Images from "Quebec en images"
[edit]Hi, images from http://www.ccdmd.qc.ca/Quebec/ aren't in the public domain by nature, the "Rights of Use" prohibit commercial use: "Any commercial use of the images from the Quebec en images website is subject to a special agreement between the person making the request, the CCDMD and the owner of the rights." Images that cannot be used commercially aren't suitable for Commons (see Commons:Criteria for inclusion). Unless these images are your own work they are wrongly licensed. However the source have to be different then as well. It seems that these images have to be deleted unless you get the permission to use the images commercially from the author(s). --Baikonur 12:08, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- What a crying shame. But, thanks for telling me; I think you might be right. I guess asking to the Québec en images webmaster won't help, hum? Well, I probably could put the pics on the English Wikipedia... Is it okay to put such very high resolution on the main English Wikipedia? Also, can you direct me to a style manual or cheif example of an "additional pictures page" for the main English Wikipedia? I know such things were done before the commons; are they still allowed now? Well, thanks for the advice. --Liberlogos 17:56, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Also, couldn't the Commons create a second category for such pics that cannot be used commercially but canbe used for educational purposes? I don't think it would be wrong or contradictory... Wikipedia IS essentially destined to help educate, and this would, I think, help educate. --Liberlogos 18:24, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I guess asking to the Québec en images webmaster won't help, hum? I don't think so, because you have to get the permission from the owner of the rights. What about making your own free images? Of course you can upload your images on the English Wikipedia independent of the resolution, because MediaWiki 1.4 rescales them automatically, but in my opinion the goal is to create a really free encyclopedia and that includes commercial use. Otherwise the German DVD version wouldn't have been possible for example. Ask your last question at Commons:Village pump. Best regards --Baikonur 20:51, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Image Tagging Image:Trois Rivieres-Monastery.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Trois Rivieres-Monastery.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Liberlogos. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Liberlogos~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
