File:St. George slaying the dragon. Street art in Batumi, Georgia.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open![edit]

Dear Kober,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,

Daily gallery updater has failed on User:Kober/Georgia[edit]

Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:Kober/Georgia, has failed. Due to software limitations, the bot has a hard upper-limit of about 6000 files per day (including overflow galleries), while your gallery had 18051 files.

This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).

Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.

Some questions[edit]

Hello Kober, didn't speak with you long time. Anyway, I have done some work on articles about Georgia and have some questions. I have seen that some article become bigger.

Ttranslation of the bible to Georgian[edit]

In the main article about Georgia in he.wiki it was mentioned that the first bible (may be the Hebrew Bible?) translated to Georgian in the 5th century. I have been asked provide a source in the he.wiki. The article Georgian scripts says: "contemporaneously with the Armenian alphabet. It was first used for translation of the Bible and other Christian literature into Georgian, by monks in Georgia and Palestine." but that fact is not very clear there. Can you help with that. -- Geagea (talk) 23:45, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Krtsanisi[edit]

The article become bigger and I translated to Hebrew. But I have two major questions:

  • In the article Battle of Krtsanisi it's says: "it also showed that Russia's own ambitions and agenda were set as the most important reason for Russia not to intervene at Krtsanisi, even though the latter had officially declared in the Treaty of Georgievsk" which means, if I understand correcly that Russia prefer weak Georgia that makes her easy to annexation? does it is the meaning? do you agree with that? does all the scholars agree with that?
  • In the article Battle of Krtsanisi it's says: "After that, it is said that some traitors informed the Persians that the Georgians had no more strength to fight and the Qajars army cancelled their plan of going back to Persia, which they previously had." what that mean is said. Who said? Do you agree with that also?-- Geagea (talk) 23:45, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bagrationi dynasty[edit]

I improved the article about Bagrationi dynasty but have problem with en:Bagrationi dynasty#Bagrationi today section. The relations between the branches, why the info template says that "Current head" (disputed). Can you make it clearer?-- Geagea (talk) 23:45, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that the new version of this file that you have uploaded is not cropped from [[1]]. Would you mind sharing the source? Iamnhaz (talk) 22:30, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Iamnhaz: I uploaded the file ages ago. Unfortunately, I did not remember the source. I will let you know if I find the one. Regards, --Kober (talk) 15:55, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I added an alternative source. Why do you think that identification is correct in your source? Hunu (talk) 11:36, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's more reliable and I have seen this photo in printed academic books.--Kober (talk) 15:37, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please make a link for the academic book. 109.252.90.112 18:43, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot make a link because, as I mentioned, it is a printed book. Regrettably, I don't have it at hand right now. But look at the two online sources; one is an academic project which hosts articles written by professional historians, the other (kviris palitra) is semi-tabloid. Here is another source (published by a respected Georgian think-tank) which supports identification with Dariani-Bakradze. --Kober (talk) 18:48, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

St Simon the Canaanite church[edit]

Hi! Regarding File:Abkhazia Christian monuments 1899 23.jpg, do you think it's the church of St Simon the Canaanite in New Athos? Thanks for uploading File:Skhvilo Castle, Georgia.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. Kakutsa Cholokashvili[edit]

Hello Kober, how are you? Just wondering the article in ka.wiki says clarly that Cholokashvili was the deputy of defence minister in DGR (იყო საქართველოს დემოკრატიული რესპუბლიკის თავდაცვის მინისტრის მოადგილე) from 1919. But it's inconsistent with the decription in the English article. -- Geagea (talk) 00:09, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Geagea, I'm fine. I hope you are doing well. It turns out Cholokashvili never actually occupied this position. This information comes from the historian Levan Urushadze,[1] who himself edited the Georgian Wikipedia article on Cholokashvili, but it was examined by Dimitri Silakadze and dismissed as unverifiable and erroneous.[2] --Kober (talk) 04:26, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kober for the informative answer. And another question: in ka.wiki it mentioned that he was an adjutant to the General gubermator of Batum Oblast just after Tbilisi was occupied by the red army (იყო ბათუმის ოლქის გენერალ-გუბერნატორის, ბენიამინ ჩხიკვიშვილის ადიუტანტი). -- Geagea (talk) 07:36, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin Vardzia[edit]

Hi Kober, small question. What would be correct in Georgian "ვარძიის ღვთისმშობლი" or "ვარძა ღვთისმშობლი" or maybe "ღვთისმშობლი ვარძია". -- Geagea (talk) 12:52, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The correct Georgian spelling would be ვარძიის ღვთისმშობელი. --Kober (talk) 14:23, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ოთხთავი[edit]

