Category:Ghanaian sculpture

Hallo Katharinaiv, you have created Category:Ghanaian sculpture. Thanks for helping here at Commons!

A question: should that be for sculptures which are in Ghana? Then it probably should be named like the others in Category:Sculptures by country: Category:Sculptures in Ghana. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:35, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

okay, a motion is proposed at User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. I find it so better too. But then we would need still a Categorgy:Art of Ghana as parallel category. But no problem... I will tidy a little bit there in the next days. --Katharinaiv (talk) 12:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. As soon as the bot wakes up it processes (User:CommonsDelinker/commands). Category:Art of Ghana is existent (you did write the "Category" worng). Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 13:39, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- Common Good (talk) 19:27, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Africa through a lens

Hi there, I'm Elitre and I'm writing case studies for the SYK initiative, like this one. Before translating it I would love to mention you and other people cropping and improving TNA files of this collection. Would you please send me a list of the people involved, the reason why you're working on it, and other details that you think may help? An e-mail would just be fine. Thank you, have a nice day, --Elitre (talk) 09:55, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

I will send to you an answer on the talk site of your account. --Katharinaiv (talk) 09:57, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Italian stamps

I try to keep track of, and review, all philatelic related uploads on pages such as this October and November image galleries and I think we have a big problem with many of your recent Italian stamp images. The attached tag {{PD-Italy}} can't apply to them as they are not simple photographs as such, they are designs and in that tag it clearly states: Photographs that are "intellectual work with creative characteristics" are protected for 70 years after the author's death, so I cannot see how stamps designed by artists who are not yet dead 70 years can be freely licensed. It is great that you have dates for many of the artists so we can determine which ones may actually be free of copyright. However, the URAA-restored copyrights may also apply to some earlier stamps. Besides that Commons:Stamps/Public domain#Italy says that 70 years pma applies to Italian stamps which Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Italy also states. This may require further clarification but until then I suggest you stop uploading any stamps post circa 1940 and certainly not with the {{PD-Italy}} copyright tag. I'll get back to you. Ww2censor (talk) 11:49, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: I can confirm that Italian law considers the 70 years PMA for the stamps. PD-Italy doesn't apply here. In case a stamp is a derivative work (reproducing a painting, a comic, etc.), the copyright holder is the original author (6.11.2013–12.11.2013 n. 22673/13, Tribunale di Roma). --Ruthven (msg) 11:05, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
I'm sorry to have to nominate several of your Italian stamp uploads for deletion after all the hard work you have done but as you know we take copyright status very seriously, but the good news is that the deleted stamps will be restored at the appropriate dates. Based on reviewing the Italian copyright and Ruthvens input, I have now revised the Italian entry at Commons:Stamps/Public domain#Italy with more detail. On that basis I will firstly nominate for deletion those stamps included in Category:Stamps of Italy by designer whose designers are not dead more than 70 years and then remove the {{PD-Italy}} template from any remaining stamps. Do you have a good source for the Italian stamp designers? It would be great to include more designers in the name listing. It's a pity you did not know more about the copyright status of Italian stamps before you started but now you know so I hope you will not be discouraged and will hopefully continue to upload more images that are within copyright. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 13:13, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Foto Wiki Loves Earth 2018

--GPSLeo (talk) 10:39, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

--Katharinaiv (talk) 12:28, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Stamps of Liechtenstein

Did you see this recent post? And also this discussion. Can you counter that argument with a verifiable source? Ww2censor (talk) 23:28, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Italian stamps again

I see you are uploading several Italian stamps but I think you are not noting the authors and their death dates. File:ITA-TR 1947 MiNr0003 mt B002a.jpg was designed or engraved by it:Melkiorre Melis who died in 1982, so his work is copyright until 2053. In this instance the underlying stamp is still in copyright even though the overprint may have been done by someone else. It may well also be difficult to read the attribution on Italian stamps. There is an incomplete list here. I think you need to determine the designers and engravers before uploading as I sure you don't want to waste time as happened some time ago with previous stamp images. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 10:03, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Ww2censor, for Italy was changed the license according to the copyright law actual valid there, so that the copyright is only still valid for 20 years. However, I have to admit that next week will come a new copyright ordinance by the EU for copyrights in internet. Already now it's giving protest actions in many countries against that. Also the license for Liechtenstein was changed. By the way, the mentioned stamp has the overprint "AMG-FTT", so it's allied military government after the WWII, so are valid the British and US-license here too (beside of Italy as contemporary area state). Beside of that, this state existed only until to 1954 and is not in the copyright-limitations of 2019. Please, consider that EU-right is going over National-right, at least in EU-states. --Katharinaiv (talk) 10:22, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
Previously Ruthven told you that 70 years pma apples to Italian stamps because the artist is the copyright holder not the government. Please show evidence that only 20 years applies to these stamps and that the Italian Gov template is valid. Next week we shall se what happens re EU copyright effects on us. Ww2censor (talk) 13:01, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
Katharinaiv, I'm afraid that you completely misinterpreted the PD-Italy license tag. It applies only to no-creative photographs and still images from films. If @Ww2censor: agrees, we'll speedy delete these uploads (and undelete them in due time). Ruthven (msg) 14:22, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
I'm fine with the solution Ruthven suggests but am not happy that again your effort and work has been wasted. Before you do that let's make sure to update the Italian stamp designers listing with their details, and death dates if appropriate, for people not already listed here Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Italy#Stamp. Ww2censor (talk) 15:32, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
@Ww2censor: Ok, ping me when done. Thanks --Ruthven (msg) 17:05, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

Ok, Katharinaiv and Ruthven. I've looked at all the entires in Category:Stamps of Italy by designer and based on that review have been only been able to add 2 names to the listing at Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Italy#Stamps; 1 is PD and 1 is copyright. So based on that I'm sorry to say the stamps of 16 designers are definitely still in copyright - two have unknown death dates, so COM:PCP should apply. Katharinaiv, I don't want to beat you up but in December 2017 I pointed you to the list of Italian stamp designers (previous discussion above) so you could see whose work was ok or not. If you have Italian stamp designers or engravers name and life date that are not in the listing please add them of drop me a post and I'll add them. The following 16 do not comply with the 70 year pma rule:

The following two have no death dates but could well have been alive within the last 70 years. Perhaps you have some more info on them but despite looking I cannot find anything conclusive.

Ww2censor (talk) 22:48, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: That's what I've found:
  • Liana Ferri was working in 1932 and still active in 1951, when she published "Avventure sul fiume".
  • Dino Tofani (b. 1895), was active in the 20s and 30s.
I think that for both we should apply COM:PCP, unless the files are in the public domain for other reasons. Ruthven (msg) 09:25, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
@Ruthven: : That is basically the same as is already stated at Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Italy#Stamps. If you have a source for the Liana Ferri 1950 date perhaps you can add it there. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 09:56, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
