African statuette[edit]

Please come see and support the alt if you like it. --IdLoveOne (talk) 19:16, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Awesome! The crop is a lot better (great suggestion by H.F.S.P. and others)! I switched my support to the alternate version. Looks like it will make its way smoothly to the featured list. LeavXC (talk) 02:47, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not black and white[edit]

Hi LeavXC, I am not sure you will read my response to your oppose vote on my image, but this is not black and white image. Neither special filter nor special post-processing were used. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:26, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any complaints with necessary post-processing (it's a major part of digital photography). However, the picture contains little or no color (hence it is a monochrome or black-and-white photo). Perhaps you used the "Monochrome" Picture Style setting on your Rebel XTi? It is a quality photograph, but, in my opinion, it does not quite reach Featured Pictured quality in terms of educational value and representation. Sorry. - Regards, LeavXC (talk) 04:24, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, IMO it does have educational value exactly because no special settings were used, and the image came out the way it did. I did not use "Monochrome". Please tell nobody, but I have no idea what it is and how to use it. . The image shows how images come out, when they are taken against the relatively low winter sun. There's nothing to be sorry about of course. You are entitled to your opinion, but once again nothing special was done neither during taking the image nor in post processing that was very limited. If you're to respond, may I please ask you to respond here? I'll check on your response myself. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 04:30, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comments Nice detail and lighting. There is some chromatic aberration on the bottom of rocks down low, but IMO it is within the acceptable bounds. --99of9 12:57, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LeavXC!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
