I cropped it to a 6:1 ratio now, and as for the perspective problems, in the first version I had added 20 pincushion distortion to make the bridge less bulging (it's what happens when you have such a wide view), but I have now removed it so that the sides are more natural. Also, the blurred flag is not a stitching error, but rather an inevitable result of a long exposure. --King of Hearts 07:18, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image nomination[edit]

Hi King of Hearts, As you know I just nominated an image and within minutes I was informed by you that it might not pass because the image doesn't have enough pixels. Since the subject of the image is very small, a butterfly, it still can be viewed with astounding resolution and detail. I am hoping that discretion plays a role in deciding if the image will pass. Unfortunately, there are very few cases where we are willing to bend our 2 MP limit (such as animations, videos, and historical images, and even those need a very strong mitigating circumstances). If you look at Commons:Featured pictures/Animals/Arthropods, you can see that we have many pictures of insects and other small animals that meet or exceed the minimum. (By the way, the few that are under 2 MP were usually promoted in 2006 or something, when the standards were more lax.) --King of 07:06, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously I'm new to nominating pictures. I was under the impression that subject, composition, sharpness, good color and tone were the primary considerations while technical considerations were secondary. i.e.If the picture is a great picture -- it's great, regardless if it has 1, 2 or 3 MB's of pixels. The point of an FP set is to showcase a series of highly related pictures. For example, if an old booklet had 16 pages, then we might have an FP set consisting of scans of those 16 pages. Or, for example, a genus has only five known species and you are nominating a set of those five (though even in that case, separate nominations may be more appropriate). The point is that if I downsampled to 3 MP, which is above the minimum requirement, it would clearly be good enough. And downsampling can only decrease the amount of detail in an image. Technical assistance in filemoves for names that are taken by redirects[edit]

I'm addressing you as a recently-active en-speaker Admin, 16 of my uploads were renamed yesterday in a series of multiple identical acts by one of our users, and I now naturally must fix them back (given that the names which had existed prior to those acts were valid and that the renaming was invalid). The problem is that my filemove feature isn't helpful here because in each of the renames the superseded filename was automatically converted to a redirect page which makes the restoration to it fail (you get a "The name you have specified exists"). And these are:
[1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16].
I messaged another Admin yesterday with this pressing request, however no action has been so far taken and the files are still corrupt and I'm unhappy; if I'm granted the delete tool I can manage this by kicking the redirs as easy as I edit categories, but since I can't delete the redirs it's all about getting you repairing it.
