Salut Pierre André. Désolé pour ce délai mais je ne vois ton message que maintenant (enfin : je ne peux y répondre que maintenant...). Je ne vois pas trop l'utilité de cette modif' et elle n'a pas été faite avec ma(mes) catégorie(s) alors que ça ressemble aux tiennes et que, si je ne m'abuse, tu t'en es inspiré. Créer une page à ton nom permet d'y mettre ce que tu veux et ce n'est pas une mauvaise idée.

Oui, j'étais en vacances et suis en arrêt maladie à cause d'un bête infarctus, mon permis PL étant suspendu. Mais ça va bien, je suis quasiment guéri .

Bonsoir LW² \m/ Je n'ai rien compris à cette modif' apportée par un tiers, elle a été supprimée, puis rajoutée puis retirée, par je ne sais quel wikipedien. Effectivement en ce qui concerne la présentation de mes catégories, je précise sur ma page "Pays visités": D'après une présentation de Llann Wé², qui est très sympa et que je remercie pour son imagination.

Je suis heureux de te savoir rétabli! il est vrai que la vie nous joue parfois des tours. Personnellement je souffre d'hypertension depuis de très nombreuses années et mon médecin préfère me voir tous les mois. Je te souhaite donc un parfait rétablissement et une bonne continuation. J'en ai pour 6 mois, minimum... Comme disait ma grand-mère, on a l'âge de ses artères et les miennes sont encrassée par le cholestérol, donc régime sans saucisson, sans côte de bœuf, sans crème fraîche, sans comté et autres saloperies bien grasses (dixit le cardio...). Moralité, tout ce qui est bon n'est pas bon... Mique alors ! Bon, ça pourrait me laisser plus de temps pour Commons mais mes PC sont HS (XP et Vista...) et n'arrêtent pas de planter au bout 10-15mn... Ce qui explique mon absence (pour ne pas dire obsolescence...).

Si tout a été rétabli (je n'ai pas regardé l'histo), ne te formalise pas, certains utilisateurs croient dur comme fer qu'ils suivent à la ligne les recommandations des Wikis, mais ce n'est pas toujours le cas. Néanmoins, une page à ton nom ne nuit pas ; tu peux même y transférer tes promotions d'images afin de soulager ta PdD sur laquelle un lien vers cette page, en bandeau, dirigera le curieux (à moins que tu ne veuilles garder en l'état). À c epropos, tu peux aussi nominer des images d'autres utilisateurs.

Je te souhaite de bonnes visites chez ton doc en souhaitant que tu suives ton régime de médocs (moi, 6/jour) afin que cela ne te soit pas trop pénible et te rétablisse rapidement.

Bonsoir LW² \m/ . À propos du cholestérol je crois tout le monde en fait + ou -. Bigre tu en as pour 6 mois, minimum, ça n'est pas évident. Quoique les médecins sont bien souvent sujets aux lobbys pharmaceutiques ; j'ai longtemps été sous "logimax" et puis un beau jour mon toubib m'a dit de tout arrêter... Maintenant je m'efforce de suivre le même régime que le tien ! On s'y habitue et ça n'empêche pas un petit restaurant de de temps en temps avec des amis, l'essentiel est de ne pas abuser et surtout de ne pas faire d'excès.

Merci une fois encore pour tous tes bons conseils, je commence a piger les arcanes wikipédiennes ... Courage à toi, j'aurai une pensée pour toi je pars quelques jour au VVF Villages de Saint-Cast-le-Guildo faire un stage de randonnées. Bon rétablissement. Salut Pierre André. Mon cholestérol est dû à la cigarette et je n'en avais aucune trace il y a deux ans... La cochonnaille et autre beurre au gros sel de Noirmoutier ne me sont pas interdits mais doivent rester exceptionnels.