Hi Kober,

Just wondering about the term ოთხთავი. It means "Four Gospels"? Is that means that there are physical 4 gospels? Does all the ოთხთავი are gospels of the Four Evangelists and part of Tetraevangelion?
Also Bichvinta Gospels, Mokvi Gospels and Vani Gospels are ოთხთავი but Anbandidi Gospel is just a gospel (სახარება)? -- Geagea (talk) 12:38, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. ოთხთავი as a collection always contains the four Gospels and in this regards is a Tetraevangelion. The titles of these Georgian collections can be translated in English in different ways. For example, the Adishi Gospels is a ოთხთავი = Tetraevangelion. --Kober (talk) 15:32, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So Bichvinta Gospels, Mokvi Gospels and Vani Gospels are also Tetraevangelions? 22:02, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes, they were. --Kober (talk) 09:38, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Than you very much for all your answers. -- Geagea (talk) 23:24, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HI. It is just male monastery or male convent, literally, "a monastery of the fathers". --Kober (talk) 20:29, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vani Gospels[edit]

Hi again Kober,

The most reasonable that I didn't understand it correctly. The article in en.wiki says "The manuscript was composed at the queen Tamar of Georgia's request by the Georgian monk John the Unworthy at the Rhomana Monastery at Constantinople." But the article in ru.wiki says it was written by George the Hagiorite and John the Unworthy claim that he wrote it. -- Geagea (talk) 14:31, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Geagea. The Russian article actually says that the text of the Gospels was initially edited by George the Hagiorite, but the Vani manuscript was based on that text and copied by John the Unworthy. --Kober (talk) 15:11, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Daily gallery updater has failed on User:Kober/Georgia[edit]

Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:Kober/Georgia, has failed. Due to software limitations, the bot has a hard upper-limit of 2000 files per page. After the new edit, the page would have reached 2007 files.

This usually happens because a gallery is too broad or because the galleries need to encompass a shorter timeframe. Please review your settings and request an appropriate change to your gallery. The logs are available here.

Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your the bot owner will remove the gallery altogether.

Help with Georgian word[edit]

Hi, I'm a user from Italy, I write you because I see you're an active user from Georgia with a good level of English. I can't read Georgian (yet), so I need to translate it with online dicionaries. But I have troubles in understanding the word საყდარი. I have some pictures of this little church I want to upload: იგოეთის წითელი საყდარი; but I'm not sure how to name the category in English. Also apparently the church is dedicated to Saint George (I found this information on OpenStreetMap), but the Wikipedia article does not mention it. Can you confirm it? Thank you very much if you can help me. :-) --Phyrexian ɸ 14:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Phyrexian: Hello and thanks for your uploads. In modern Georgian, საყდარი (saq'dari) is simply synonymous with a church (although it also has a now-obsolete meaning of a cathedral and, even older, of a throne). Hence, the literal translation of the name of this church would be "the Red Church of Igoeti". I think that's how the category can be named. In fact, the Red Church is a more popular name, but the church appears to be dedicated to St. George according to at least one printed source I have just checked. Hope this helps, --Kober (talk) 16:16, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the explanation. This meaning was what I sort of understood from online dictionaries, but I was not sure. If "Red Church" is the most popular name I will use it as the name for the category. Also, if you like, you can see all my uploads from Georgia in this category. Maybe you find something useful for articles; or if you find some mistakes in names or categorization, please let me know. :-) --Phyrexian ɸ 17:37, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vakhtang Kikabidze's Family Tree is inaccurate[edit]

Hi Kober, Do you remember where you got this information from? Was it from Vakhtang Kikabidze's family? Princess Olga Amirejibi was not the daughter of Prince Giorgi Amirejibi and Princess Sophio Magalashvili. I asked Chabua Amirejibi's niece (an ancestor of Giorgio and Sopio) on a DNA matching service and she said Giorgi Darispanis Amirejibi only had 4 children and Olga was 100% not one of them. She said Olga must have been the daughter of another Giorgi Amirejibi which she said was a common name in the family.

I know the information you published was before Iuri Chikovani's book on the Amirejibi family which you can find online at the Georgian National Archives which confirms what I said. I could not find any Olga Amirejibi in that book however unfortunately.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abashidzestuff (talk • contribs) 23:15, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Honestly, I don't even remember to have ever done it. If you think any information in the family tree is inaccurate, you are welcome to correct it, citing reliable published sources. Kind regards, Kober (talk) 05:01, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
