Welcome to my talk page. If you have any comments re: my work in Commons, this is the place for them. So help yourselves. But, please be civil and polite. Thanks.--User:Lyricmac 06:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Sorry if my deletion of Catedral de Chihuahua was a bit too quick. Wikimedia Commons is a media repository, ie it is made for images, sounds and videos ; there should be no "articles" like on Wikipedia, but only galleries (see Bulk carrier for an example of such gallery). So your article didn't fit the Commons goals, and I had to delete it. However you are very welcome to create a gallery on that topic if there are enough images to do so. Hi. This image may be an unauthorized derivative work, and could be a copyvio. Are you sure that the work of art (not your photographic reproduction) is free or not copyrighted? Thanks--Trixt (talk) 22:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I will assume good faith (but keep in mind that w:Aarón Piña Mora is still alive and that I don't find the rule in Mexican copyright law). Bye--Trixt (talk) 19:20, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reproduction, communication, and distribution by means of drawings, paintings, photographs, and audiovisual means of works visible from public places".--Lyricmac (talk) 16:31, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category syntax[edit]

Hi, when adding categories, remember it's category not category. You were transcluding whole categories. :) Have you tried HotCat.js (an option in preferences)? It makes adding categories much faster. Rocket000(talk) 21:08, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

recatgorizing photos[edit]

I am not eliminating them... I am recategorizing them. Please look at the pages of how to categorize in Wikimedia. The idea is to put photos in the lowest possible category (Category:Chihuahua, Chihuahua) then link up to the more general categories. (See the bottom of the Chihuahua page to see what it links up to) I just kinda learned this myself.... so as Im really bored at work, Im doing what I can to reorganize the categories.Thelmadatter (talk) 17:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

not my rationale[edit]

Its not my rationale.. its Wikimedia's and it makes sense. Who will go through a category like Category:Cities in Mexico if there are 130 photos in it (as there were when I started). Thelmadatter (talk) 17:56, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overcategorization[edit]

Please see Commons:Categories#Over-categorization. There is already consensus as to how to categorize even if there is a huge problem in making that consensus a reality. The problem, in my opinion, is that the system is not obvious to a newbie (or even to someone like me whose been in here for almost 8 months or so) and the tools to help with categorization are not handy. I imagine that it is something that they will find some solution to. Thelmadatter (talk) 21:35, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lyricmac!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Berlin - White Crosses photo[edit]

Lyricmac,

I'm a novelist living in San Antonio, TX, who was stationed in Berlin when the Wall fell in 1989. I've written a novel based upon a scene I witnessed on 10 Nov and the white crosses figure into the story. The book is dedicated to the Unbekannt, 1961-1989, and it's the Unbekannt cross I'm focusing on in your picture.

I'd like permission to use a cropped photo of the crosses you posted on Wiki Common on my Web site and possibly on the dedication page of the book, as well. IAW the conditions of the Creative Commons license, please pass whatever attribution information you prefer that I use.

Many thanks.