St-Cast n'est pas si près de chez moi (160km) mais moins loin que ton port d'attache habituel... Il y a de belles choses à voir dans ce coin et, te connaissant, tu vas rentrer avec une carte SD pleine de souvenirs, dont les nombreux finistères du 22  ! Les photos que j'ai faites dans les environs, il y a 6 mois, sont toujours dans mon disque dur et n'ont pas encore atteint Commons (toujours ces problèmes de PC). Bonnes randonnées. Au-delà du compliment, c'est surtout une reconnaissance du boulot impressionnant que tu as abattu pour la catégorisation des images concernant cette brave Deuche. Hercule était un petit joueur, à côté, avec ses douze travaux
Si je puis me permettre de t'indiquer / te rappeler une technique de feignasse (j'assume totalement ce statut ) : pas la peine de mettre, par exemple, Fredcar en clé de tri pour la catégorie Fredcar vehicles, puisque le tri se fait sur la première lettre du nom de la catégorie lorsqu'il n'y a pas de clé. C'est pour ça que je n'ai rien mis à ce propos lorsque j'ai créé la catégorie.

Concerts

Because the category name was misleading. If you're the photographer you'd better name the category something like "Photographs of concerts by xxxx" or "Concert photographs by XXX" (and make it a non-topical, hidden, category). The category "Concerts of" (and its redirect "Concerts by") are for the concerts of [band name]. Category Keys

Hey, I've seen you've been adding keys to categories concerning results from German WP-project "Festivalsommer". Unfortunately you've been adding whitespaces in front of some of the keys, so the sorting (which is what keys are for) is nuked. --LeoDE (talk) 21:16, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

What do you mean by "unfortunately..."?

A space as first 'letter' of sortkey situates the category at the top of the list and if you take a look at hundreds heavy metal bands categories in concert they are almost all like that, not only German Project cat's... If you want to change back 1 or 2 cat's you'll have to do it for thousand cat's sorted with this space. I don't know who started this kind of sorting but it's not me, I just do as it I saw it is.

Would you please stop doing that or alternatively deliver a good reason why there should be a whitespace? "It has been done like that in many cases" is no good reason! • I answered you about why I used a 'whitespace': because someone else did it before me and, as usual in Commons, I do the same of what is done;
• You didn't say why you didn't ping me at Admin's noticeboard;
• At Admin's noticeboard I didn't wrote YOU wasn't polite but the other German users who went on my talkpage to scold me;
• If you think 'whitespaces' are not good try Category:Concerts by musician or musical group with the sortkey that pleases you...
• I didn't reply sooner because I've got many more important things to do IRL.

• Yeah, that was what you did - and I wanted to know a reason aside of that, because "others do it" isn't a good reason. Others jump from bridges, but it isn't a good idea anyways. As I already mentioned, this was a mistake originally and was not intended!
• I did: I don't want to blame someone when he does great work otherwise...
• Okay, I misunderstood you there.
• I don't know what you mean: In the Category you mentioned all SortKeys are properly set.
• That's no problem - I do as well

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est de retour et ouvert jusqu'à 31 septembre ! Déjà 8310 photos ont été importés cette année, vous aussi rejoignez le concours !

Le concours concerne tous les monuments présents dans la base Mérimée (qu'ils soient classés, inscrits ou simplement classés). De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la chapelle au coin de la rue aux mégalithes en forêt, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Où que vous soyez il y a des monuments autour de chez vous. Enfin, vous pouvez mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments. Pour information, le règlement est disponible sur le site du concours. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !

Les plus belles photos seront sélectionnées par un jury national composé d'amateurs et de professionnels, de contributeurs à Wikimedia Commons et d'acteurs du patrimoine. Un jury international sélectionnera ensuite des meilleures photographies mondiales.

Si vous avez des questions, l'équipe organisatrice se fera un plaisir d'y répondre.

Hello Llann Wé², Hope you're well,
I've noticed on a few occasions you've misidentified vehicles (IE you identified this van as a Ford Transit when it obviously isn't a Ford),
If you're unsure of the make/model you can add them to Category:Unidentified vans as I patrol that category regularly :),

Hi again @Davey2010: About vans, I saw this kind of trucks in Category:Unidentified vans; do you think these old-vintage-historical (choose the best, plz) trucks are "Vans" or "Box rigid trucks"? Were they called vans in this time? English's your native language, not me and I've some lacks with some technical terms. So each night when I'm sorting I discover many new cat's but sometimes I forget all the next day... And I often don't know if it's the same word in English, American or Commons... If you see some of my mistakes (in English or sorting), go on tell me, it won't bother me.

