Hello, Kiefer.Wolfowitz!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Kiefer Wolfowitz.jpeg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Improving uploads[edit]

I failed to see the option for uploading an improved version of a file.

I have requested deletions/mergers of the inferior uploads.

Please accept my apologies for typos in file titles and duplication.

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Major thirds tuning guitar chords 1.pdf. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 16:52, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much.
I have tried to correct my own mistake, at times by alerting the community or administrators when I need help. This seems to be a nice community, and I thank you for your help.
Sincerely,  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 18:19, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's certainly much more mellow and friendly here than on en.wiki. It's much harder to argue and fight over images; and with all the different nationalities represented here, an argumentitive American, Brit, or Frenchman probably sees something he wants to get pissy over, discovers that his potential opponent only speaks Dutch, Russian, or German, and says fuck! and goes about his business instead. Also POV, ownership, experience, referencing, and all the other contentious things on en.wiki have few or no counterparts here on Commons. Anyways I hope we'll see more of you here in the future, and if you need anything drop me a line. INeverCry 21:11, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So far everybody has been reasonable.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 14:43, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't seem to contain any vector data, so you might as well just upload the PNG instead. AnonMoos (talk) 03:49, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The PNG files use too much memory, and so the Commons gives too coarse images to the articles on en:WP.
I pasted from my pdf into Inkscape, but there must be a better method.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 14:27, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you mean about "too much memory"; as long as you keep PNG dimensions under 12,500,000 pixels (e.g. a square 3,535 pixels to a side) there should be no problem. Putting a PNG in an SVG or PDF really doesn't help with Wikipedia/Wikimedia display. If you're desperate to avoid PNG, try GIF or a JPEG. If your PDF files are in vector format, then try to capture this vector source into a vector SVG. But we won't send you to the glue factory regardless... -- AnonMoos (talk) 15:17, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to re-animate a computer with Linux, so it should be easier to produce SVG files.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 10:29, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
AnonMoos SVG format is really the best for schemas or draw. raster picture should be used only for photos, screen capture or graphics that can't be in a vector format. JPEG is really the worse format except for photos because of lost in compression.
If you need some help to create your SVG, I can try to do that. send me your files.--Tiger66 (talk) 17:35, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SVG from LaTeX in Ubuntu?[edit]

Tiger66 -- The worst of all is something which is pretending to be in one format, but not actually really in that format (e.g. a PNG pretending to be an SVG). You're right that JPEG isn't preferred for this type of graphic, but an honest JPEG would still be better than a phoney SVG... AnonMoos (talk) 03:34, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PDF created from LaTex
Dear AnonMoos and Tiger66,
I updated the pdf source from which I created the png files. Let me link it...
My Linux machine is running, but I haven't had (and don't expect to have) an afternoon to play with command lines to convert LaTeX files to SVG. (I've gotten lazy in Windows 7. Perhaps I can separate each graphic as a separate file in LaTeX, and export each to SVG (without pdf)....
Thanks again for your helpful suggestions. Best regards,  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 17:36, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GNU Lilypond and SVG[edit]

I've began creating SVG files from GNU Lilypond (using the Frescobaldi editor). I need to learn how to crop svg files.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 21:05, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

guitar chords[edit]

Hi, I saw yr message and I thought that "regular tunings" was referred to standard tunings, so I maybe categorized some chords wrong. But I can't remember which ones so that I can change the category! Thanks a lot for your observation. --Elenaf (talk) 09:10, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in my reply.
I'm happy to remove the "regular" category for you. I added an explanation about the category's scope, which should clarify things, I hope!

English Wikipedia[edit]

well, they have removed my user page, but somehow did not ban me. perhaps Commons is not as broken as I thought. anyhoo, i see that Risker is suggesting that you mail evidence to arbcom. my experience with arbcom is that they are useless, or worse than useless, because they led me to believe they were deliberating my case, so for eight months there was no reply. a reply only came when i wrote to them, and i was told that basically they hoped i would go away.

the reason for this message is to point out that Risker's request is like the court asking the defendant to send his alibi to the prosecutor instead of telling it to the jury. im not very good with analogies, but that one seemed appropriate. good luck with your case. ironholds will win, because thats the way its rigged. if they dont let you post your evidence, suggest that the case be dropped or similar, because they will not let you post the evidence that would show who should win. good luck, Kiefer. Zerofox (talk) 03:20, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

PS: another reason im posting this here is because "Editing from 184.8.96.0/19 has been blocked (disabled) by Legoktm for the following reason(s):", which means they either think that i am a menace, or theyre so desperate to bury the truth that they would willingly block 8,190 IPs from contributing, simply to hide the ugly, ugly facts. so much for openness and transparency, i guess. anyways as i said, good luck. many people are rooting for you. Zerofox (talk) 03:36, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your message of support. I'm sorry that I did not see it before now.
I'd like to think that many Arbs recognize the gravity of the principal problems and the political problems posed by the behavior and by their handling of the case.

New improved, New standard tuning[edit]

New Standard Tuning - C major scale harmonized in sevenths and triads, arpeggios. This PNG file looks better than the PDF file.

My chord booklet was recreated with Guitar Pro rather than Gnu Lilypond. Associated .Wav, .png, and .midi (or was it .mid) files have been uploaded.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 18:26, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Expanded pdf file, which loads poorly on a poor internet connection. Maybe the png is better for the English WP article?

I created a set of audio & image files showing chord progressions of closed-voicing chords for NST in the key of C major. The png or pdf file and the wave file could be added to the English WP article.

Also, the old set of audio & image files for NST has been thoroughly revised.

Images for all perfect-fourths tuning[edit]

@Dr. Blofeld: , @Hyacinth: One of these images could be used in All fourths tuning:
