currently more than 500 images now. Just to let you know. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:32, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I'm talking to Bryan as soon as he get on IRC. --MGA73 (talk) 19:01, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

JCB's Keep

A discussion is in progress Commons:Village_pump#wikilawyering_beats_copyright_issues ...Captain......Tälk tö me.. 16:31, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice. --MGA73 (talk) 20:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I have one more post Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#Closing_of_deletion_requests_without_any_valid_reference.2C_or_subject_to_commons_FoP_situation ...Captain......Tälk tö me.. 15:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
@Captain: Can you explain why nobody at all responds to the nomination (done by a troll who has been blocked at EN.wiki and DE.wiki) for five months, nor processes it? And the same day as somebody finally closes the nomination you start immediately shouting around about it? This behaviour seems to have the purpose to make admins affraid to close this type of nominations, because immediately after closure you begin trying to cause personal damage to the acting admin. This behaviour is becoming to be a serious issue, because it disrupts the processes at Wikimedia Commons and it also seems to have that single purpose. Jcb 16:08, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Paradox_hermaph_060924_ltn-captioned.png..???.Commons is giving useful images or images with somebodies thoughts on it...???. This doesn't disrupt the process of commons, if it really why other's are silent...Captain......Tälk tö me.. 10:15, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I hope there is a good reason to keep this file. I asked JCB what is going on. --MGA73 (talk) 20:39, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
It looks like there was a good reason. :-/ --MGA73 (talk) 16:58, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't know in fact whether that image is eligible or ineligible to have a CC-BY-SA license added; es:Wikipedia:Autorizaciones/Banderas_de_Jaume_Ollé only mentioned GFDL, so that's what I added, but I don't know how that interacts with the chronology etc. AnonMoos (talk) 23:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

That depends on when the file was uploaded to Wikipedia/Commons. The reason my bot markes it as ineligible for migration is that there is no information that indicates that it was uploaded on Wikipedia before it was uploaded to Commons. If it was uploaded on Wikipedia before there should be a "Original upload log" with a link to where file was uploaded and when etc. See this file for an example File:207th_Street_Yard_Shops.jpg. You can see the criteria here: Commons:GFDL 1.3 relicensing criteria. --MGA73 (talk) 16:15, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, if that's the criterion, then it isn't eligible -- it wasn't uploaded anywhere on Wikipedia or Wikimedia (that I know about) until 2011. However, Jaume Ollé GFDL-licensed it in 2004, so I wondered if that might be relevant.... AnonMoos (talk) 02:07, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
No, it is time of upload that is relevant in this case. But if someone asked copyright holder he might agree to also license files under cc-by-sa-3.0. :-) --MGA73 (talk) 10:04, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

2 old images

Do you know how to mark these 2 old pictures?

Just curious. Also are models/prototypes like this copyrighted?

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:00, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

I would change the "no known"-license to the relevant "cc"-license and do the review. And leave a note that the license is cc but that the file is PD-old. However, I do not understand that the photo can be from 1883 when the text say the train operated from 1888 to xx. --MGA73 (talk) 10:15, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
And no I do not think that prototypes are protected. They could be protected by some trademark thingie but not by copyright. --MGA73 (talk) 10:17, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Cinefundas.com Images

Hi, I left a message previously stating that Cinefundas.com agreed to provide images. They have now sent the permission slip to OTRS. How long would it be before the permission is checked and approved? Universal Hero (talk) 19:03, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Today the oldest permission is about 2 weeks old and normaly the permissions are taken so the oldest are processed first. I just checked and we have 2 permissions from cinefundas.com now (I merged them to one). I will have a look at them now. --MGA73 (talk) 10:27, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok I looked at the permission and it looks ok. We only need to know if the permission is valid for all files or only the 3 that has been uploaded. If the permission is only valid for some files we need to know which. And perhaps we need to create a special template. --MGA73 (talk) 11:18, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
For example if screenshots are not allowed it could be a good idea with a special template. --MGA73 (talk) 11:19, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I just got a message thet the permission is valid for all files on http://www.cinefundas.com/ :-) --MGA73 (talk) 18:44, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
That's good news, but does that mean any piece of work from the site can be uploaded - I think it's better to stick to just the exclusives they do. Because most other images are taken from other photo shoots/screenshots. Universal Hero (talk) 21:39, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
The answer was "all files" but I agree it would be good to be carefull. --MGA73 (talk) 21:52, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

DS's file moves

Looks to me like he was pretty much in compliance with COM:RENAME#What files should be renamed? criteria 2, for the most part, as 99of9 pointed out. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:23, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Criteria 2 is for names like File:DSC_1342.jpg and not files that just have a short name like File:Kafka.jpg, File:Cat1.JPG, File:Car.jpg etc. --MGA73 (talk) 21:51, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

OTRS

See File:Zebra finch RWD.jpg and other uploaded by the same person. I think that a lot of images uploaded by this contributor should have proof that the website is his. I assume that this is a formality; however, I think it is important to have certitude. Snowmanradio (talk) 19:07, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Normally yes, but in this case I think it is ok. If you visit this page http://carolinabirds.org/HTML/Wikimedia.htm you can click on the link in "My photos tht are on Wikimedia can be found via my profile." and then you end up on User:DickDaniels. So I think it is ok in this case. --MGA73 (talk) 13:21, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

If it does not work we can perhaps find another solution. --MGA73 (talk) 21:33, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