Hi Llann, Good question, From what I can gather the term "van" came into use around 1940s-1950s I believe (this is a 1955 van), Vehicles such as the one you linked would've be called "Wagons" I believe, The majority of what's in "Unidentified vans" aren't vans but would be Wagons (or maybe trucks),

If you're asking if they're vans or Box rigid trucks then personally I'd say neither ?, Both terms weren't used not until 1970-1980s,

Personally I think everything pre-1970s should be removed from that category as I don't think they'd of been classed as "box rigid" in those days,

@Davey2010: So I hope I'll be clear enough... As I saw in the cat's I've visited, this is a wagon rigid truck (cat'ed) as descripted in c:Category:Wagon trucks, a covered (uncat'ed) one. Wagons are flatbed with sides, titiling or not, and "dumpless" (?) and was used for horse-drawn 4-wheeled carrying chariots (covered or open). I guess for box trucks, box and cab are separated counter to box vans in the same body so this one has more the box van's silhouette than the box truck's. In France, vans are fourgonnettes and camionettes, and box vans are fourgon all assimilated as trucks (camions) in current use, but trucks are more than 3,5T. So this is a pickup and this is a wagon. Salut @Pierre André Leclercq: merci pour ta sollicitude ! Ayant eu, comme bon nombre, du temps libre, récemment, j'ai fait un peu de tri de photos, pour certaines prises il y a de plus de 5 ans et oubliées dans un tiroir d'un de mes HDD ; mon PC et son Win XP devenu obsolète, j'ai laissé tombé par dépit de sa lenteur de réaction et ça me grrrr! car j'ai un autre HDD qui n'apparaît plus sur le bureau, dans lequel il y a d'autres photos en souffrance. Là, je suis avec un vieux portable, sous Ubuntu, mais lent lui aussi sinon, j'en eu versé plus pour WLM... Effectivement, j'ai eu la surprise du gentil paragraphe ci-dessus pour cette photo (ma modestie en prend un coup).

Côté santé, merci de t'en soucier, c'est bon ; les seules séquelles de mon infarctus sont 6 médocs journaliers...

@Llann Wé²:  Thank you. pour ta réponse, ça va pour moi sinon mes problèmes de sénior âgé de + 75 ans (arthrose, HBP, et une pointe de diabète), Comme tu le dis heureusement qu'il y a les médocs, encore qu'il ne faut pas trop en abuser, pour leurs effets secondaires. Personnellement je m'active beaucoup dans les campagnes lancées dans Wikipédia, elles occupent bien mon temps surtout "Wikipedia Asian Month" et "le Mois américain Wikipédia" (mais je suis très en retard). Lors de ces campagne j'y ai croisé quelques uns de tes filleuls à qui en MP j'avais demandé de tes nouvelles (en vain). Avec ce foutu virus, prends bien soin de toi. Cette campagne de contribution concerne tous les monuments et objets mobiliers présents dans la base Mérimée et dans la base Palissy. De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la verrière décorative au reliquaire, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Categorisation of snow thrower trucks

Hello Llann Wé²,

would you please stop these edits? The Category:D-902 is allready contained in Category:Snow thrower trucks, so this is a clear case of what not to do per COM:OVERCAT. Same goes for the images in Category:D-470.

Also, this is not a box rigid truck. The back of the truck is an engine compartment only, there is no space for cargo. If you do not know the technical details, please do not just put categories on it per assumption.

Thanks a lot for your advices and corrections, it's very kind.

Overcat is better than no cat or wrong cat, I guess.

