Ik kwam een van uw foto's tegen op een andere website, zonder licentie- of naamsvermelding (maar Wikipedia wordt wel genoemd). Ik weet niet of u dat erg vindt, maar wilde het wel even laten weten. Please help

Hi, I would like to ask for your help again. Some time ago, you helped identify a picture of a flower (Hymenocallis speciosa) however, an anonymous user has changed the description and says its Hymenocallis narcissiflora. What do you think should be done as this picture will soon be features as POTD on wikipedia.

Loc ? Sorry i cant do this. It was taken on a exib where it's only allowed to take pictures for private use. Giving a loc would be a proof, so without a loc, nobody cares ;-) I did a picture of some turtles where the 3rd from left showing a Trachemys scripta elegans but who are the other 2 species shown on the picture ? Blacksmith Lapwing

Your lapwing photo with a lot of space in front of the bird is sensible artistically, but maybe not so sensible for an encyclopedia. Is it possible to crop out some grass in front of the bird, to centre the picture on the bird? I would really like to replace some of the photos of captive birds with your much better photo. Miombo

Miombo forest - South Luangwa Valley.jpg het betrekking: Ek is nie seker dat dit wel Miombo is wat hier uitgebeeld word nie. Die boombas lyk vir my te grof en gegroef. Miombo het redelik gladde bas, meestal met korsmosse bedek. Miskien is dit Mopanie? Indien jy ander fotos van dieselfde boomveld het kan ek miskien beter oordeel. JMK 17:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I am reasonably sure it was Miombo. The trees were quite high, and I don't remember having seen such high mopane. The guide (from the Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia) also told us this was miombo forest. I must confess that I don't know about the bark though. And as I had only a small point-and-shoot camera at the time with small memory card, I don't have extra pictures :-(. Lycaon 23:01, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Issues and thoughts

Confused bot drops load in wrong location

1. Thank you for helping with the QIBot droppings! The bot seems to work better if the gallery tags are left for him/her/it though.
2. I worked for almost 10 years in a restaurant that was listed as a wildlife art gallery. With the exception of one painting of the rear end of a deer (which was hung, interestingly enough, for the viewing pleasure of the non-smoking section) almost all of the paintings had the critters with their heads up and ready to move if necessary. It is an apology for not liking that one single solitary image of yours that I haven't liked. Your choice to accept it or not.
3. I was going to write to TonyWills about changing from playing Tetris to Space Invaders, but it is actually just easier to mention this idea here. Do you have thoughts about this and if so, would you share those thoughts with me?

Well. I thought it is Anthemis arvensis, but now I thinks it`s not. The second one is this strange one, it grew in a quite dry place. Sfu 21:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

My search for where the '(' came from....

I found it here where you were cleaning up the page. I started to look for it thinking that perhaps the bot would choke on it; I ended up deciding that the bot would probably not even recognize it and also seeing that you had been doing some things to keep the nominations in order. While I was searching through the edit diffs, there were a few where I stopped and asked myself -- what the heck was he doing here? And always, when I figured it out it was the right thing.

I figured that the hours that were added to my banning on a different wikipedia could multiply and be used here for whatever I wanted. Bumblebees business

How much do you know about these beasts? I have a couple of questions that I haven't readily found an answer to:

1. ) Do bees grow appreciably once they have emerged from a larvae stage, or are there various sizes dependant on how well fed they were as larvae perhaps?

The reason I ask these strange questions is that we supposably only have 4 species of introduced bumblebees, two of which generally occur in the North Island. All the examples that I have examined closely are of the colour form of 'Bombus terrestris', but there often seems to be two distinct sizes, also some have very thin 'pile'. --Tony Wills 05:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Question and/or killing time

How come you took your diagram of the starfish off from the genus (I think that is where I put it) wikispecies page that I put it on? I thought about it as much as I think about many things before I put it there. Japanese Squirrel

Hi Lycaon, I think you are misunderstanding about Japanese Squirrel. Actually most of Japanese have never seen a Japanese Squirrel because they are never living in a city, in a town. Of course we can see them at zoo but I assume that Japanese Squirrel picture is not a zoo shot. I think that shot is not easy to be taken. Pliny, starfish diagrams and other wiki

I think I just read where Pliny the elder had a huge distaste for both basil and Sardina but don't ask me to find it now.

Your POTD today, I tried to go through the proper channels to determine when and where and even if it is a good idea to use diagrams at wikispecies (like at the genus level) but no one cared to offer any advice or image type hierarchy logic there. My preference for Wikispecies is photographs, and when those are not available I'd go for drawings of animal/plant habituses. Only as a last resort I'd use anatomical drawings. Maybe it is a personal preference, but IMO an anatomical drawing of an A. rubens is not general enough to epitomize a higher taxon. Land legs

It is either the colors of the gif (the animation is condensed from a 2 hour ordeal) or the viewer does not have land legs at the moment of viewing.

An image question

Hi, Hans,
I know you are at sea (lucky you are), so my question could wait. Here's the question. I was at tide pools and took this image of the bubbles. These bubbles behaved as soap bubbles do, except they were lasting foreever including their colors (until next big wave washed them away).The bubbles were all over tide pools. I wonder, if there could be some tide pools animals, or algae, who made that effect by secreting mucus, or some organic material. The colony of Harbor Seals was also in a very close proximity. Wow, that was embarrassing. I'm not too knowledgeable on the different kinds of flamingos, and the SD Zoo website claimed that the exhibit was home to the Caribbean Flamingos. Well, you can only remove a certain type of noise after that you'll be taking out the detail with the noise. recipe for a sleep potion

I used to joke about reading the bash manpage when I needed to sleep but couldn't -- this is however, is becoming a reality when reading the rules in this latin dictionary for suffixi. My goal seems worthwhile to me though; while I truly loved the 1931 (but I thought it was 1933) M. Grieve tome; I loved it as a period piece and atmospheric work and not so much for helpful information. It is now a decade later, the work is online and what I see is so much paste from that book. Paste about Pliny and paste about latin words -- my new short term goal is to re-research this (loaded google search) and I have some insights into latin which need verification; perhaps you can help? This entry makes me think that 'ex' is used to honor the person that was the not recognized (but perhaps the real) authority or author or whatever. I just don't know if this is part of the latin syntax stuff. Also, I search and search for something concise about 'io' as a suffix -- and anything that looks like 'io', but the drowsy falls upon me around the time that I reach the section with the heading "Imperative Mood" (yawn). Does the mood look good or bad? I really like articles for the encyclopedias and categories for the image collections. The thing is, they can both exist. It is silly to only have one or the other -- especially with all of the galleries that exist here which are just pasted lists of images. Pasted lists of images have less information than categories do which at least give a hint at the filename and size. Category are my preference, but both can exist.