Every one can make mistakes and every one may correct them without saying "stop!" (some users don't care/know and drop pics in the first cat they find and I don't cry stop each time I have to move files). It'd be better to say "thank you for all your job but you're wrong for some edits", or something cool like that... I'm sure I won't "stop that" because I started to sort all category:Trucks by brand (after it'll be category:Trucks by manufacturer even if some are the same but not all), but I think I've completed 'snow throwers' and other 'snow removal trucks', except if I find unsorted ones. I've started C brands so I'm far from Ural or Zil... But be sure I'll cross back some of bad sorted files when I'll be sorting. Then I'll move or remove them.

In which category do you suggest to classify it? It's a shape of box truck, not a flatbed, not a wagon, not a curtainside... English is not my mother language, so sometimes I can't find the good cat or create a unexisting one (may be Google knows all technical terms but may be I don't ask him correctly, who knows...), so if you know the right word, please don't hesitate to move or create the good cat if not exist, it'll help me and other users.

I would have ask much more politely, if you would not have done the exact same edit on the same files twice and undo my edits in between without any comment, where I've already had it fixed ones and tried to point out the problem. Otherwise I would not have contacted you - I did not at the first time. I can also not predict whether you are done on the snow removal truck topic or the same thing happens all over again tomorrow. But I am not willing to continue doing things more than ones for no good reason. So - here we are, talking about it. No hard feelings.

You use cat-a-lot, please check your results for OVERCAT with the tool. That is only two clicks (in case you did not know). This is not too much efford to ask for, I believe. There is really no good reason to put it away for later. Other users (like me) do not know whether you come back later and fix it, and might find it necessary to do the job meanwhile. And this is absolutly not about crying or that I do not appreciate hard working users like you - do not get me wrong on that.

The truck is a snow thrower. Nothing else, no additional classification needed. It is it's only purpose. The vehicle's is not designed for hauling cargo, so the file should not be in a cargo truck category. Even if it might look on the first glance like a box truck - it is not. In the classification that we use over here in Germany, it would not even be a truck, regardless that it is built on a truck chassis. It would be considered a self-propelled working machine, just like a harvester or a street sweeper. That is not the English view of things, but it is not a box truck for shure.

I agree with you for many things but as you know Commons, it's better to create the right cat when you see some of these 'errors', so any one can see (and/or discover) the sensible category for the next of this kind of "things". In France too it's not a truck, it's a Schneepflug even if it blows or pushes the snow. Many of what Commons sees like trucks are not trucks in French but we have to manage with. In France, 'trucks' (camions) is for more than 3.5t ; under 3.5t (or 8t -we won't quibble) that's commercial vehicles (utilitaires), like pickups are, but all pickups are "pickup trucks" for Commons and not "pickup commercial vehicles" for small ones.

As I wrote above, "box" is more about the shape than the use. Feel free to sort them only in 'Service vehicles' and out of 'Trucks', it'll be ok for me.

About Overcat: I used it but it only shows overcat files, it doesn't show which cats are duplicate so we have to search for hours and sometimes doesn't give any overcat even if there's some. Example: this cat is in '6x6 military trucks' and '6x6 military trucks' is in 'six wheeled trucks' and some of these files are in 'six wheeled trucks' but Overcat doesn't find any overcat... So, that's why I don't use Overcat...

I actually have no desire to change the snow thrower truck category and remove it from the truck category tree. That will most likely turn into a general discussion I am not willing to deal with, simply because I do not have the time or the nerval strength to participate in the way it would be required. The problem of the different definitions of what a "truck" is, when comparing Europe and America, are obvious and for shure as old as commons.

The snow thrower picture is contained in the service truck category through the category structure, that's good enough for me at the moment. I've checked the box rigid truck category briefly and could not find any other service vehicles that do not carry at least a bit of cargo or a lot of equipment (like fire engines). Nor did I see snow thrower trucks. I would go with the english article in this case, also because it seems that there are more languages with a simular situation. Is there no french article about box trucks? Maybe it is sorted wrong on wikidata?

Overcat is not flawless - I know. But it would have easily caught the things we are talking about now. It is additional work if you find a wrong categorised picture - that is true. But if you've put it there first, than it would be only fair to do the work, also if it takes time, I believe.

What can I say ?...

In French, we use box (fourgon) for the shape: 'box van' and, as you have in Germany, some of them are not for cargo but for Handwerker tools (WV Crafter...), or police, ambulances, armoured vans, service vans... not uniquely for moving goods...

We don't have wiki-page for 'fourgon' (box shape), it's camionnette'/'Kleintransporter'; both point to 'van' in EN.

But, 'fourgon' is a large term for us: camionnette/Lieferwagen = van, fourgonnette/Kastenwagen = van, fourgon = box van, fourgon bâché = covered wagon, fourgon frigorifique = refrigerated box... But every French (except me -lol) call that camion (truck) because it's more simple, but 'camion' (in good French), or 'poids-lourd' (LKW), is for more than 3.5t. In Commons, each time there's the term box, it's the shape. for all, not only for cargo... Compacting waste collection trucks have abox shape too. So, snow thrower as a shape of box (ok, I won't bother you more with that...). Just to say we don't call things the same in all countries. German is better (and a little bit complicated) because all the meaning is in one word.

When I started here, I had to learn new words; It still remains now but I have a bad memory for english technical terms I only use on Commons; sometimes I miss or melt them... I've started a list French/English but I lost it...

Salut, @Renardo la vulpo: cette modif' est volontaire car la couleur d'un véhicules ne donne pas son type/modèle. Quelqu'un cherchant n'importe quel modèle de Roman sans en connaître le modèle commencera par cette catégorie mère avant d'aller chercher dans toutes les couleurs proposées. De plus, en étant rangé dans la couleur, ça laisse entendre qu'il est classé dans la catégorie du modèle. Je viens de créer 2 cats qui résolvent ce problème.

• BTW, I was surprized to see you placing military truck types into "Green something". Mind you, military trucks don't have to be green or even greenish, they can be white, they can by sand-colored, they can have a camo pattern apllied etc. Also, AFAIK on Commons the practice is only to use "Green something" for bright colors and not olive drab.   I do what I know. Generaly I zoom on pics I have a doubt and if I don't know I put them in mother cats I know. Sometimes with CatALot or manual search I discover cats I can't guess but I'm not a pro, I should not be enough precise for some but I'll do my best. Sometimes I miss... Sometimes I don't find the right cat... i don't know all, I learn every day. And I meet cool guys.

  I'm glad you talk about that. Because there's no color for military vehicles (or I dindn't found it...) I wanted to create a 'Military coloured vehicles' without giving any color, just move all beige, green, white (as some UN vehicles), etc, including 'camouflage' to have only one color cat but only files without color cat. That's why I dropped many files in green because I think I won't go back to the trucks brands I've already sorted (A & B done, C in progress).

  Do you agree with this idea of color? Is it better to ask at the VP?

  I don't know Russian brands (not better than US ones) so I do many changes of type/models, only cabs, colors, functions.

  • I don't think that creating such a "military coloured" category would be useful for anyone, it is going to duplicate regular military truck categories and likely lead to overcategorization IMHO. Hello Llann, thank you for categorizing automobiles and trucks. I've seen a lot of new categories at my images ... and I had to fix a lot. Please: Categories like Category:Automobiles facing left are for orientation, Category:Side views of automobiles for view. So it isn't a good idea to move images from Category:Automobiles facing left to Category:Side views of automobiles. They should be copied. (BTW: An image with an automobile facing left/right can be e member of side views or three-quarter views.) On the other hand it is not a good idea to add images to Category:Side views of automobiles, if they are already in Category:Side views of Volkswagen automobiles. This is overcategorization. Please read COM:OVERCAT. And the last one: If you add categories like Category:Red Terex trucks, please create them. It isn't a good way to add red links. --XRay 💬 05:49, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

You do useful work, but sometimes a bit too hasty. I see that you added the category:Images with watermarks to several images. In February you added such a category to this file. But if you cat this pic as hood ornament I guess you'll have to do the same with almost all the files in Category:Logos of vehicles & subs because many badges are pined on hoods...
